Ended up Satisfactory with Dave 'til pretty late again! Got a lot done though despite some extremely frustrating limitations of the game (turns out blueprints suck!) -- got the south leg of the Skybridge done (it is two levels, an upper walkway for foot traffic and what will be an escalator/travelator on the lower level), a chunk of the north leg (it currently descends directly into the ocean, so I'm gonna need to adapt plans to that), and a new train. Dave got the final mission of the game done, made some portals, and a few more power plants (including plutonium).

Hmmm, maybe I make a third level of the skybridge for trains... but at that point, what's the point of taking the bridge itself? Would be kind of neat, though. I will think.

Cael is getting his nightly post-game wander in, when he comes back I'll close up for the night and go to bed. Meanstwhile I'll watch some videos, maybe pop into Gone Fishing for a bit.

I don't think I've mentioned Gone Fishing at all here -- it is a spooky co-op fishing game along the lines of Lethal Company, Repo, etc, where you have to sacrifice enough fish every day to meet a quota so you don't get et by a monster. You may get et by a monster anyway! It is very fun, even singleplayer, and the dev has been super active in developing it. There are less-stressful difficulty levels so I've been enjoying just hanging out and getting fishing done.

It does apparently have some LLM-generated content as placeholder achievement images, but the dev has said he plans on replacing them ASAP and has agreed that he shouldn't have included them to begin with, so I'm optimistic that it won't include any LLM content in the future. I will in fact be very sad if he turns around on that. But yeah I gather it's just a guy and his brother working on it or something

I asked the Gone Fishing dev if there were any monsters that you needed to be able to hear to avoid/survive and he confirmed that there aren't (though being able to hear does help) because his brother is deaf in one ear so they develop with that in mind, which is very refreshing to hear for an indie horror game!

Ordered some groceries today to stock back up on lunches/easy meals, which put me a little over budget but I think I still did pretty good this month. I honestly could have stayed under but instacart was offering $10 off my next order if I spent a certain amount, and maybe I shouldn't have gone for it but it was only a little more than I was intending to spend anyway, so. Now I can get groceries for cheaper when I run out of stuff again, or maybe it won't work and I'll have done that for nothing, who knows.

Instacart's website was a god damn mess today, everything took minutes to load, if it loaded at all, and then the live update stuff wasn't working (so like, after my shopper was already finished and heading out to deliver my stuff the site was still telling me I could add more to my cart)

I got milk, taquitos, soup, pringles, and some nectarines, and for lunch I made myself the taquitos and cut up a nectarine.

While waiting for the groceries to be delivered I hung up the rest of the pictures I've taken lately:

I think it's looking good! It'll start getting full soon, though, and I figure as I take pictures down to put new ones up, that's when I'll see about getting them scanned. I'll need something to store them in long-term, too, like maybe some kind of album for photographs or something. I dunno if they make those.

I played a bit of video games for a while but then I reviewed chapter 1 of my Japanese textbook and did some exercises. There are 12 chapters, so if I do a chapter a day I'll be well prepared for class next month. Hopefully I can trigger some hyperfocus on it so I can really dig in to it, though as always I want to avoid burning myself out before class even starts.

I'm going to watch a youtube or two and then get back to it.

Chapter 2 reviewed; obviously I'm reading the textbook, but someone has made a website you can use to do all the practice sections in the textbook and workbook and I've been using that, too. It's very well made (though I did run into one Super Annoying bug that I have submitted a bug report on), very grateful to the guy who put it together and keeps it running.

The textbook is not really intended to be completed at a chapter a day, so the workload on that is kind of hefty and I may need to slow it down when I start hitting the actually complicated stuff, but for now it's working.

Also got some anki decks that kind of sort of mostly follow the textbook, so I've got three chapters (there's a chapter 0 I didn't specifically review but may as well put into the rotation, it's hiragana/katakana practice) going of that. I've also fired up Hiragana Forbidden Speech again and have been playing a bit of it, and fired up my kanji app.

Today was that and some youtube, and a shower. I'm about to pill the cat and go to bed, hopefully I will be asleep by 3 today.

It's actually neat how much I remember after not studying for so long, and in fact how much better I am at some elements than I was when I was actively working on it (numbers have always been an enormous pain in the ass but they've like, settled in my head now and I just Get It in a way I didn't before? This is a known phenomenon, brains are neat)

My audio comprehension is still dogshit but it's not as much dogshit as it was

I did not make three, but I did make 4 which is not bad. However I woke up after an hour and a half and have not been able to fall back asleep

Most of the problem is that the humidity is sucking all the moisture out of my face and it's super uncomfortable, but also my brain is just super awake for no particular reason.

So I saw this post a few months ago:

And thought "...ah. Have I been doing that?" Because I think I had in fact been doing that

I've been putting conscious effort into not pulling my shoulders out of joint to sleep and it has been helping, I haven't had the debilitating shoulder/back pain I was getting pretty often since. It's a shame though because it is really comfortable to sleep like that

So it's been, three-quarters of a year of very consciously not dislocating my shoulders when I sleep and in that time I've had the debilitating back pain like maybe twice, and those times have happened because Unfortunately, Sometimes there are mornings like this morning where I just can't get comfortable enough to fall asleep any other way and I'm so desperate to sleep that I just say fuck it and collapse like a jointed doll with a snapped tendon.

It honestly sucks a lot how comfortable sleeping in that position is -- in the same way I tend to pull my hips out of joint while laying down because it feels really good to stretch my legs out like that. You would think that dislocating your shoulders would be Uncomfortable but apparently no,

Anyway, so I've got the back pain again today
