Messing around with the settings in a new game and I discovered that the language setting for 'Japanese' is labelled "日本の" (nihon no)... which does mean "Japanese", but as an adjective. Like, as in, "A japanese building". Japanese as in the language is 日本語 (nihon go)

Kind of get the impression they just google translated everything

ESO mods!

First, the place to get mods these days: https://esoui.com/community.php
Second, the mod manager I like: https://minion.mmoui.com/

Mods I have installed and what I use them for (many have other functionalities that I don't use):

Action Duration Reminder

  • I think I got this one to see if it would also keep my boons visible but I've kept it because it actually is pretty handy to see how many seconds a given effect has left (like my invisibility ability, I can time how often I should reapply it while sneaking through a dungeon)

Auto Recharge (and repair)

  • Keeps weapons charged (and repaired)

Azurah - Interface Enhanced

  • Customise where UI elements are! Very handy, but overwhelming if you do it before you've got a good grasp of what all the UI entails. Also it's not at all clear how you're supposed to make it work with the controller UI, so I'll explain the process which I took like an hour to figure out on my own -- you have to set gamepad mode to 'on' and not 'automatic' first, and then you can use the mouse to move things around in gamepad mode and not have it switch back to keyboard/mouse mode while you're trying. But yeah, very robust mod but consequently overwhelming

Clock - Tamriel Standard Time

  • Puts a customisable widget on screen that shows you some combination of the moon phases, the date and time in-game, and the date and time in real life. I just think it's neat

  • It is handy when you're running around at night and can't see shit, to know about how long it'll take before the sun rises

Harven's Research Timers

  • Lets you know when your research is done and when you can train your mount!

HarvestMap

  • This marks nodes you find on your map, so you can go back to them when you need something!

LootDrop Reborn

  • In gamepad mode, the loot information appears in a section of the screen that is taken up by something else, and you can't change that. So this mod lets me choose where that information appears (instead of behind, I think the chat window?)

Lost Treasure

  • Makes it easier to do the treasure map stuff

NoAccidentalStealing (+no accidental casting)

  • Prevents you from accidentally stealing, like happens in Bethesda games

PersonalAssistant (Banking, Consume, Junk, Loot, ...

  • This has a bunch of perks but I mostly use it to automatically deposit money and materials into my bank whenever I go into it. I should go through the options again and see if there's anything that would be useful now that I've played a bit more and gotten into my groove

Potion Maker (for Alchemy Crafting)

  • Lets me search potion recipes for unlearned reactions or specific qualities. The only downside is it doesn't work with the controller, so I have to enter the alchemy table via keyboard

SkyShards

  • Puts skyshards on the map

Slightly Improved™ Experience Bar

  • Always show experience bar and put the XP/needed numbers on it

Votan's Fisherman

  • This has a few handy features but mostly it puts a big, obvious indicator on the screen when it's time to reel in

Votan's Improved Locations

  • Makes it easier to find what I'm looking for on the map, but only works with the keyboard/mouse UI

Votan's Improved Quests

  • Makes it easier to find what I'm looking for on the map, but for quests specifically, still only works with keyboard/mouse UI

Dolgubon's Lazy Writ Creator

  • Actually haven't had this turned on because it wasn't functioning right, but have turned it on again to see if I can make it work. If it does, it'll take care of writ crafting for you, which is handy.

WritWorthy

  • Haven't installed this yet but it'll handle some master writ stuff that apparently Lazy Writ Creator isn't good at

Going through all of that was very useful for picking out mods that I haven't actually been using and disabling them

There's also a lot of addons out there for like, keeping track of your damage and stuff like that that I can't be bothered with

FF14 has these too and I purposefully do not use them; you can get a vague no-numbers idea of how your damage is compared to others based off your order in aggro, which is all the input I want to know if I'm low/middling/high. I don't wanna stress about Make Number Go Up like I used to in D2 raids or way back in my WoW days, and to be honest in a game like ESO I just don't care that much.

Also, thank you for this! I would say, in retrospect after you asked, a criticism I do have of ESO is its UI is a bit clunky and doesn't give me all the information I need. Some of that may be that I'm using a controller, though, which is only like ... 90% supported by the game. In the end I'd rather that than have a super cluttered, overwhelming interface (which FF14 feels like on PC, imho, when I first started playing and before I switched to controller I was like holy mother of god the toolbars), but it does mean I have no earthly idea when my research projects are done, when my food buffs have worn off, etc. I'll definitely grab a few things off your list and give them a spin today!

You're welcome! And yeah, now that you mention it I remember when it came out there was a lot of discourse over whether the very minimalist UI was a good or bad thing, and, obviously, several addons designed to beef it up

Today I woke up at 6 AM because I needed to pee

Then I woke up at 8 because Cael was chasing Oz and they both ran me over

Then I woke up at 10 because Oz peed on my pillow (luckily not the one I was actively sleeping on)

Not how I prefer to start the day, to be honest

Though at 11:30 I woke up to Erika attempting to gift me an ESO expansion! Steam is thwarting those attempts but we're gonna make it work
