Re: Promiseland
Haven't been doing much since new years! My sleep schedule is Completely fucked but I'm working on it. Haven't been working on much else
It's a pain day, lotta joints are giving me the business
ash and I have been rewatching Steven Universe and yesterday we got to the series finale and today we watched the post-series pre-epilogue movie! They both hold up pretty well! I am still extremely weirded out by the ending of the movie, which (spoilers) can be summed up as |'Steven volunteers a person with severe BPD who is just coming out of abandonment trauma to live with three people with NPD who are in positions of extreme authority and who will definitely and unquestionably push the person with BPD to regress back into the doormat of a person she was 6000 years ago', and it's so explicitly that that it's really hard to imagine that they (the writers) didn't do it on purpose but also it's so awful that it's hard to imagine they would do that on purpose with zero follow-up|. I love the portrayal of traumagenic mental illness both in the movie and in the series in general, but that "solution" is just. Bad. It's bad!
I also have come to the conclusion that while the soundtrack to the movie is fantastic and I love all the songs (especially Other Friends and Drift Away and especially especially Disobedient. And system/BOOT. PearlFinal (3).Info!!) it doesn't quite, mesh. There's a thing, sort of a rule about how the music in musicals is supposed to work, that goes something like 'when the emotions are too much for talking, you sing (and when they're too much for singing, you dance)', and it doesn't feel like the movie "earns" the songs in that way. People just, start singing, a la the common critique people who don't like musicals have for musicals. They feel disconnected from the story, and like they're just there to fill a quota for how much singing needed to be in the movie.
All that said, good movie! We are going to rewatch Steven Universe Future, which I believe is only a season long? So should be pretty quick to get through. But before that we're going to rewatch the first season of Severance, and we'll finish that up just in time to start season 2 as it airs.

Re: Promiseland
So something I've been struggling with for, uh, ever, is getting trash out of my room and into the collection can on the other side of the house. Especially litter trash gets very heavy, and carrying the bag all the way out there is difficult, what with the disability. So I thought, I should get a trash can for my bathroom with wheels and a handle that I can just push out to the collection bin. Basically what I'm after is a regular outdoor trashcan but sized down so it'll fit in my bathroom. Like a kitchen-trash sized collection bin
Well! Unfortunately they don't seem to make this. Not for americans, at least -- I found basically exactly what I'm looking for from Japanese sellers, but obviously the shipping on that is going to be ridiculous. And like, it's so bizarre that this isn't a thing here? It's not like I'm the only person who has trouble carrying bags big ol' bags of garbage outside! Surely it is an obvious idea to put the garbage in something you can just push outside before you pull it out of that container and put it into the collection bin! But no, this is not really an option. You can buy wheels to put on the bottom of a trash bin, marketed toward people in custodial employment fields, but those are weirdly expensive, which brings me to my next point
Trash cans are so expensive??? Why????
Anyway. Current plan is to get a cheapish can and just put it on my skateboard to push it out to the big bin. And then when I am flush with cash I'll get the wheels for it. But I'm annoyed that this really obvious accessibility issue is an issue

(It's a thing in Japan because they prioritise saving space in a way we don't over here, so it's just that their street cans come in sizes small enough to easily fit in my bathroom. Possibly other countries also have things like this, I didn't look super hard and only found the Japanese ones because amazon decided I might like to pay $160 on shipping)

Re: Promiseland
((Their street cans can come in weird sizes because they still have human people picking trash up and putting it in the garbage trucks instead of A Big Claw that requires cans be standardized. I think a lot of people just put trash out in bags, even, with no can, and I also believe cans aren't provided for you and you have to buy your own))

Re: Promiseland
So Elden Ring was in the steam winter sale so I grabbed that, and now after painstakingly copying all of the character creation sliders &c from the PS4 over into the steam copy I have started playing! This of course means I'm starting over from the beginning but I think it's been long enough that hopefully that won't super bother me? Get ready for me to rage about those dog statue bosses again
Grabbed the usual group passwords off an old article and immediately got a boost from someone in the vaatividya group killing a boss, so glad to see people are still keeping that going
Oh hey I see Dave has a steam copy, maybe we can run around a bit in it some time. Unfortunately it doesn't have PC/Xbox crossplay which is extremely bullshit, xboxes are basically windows PCs already. Not having crossplay across the board is also bullshit but not having PC/xbox crossplay is especially bullshit.
Today I tried to let myself just sleep forever but unfortunately the Cael lunch alarm woke me up, which I knew was a risk. Considered going back to sleep but I was hungry enough to stay up for dinner and now I'm just up. Once again I will attempt a normal bedtime and get things back on track
I have jumped back in to Japanese study, specifically doing bunpro and jpdb study. At some point I want to give running through Undertale in Japanese another try, and also I am aiming toward a few anime/manga to watch/read, but those will have to wait until I have enough focus to be doing Just One Thing and also for my vocabulary to get more robust. Working on it!
Pain continues. I have especially been having some very bad pain in my right wrist, which I'm trying to be gentle with but there's only so much you can do. I hurt it somehow during the bike ride (/carrying the bike) to dad's, and I'd like it to be better now.
Currently doing laundry, probably going to get through about half what I need to do and then do the rest tomorrow. And during that, youtube and video games.

"oh no bunpro just announced a complete revamp of their example sentence audio, don't tell me they used "AI" for it--"
Professionally voice acted by anime voice actors
"Oh! Well that's much better than expected!"

Re: Promiseland
Capital-N Need to go grocery shopping but I don't want to ride my bike until my wrist feels better since it's not unlikely that it's the bike that injured it to begin with. Making it worse doesn't feel like the most sound idea.
The good news is that I was pretty sure the pain was because something in it was dislocated but I wasn't able to re-locate whatever it was until last night (I think). It still hurts, because being dislocated for almost two weeks will do some damage, but I think it's better? And if that is the case then now it can finally start actually healing.
Last load of laundry for the day is in the washer, and hopefully Oz doesn't immediately pee on my bed again. Since I'm injured and sleep deprived, I'm going to take today pretty easy and hope tomorrow is better for getting things done.

It's very nice out today! Unseasonably warm, honestly. And I did take a walk around the pool, which wiped my legs out and confirms it wasn't a good idea to hie myself to the store. Sitting until laundry is done (in the dryer, now) and then more sitting.
Maybe I instacart some groceries again

Re: Promiseland
Remembered that it was Tuesday and Farm Night With Dave, and then forgot until he messaged me at like ten thirty (having also remembered and then forgot). A bit wiped out tonight so instead of Farm we're both playing our own games and hanging out in voice chat, he Palworld and me Elden Ring
I'm having fun starting over honestly! It's neat coming up on stuff I really struggled with because I wasn't familiar with the gameplay yet and just blazing through it all. Fought Margit once and lost, I'm levelling before I try again. I did run off to the second-best grinding location (south of plagueville) pretty much straight off so I can also passively gather runes when I want
ash and I watched the first episode of Severance tonight and that too was really fun to start over! It's really neat to watch it from the beginning knowing the twist that will be coming at the end. Also it's just Such a good show, So well made and a concept that's right up both of our alleys.
Bunpro added the ability to make custom decks, I don't know if I mentioned, and I messed with that a little earlier. I Do like it a lot more than anki but I don't think I'll actually use them yet. I think I'm good with my current system and courseload for now.
Okay I need to eat more dinner and continue hanging out with Dave, ta
