What have I been up to! It's a mystery honestly

But I did finish my homework for this week with an hour to spare. I also called dad today to catch up with him -- apparently the stuff Des was dealing with when we were supposed to go to the movies a couple-few weeks ago is stuff that she is still now dealing with

(ash don't look)

► Show Spoiler

I'm going to try to get over to dad's house to see him on Friday, and he's going to see about making the movie-and-a-dinner happen then. Since I got that scheduled I was also able to schedule a game night with the lads -- Erika, Dave and I are going to play some Phasmophobia (or something)

I've decided to try really learning the Trunic1 script, because I think it's super cool looking, so I've made myself some flashcards for that and have been trying to memorise them. The script is a bit of an abugida based on a shape like the runes in Legend of Zelda -- vowels are the outline and consonants are the facets -- so I'm trying to learn both to recognise the vowels and consonants on their own and also to recognise clusters as their own units.

It looks like this:

iː.png

The vowel "ee"

z.png

The consonant "z"

ziː.png

Combine them and you get the syllable "zee"

Naturally I also started a new Tunic playthrough but part of wanting to learn the script is so I can just read the trunic text in the game without having to stop and decipher it constantly, so I didn't keep that up very long

Oh, I did play through the entirety of Amanda the Adventurer and Amanda the Adventurer 2. Steam was doing a halloween sale and I've been wanting to give those a try for a long time so I bit the bullet on them. The story is your pretty standard 'kids show based creepypasta' fare, but the puzzles in 1 are pretty good and I really like how the game reuses puzzles with different solutions to branch the game into different endings. The puzzles in 2 are ... not great, by and large, and often lean too hard on shock horror. In particular -- not in terms of shock-horror but in terms of the puzzles not being good -- apparently the very first puzzle in the game used to be different and they updated it to make it easier, but didn't remove all the clues for the original puzzle so now people (including me) are getting confused and frustrated when they can't solve the puzzle based on the clues that no longer apply to it. So that's not great!

3 is going to get released this month, I think, and I probably will play it. I was disappointed by 2 but I'm still intrigued enough to go for it, and just hope they return to form a bit on the game design.

Alright Oz is trying very hard to steal my pizza so I'm going to go ahead and post this so I can go ahead and eat it

I've been measuring Oz's food intake and as of tonight I have enough data to get an average over a week.

About 0.89oz/day, 166kcal/day
I want her to be eating about 2.6oz/day and she needs probably 200-250kcal/day based on her ideal weight. I have no idea how to increase her intake, obviously I've been trying for uh. Years!

Did try a wet food for her last night and she refused it. I've been adding some baby food to her dry food when she's outright refusing to eat and that's helping, she is eating more and more consistently than she has at other times (and the baby food would be calories that aren't getting documented because I'm just not going to be able to do that). I just would really like her to not be skin and bones, and I would really like it if I could convince the vets that there's something wrong and she needs more than getting prescribed yet another $100 food that she won't eat (part of why I'm gathering data is so I have it to bring to the vet next time she goes in)

Oof, class.

So the majority of class today was reading kanji-practice-passages and when it was my turn I read it mostly fine and then had to translate it and was just like, I have no idea what this means. I have never seen these words before in my life. So that was rough

I did redeem myself a bit later I think on my next one which I translated fine, and like there are tons of passages in there that I would have been able to translate fine, but for some reason the specific one I got first was just nothing to me. I didn't have a very good lunch today and I think my blood sugar was low, and also after class now I have started to feel a migraine coming on, but honestly I was just super unprepared. Need to study more! Need studying to not feel like pulling teeth.

I also slept basically all day. Usually I start getting ready for class an hour-and-a-half early so I can sit down and do some prep and reviews beforehand but today I started getting ready like ten-to. I just really was not feeling it, and I'm still so tired.

I need to get on taking my pills again

Five pages of homework this week, two grammar, one listening, two kanji. She mentioned a chapter 15 quiz but if that's assigned then it's not in the modules yet. And next week we start on 16, and touched on a little of that grammar in the last five minutes of class

This might be an early night, or even a nap in the near future, I am so tired.

Working out seasons on Kuris

Feast (analogous to spring): Plenty of food, great weather; lasts around 120 days on average and begins around what we would consider February, lasting through what we would consider May

Fire (analogous to summer): Extremely hot, resources are harder to find; lasts around 90 days on average, beginning around June

Flood (monsoon season): 30-60 days of mostly continuous rain, Teket and Anket migrate to areas with better flood-protection (Teket south into forests, Anket east to higher ground); begins around August

Fire 2: Usually goes into September

Famine (analogous to winter): Cold and dry, lasts on average 90 days; usually begins around October and ends around December

And then around January is a ~30 day transition between Famine and Feast, not really considered a season in its own right

Now I've got dried blood in my hair 😓

Been doing laundry today, finally getting around to washing my blankets and such. That takes up a lot of spoons, so I haven't been up to much else.

The classes for next semester are up and it looks like my current professor is not going to continue teaching at this college, the 412 class is going to be taught by a professor who apparently used to teach here but left in 2022, and I guess now is back. Still not sure if I'm going to take it immediately, but I'm glad it's still going to be offered

ash and I watched this week's Dragula -- not only did Abhora not get eliminated but Both of the worst of the drama-inciters did (one of them removed from the show for misconduct, apparently). Of course there's still drama, and some of it feels very forced right now but most of it is actually stuff related to the actual competition so that's nice. Honestly we're down to pretty much just contestants that I like -- I could see Sigourney and Jaharia go home without caring much, and honestly Evah as well but we all know that's not going to happen. I think my ideal top three is Abhora, Blackberri, and Jay Kay, and I would love for any of them to be crowned Titan, but more realistically I think Evah is going to be in there and probably Signourney (the Boulets love her for some reason, ash and I don't really see it). I honestly think Blackberri was robbed on her season so I'd love to see her take the crown, but also I'm stanning Abhora because he's come so far and seems to be in such a better place now than he has been in the past and I want to see him succeed. Jay Kay is just a chaos gremlin and I think it'd be fun for them to make it to the top because it would make a ton of people (including contestants) salty as hell, though I don't think their drag is quite there yet so I don't think they actually deserve the win.

But also we're like halfway through the season, and we do also have to keep in mind that one of the eliminated contestants is going to come back for the finale -- does that mean we're getting a top four or is that contestant taking one of the top three slots?

Anyway! We also watched a few clips from a Japanese variety/game show I found last night, in which the contestants had to try to translate English, to hilarious results. And after ash went to bed I played Smalland with Dave -- a lot of progress! I continued to work on my attempts to cheese the incubation system by building a small, elevated fortress around the incubator and also tonight learned that I can cover the walls in spike traps. We beat a couple of bosses and unlocked a couple things, including the next tier glider. Dave also found the gravestone we had thought was lost forever, so that's cool even though the stuff that was in it was not stuff we particularly need anymore.

And meanwhile it looks like Prop 50 is passing (the 'let california democrats rig district lines to counter republicans doing the same' proposition) and several democrats in other states are projected to have won their own elections. It's nice to end the night on some somewhat hopeful news.

This is a thing I've been pecking at for... a while, and though it is only 78 words long, every one of those highlights is a footnote and I am delighted to inform you that the footnotes are 510% the body of the text

This is 322 words now but it's around 1,150 with the footnotes. 72% of this writing is footnote

Alright, I am Wiped The Fuck Out but I have clean sheets and blankets and pillowcases. I just kind of threw them on, so they'll need to be redone soon but I also haven't really winterised yet so they'd need to get redone soon anyhow.

I was going to Magnus Archives before I went to sleep but I think I'm too tired for it. Tomorrow! And tonight rest

It's a grey, rainy day, I'm curled up in bed (clean sheets!) with a space heater and both of the cats sleeping with me. There's also a mosquito but I guess nothing can be perfect
