Tomorrow is the first day in a while that I don't have to be awake by a specific time, and I am Looking Forward to sleeping as much as the cats will let me

If I had a nickel for every time I've watched a youtuber with a channel name and aesthetic that implied they were part of a subculture I vibe with only to later find a Q&A video they've done about how they didn't know about that subculture when they picked their name and it was pure coincidence, I'd have two nickels and that's too many nickels

Re: Promiseland
Sometime between midnight and seven o'clock this morning, someone cut down a bunch of plants in our yard, so that was neat to wake up to
Backstory: the fence between our and our neighbours' yard has been in progress in getting fixed for almost a year. The most recent hitch in it is a tree near the fence that the repairpeople insisted needed to be trimmed or removed before repairs could be completed, so that specific section of fence has a gap in it. Landlords being landlords, there's been people out to assess the tree, but no actual forward motion on trimming or removal. Until now, apparently!
Anyway, it looks like the cutting happened from the neighbours' side, through that gap, and they cut much more than seems to be necessary. Given that and that it was done in the middle of the night, we have strong suspicions the neighbours got angry about the delays and did it themselves
Very sad about the dead plants, most of those we had worked very hard on

Time for my very dumb tradition of watching the Nightmare Before Christmas every day between October 31st and December 25th

Sacramento city leaders are looking at raising taxes on businesses. The city council says it's necessary to help fund more police officers, but with rising prices and inflation, business owners fear it will take a bite out of their bottom lines.

At 3:10 this afternoon, I decided to make a custard. At 7:45 this evening, I pulled the custard out of the oven, and it could have stood to stay in there for a bit longer. Baffling. No idea what it was doing in there, because it sure as heck wasn't cooking, apparently
It did turn out well, though, and later I'll have myself a little custard treat.
Today ash and I walked down to the store to pick up some groceries, which was nice. It rained a little, and is supposed to rain some more tomorrow, which is also nice. This week has been very strange, at once too long and too short, at once too much and not enough in it. I'm glad to move forward into a week with less of that, hopefully.
