So at 3:50 this morning, as I was getting into bed, I got a message from ash that there was something wrong with one of his cats and he was taking her to the emergency vet as soon as he could get her into a carrier, and subsequently I spent about half an hour helping find and capture the cat, and then about an hour waiting for news before going to sleep. The cat is fine! Ate something that irritated her mouth, or something, probably, and ash spent the evening keeping an eye on her to make sure she was eating and drinking fine, so everything seems to be okay now. But that's the start of the 'rough day'

The rough day continued as I tried to get that computer backup to cooperate with the external drive I ordered, which arrived yesterday. It has been refusing to, so right now I'm copying everything on one of the internal drives to the external and then I'll try getting the backup stuff onto that internal drive, but I'm getting more and more pessimistic about the whole endeavour. What a shitty product, do not use carbonite for your backups. I've been cold on them since the computer I'd been backing files up for broke and I discovered that I had lost a bunch of important shit anyway because carbonite hadn't deemed them important enough to back up, and all of this is icing on that

Meanwhile yesterday the cats woke me up before 6 and I didn't get back to sleep until about 11, and also had to be ready for a breathing space recording that evening, so I'm running a bit low on resources now. Gonna try to hit the hay a bit early so I can recoup. Day after tomorrow is another breathing space recording, so I should get ready for that, and there's an arcadia recording I need to do for an episode releasing next week, but aside from those I don't have anything that is in particular need of my attention and can just focus on regaining spoons

Today I woke up feeling like my head had been boiled, and then spent the day feeling generally pretty bad -- chills, aches, mild nausea, etc. Tomorrow's recording has consequentially been rescheduled and I have done not a whole lot. I do am still working on getting files from one drive onto another to make room for the backup files, and right now I'm seeing about getting ESO working on the steam deck, though I'm not sure I'll enjoy playing it with a controller. Semi-relatedly, I'm thinking after I get this backup problem sorted, I'll see about backing up everything on the desktop and then upgrading to a more recent windows

In less great news, Oz got into some food with garlic and scallions in it, so I'm keeping an eye on her. She will hopefully be okay, but I'm worried because she spends so much time sleeping and lazing these days that I'm not positive I'd be able to recognise if she were actually lethargic

Also Cael's fecal sample came back positive for a parasite, so this weekend we're picking up medication for that. Luckily most cats can fight it off without help, so we're not having to quarantine him or get the other cats checked or anything, though ash does plan on doing a full clean of his cats' water and food dishes and litterboxes, and I'm of course keeping an eye on my cats for signs of anything hinky. We are luckily already semi-isolating them all from each other, anyway, so.

It's close to bedtime, so I'm gonna hang out for a bit, and then continue hanging out after I get everything ready for sleep.

I did manage to get ESO working on the steamdeck! Unfortunately at some point they did the thing again where they make me rebuy all my skills and re-set all my bindings, which is A Lot to ask of a person trying to set up a level 36 character after not playing for three years. Fortunately, I'm pretty sure the last time this happened I took a screenshot of my skills, so I just need to figure out where I put those, if so, and also figure out if I changed anything after doing that, you know, because I would have levelled my character up a few times since then

I also need to figure out if I want to mess with mods at all for this

Welp, if I did save that somewhere, it's been lost -- ironically probably deleted in my attempts to get the backup files to download (this is probably not ironic). But I'd been saving screenshots in a steam folder for a while and then I uninstalled steam, so. Dumb move, but what can you do. At the very least, I can't find any ESO screenshots in dropbox, or the Pictures or Documents folder on that computer.

So I made room on the D drive, I got the program to agree to upload files to the D drive, I leave it running for a few hours and what do I find when I check on it? It's putting files on the fucking C drive!!!

Some good news today though! Since enforcing that Cael is only eating his own food (well, mostly.), he's only pooping two or three times a day, so that's good. His stools are still too soft and stink to high heaven, but they're a little less stinky and hopefully the medication will take care of things the rest of the way

Oz has been doing fine, no signs of being poisoned (touch wood)

I did get ESO running and got mods working with it, so I've been picking out others to throw on the game. It is less annoying to play with a controller than I'd thought, and it is able to swap seamlessly between controller UI and keyboard UI, so for the few times I do really want to be using that I can just open up a menu with the keyboard and it's fine. But they did a good job making it controller-compatible

I do wish I had people to play it with, but it is not a very popular MMORPG for reasons that aren't super clear to me (I gather it's just not very good for people who like MMORPGs, but it's good for me, a person who doesn't play very many of those). It also doesn't do crossplay and it takes up a truly unconscionable amount of space during installation, so I also wouldn't expect to be able to convince anyone to try it, even though it's free

Tomorrow, ash and I are going to go pick up Cael's medication and get boba while we're on that side of town, so I need to be awake at a time to be able to do that. I also want to take a shower, and I also need to do some arcadia recordings. I think my weekend is otherwise free

So I once again forgot data caps are a thing and my attempts to download 600 GB of data and also continuing to use the internet as normal (and, additionally, two other people using the internet as normal, of course) has put us near that cap. Dunno if we'll pass it -- at the rate the download is going it won't be solely responsible for doing so, but again, people using the internet as normal. However, looking into that did also make it clear that the download is Not going to finish before the 'renew your subscription or we will permanently delete all of your backed up data' deadline, and at this point it's too late for me to attempt anything else to fix the problem, so I have renewed for another year. With a one-time-use card provided by Erik, so they can't try to keep billing me after I cancel it when all this is done.

Also I paused the download to do some needed Arcadia recording a couple days ago and now the program doing the downloading has glitched and no longer has a pause option, so there's no more pausing or stopping until it's done. ALSO the site has started severely under-reporting how many files I have stored there, which made me panic that it was also deleting files as it was downloading them (which would be bad since it has repeatedly tried to download things to the wrong drive, necessitating deleting those from said drive), but looking at the actual files they all seem to still be there? Extremely bad program, extremely bad service, zero stars.

Anyway, so that's a hundred dollars I'm out after all.

Cael's medication is another one I need to wake up at 7 AM every day to administer (with ash's help), so things are going to be rough again for a while. Especially with so many recordings happening in the near future, it's going to be hard to find enough sleep around all these obligations.

Speaking of recordings, last night I checked the schedule to see when the next one was and saw it was "tomorrow", so I put in effort to make sure I would get enough sleep but also be awake early enough before it to be able to Act, but it turns out that I had checked the schedule after midnight, so it wasn't "tomorrow", it's tomorrow. So I'll have to do that again tonight, and I could have tried to sleep longer today. Sigh.

I had wanted to visit dad next week and bring some thanksgiving leftovers over for him and Gayle, but I won't have time or energy to get across town to do that, so. Instead I called him yesterday and caught up -- he is working on getting his license again but is running into some issues centered mostly on the fact the car he has access to isn't registered, and was last registered years ago in a different state, and since Gay has dementia he doesn't have all the information or papers to be able to get that sorted. He also took his guitar in for a repair and while there found a Gibson replica that he couldn't get out of his head, so ended up going back and buying. So that's neat

Haven't been up to much! I've been reading Carry On, which is... interesting. I'll probably talk about it later. And I've been playing ESO, obviously. It's been cold, so I've been under blankets a lot. I've put work toward acclimating (and will continue to), and it's helped, but unfortunately that doesn't do shit to help with joint pains.

Today is a no-thoughts-head-empty day, so I'm going to go have no thoughts while playing video games and listening to youtube.
