Woke up at, uh, I think it was about 9 o'clock, after not enough sleep, but instead of going right back to sleep I did some internet for a bit, and then I tried texting Tal again because they haven't responded in a few months. They did respond today! And we caught up a little -- they have gotten married which is great but they did it in anticipation of a possible Trump presidency, which is less great. Still, happy for them.

Went back to sleep and kind of came in and out of consciousness for a few hours. I had an alarm set for 3 and I let that snooze a couple times but did finally get up and be awake. Mostly there was more internet here, but I also took the vocabulary quiz (24/25, I think because I said a word was 'cow milk' instead of just 'milk' so probably I'll get bumped up to 25 after she hand grades it). Once ash was up for social we watched a few Steven Universes (we are at the human zoo arc) and then played some more Ghost Master -- we just beat the police station level after much futzing. After we were done we had enough points to unlock a power that will make one of the previous levels easier to beat, so we can try to get the remaining ghosts out of it. (What an odd game this must sound like)

I've done my homework and eaten dinner and now I'm going to watch youtube until sleep.

Cael was such an asshole all morning that I locked him out of my room entirely so Oz and I could get some more sleep. I think I mentioned that he's on a little bit of a diet, and that's definitely affecting his mood. I think the cold is also getting to him.

Might bump his allowance back up a little bit and then lower it again more slowly.

ash got me another phone appointment this afternoon, hopefully they actually call this time, and before class. I'm braindead right now but I'll eat something and get some caffeine and hopefully I wake up more.

So a grammatical feature of Teket is that verbs will agree with the noun class of objects if there is one in the sentence, and the subject if there isn't an object. I've decided that it would be both simpler to explain and more interesting if verbs had a strict intransitive/transitive distinction, and that intransitive verbs always agree with the subject, and transitive verbs always agree with the object, which can be dropped and left implied. (Technically subjects can also be dropped and left implied but that predates this decision)

So I'll be going through my verbs and deciding which are transitive and which are intransitive

I've also been continuing through the grambank survey and I haven't gotten any further in it but I have added some example sentences to what I already had filled out

I just watched about five hours of conlanging videos (the 2024 Youtuber Conlang Relay playlist and postmortem), so does youtube recommend conlanging (or even linguistics or other language-adjacent) videos?

No, of course not. For some reason I'm getting a shitload of Markiplier, whom I haven't watched in yonks

You would think it would recommend me videos by the people in the playlist! Since I watched their video and might be interested in more of what they make! But no, not a single one of them. Instead, youtube has recommended me that playlist again.

And a shitload of markiplier.

As an example, káre, "to work, toil", would be a transitive verb that agrees with the direct object. "He's working on his book" would agree with "book" and not "he".

You can say "He's working", but now "working" will still agree with the unstated "book". You have to imply what sort of thing he's working on.

Karésal eté cat animasá iiláu.
work.HLY 3SG.HUN for AL.POS.dictionary
'He's working on his dictionary.'

Karésal eté.
work.HLY 3SG.HUN
'He's working.'

(Whereas previously this would have been Karét eté, work.HUN 3SG.HUN)

(Dictionaries are collections of words, words are in the domain of the Wind God, therefore dictionaries are holy)

So professor yelled at Disruptive Student today. Not like a full on yelling but she started the day off completely done with him, and he spent the entire class up to his usual bullshit, and at the end he did extremely poorly on, basically reading a passage straight out of the book and when the professor started getting frustrated with him he says 'I was trying to figure out how to say-' and she went 'You don't have to figure anything out!! The writing is right there!!'

This was a thing he was supposed to have prepared to do in a breakout room with his partner, so like, even if he wasn't just reading straight out of the book there's no reason why he should be figuring out what to say during the performance.

Speaking of partners, someone brought up the skits we're supposed to do for our final, which prompted a bunch of people to be like 'Hey I don't have a partner for that yet', and long story short there is that I have a partner for it now. So that's one less thing to worry about.

Just have to write and practice and then perform the script.

In other news the appointment did happen, and of course part of it happened during class, but it didn't actually interrupt anything. They do want new labs, so I have an appointment to give them my blood next Wednesday, and this weekend ash is going to give me a ride to a shoe store so I don't have to do it in sandals.

I have three pages of homework to do, two of which are asking about the audio files, and also the kanji quiz. So I'll get those done tomorrow. Oh, also my vocabulary quiz did get re-graded and I did get full marks on it.

Tonight! Uh. More video games, probably. Maybe some conlanging. Definitely some youtube.
