"Emergency" means imminent damage to the house, of course. Fuck the tenants

So either the professor thought we weren't having class yesterday (I mean it is Thanksgiving week) or she was too busy to properly prepare for the class (I mean it is Thanksgiving week), because she did not seem super prepared for class, yesterday. A lot of like, jumping between activities and not having those activities ready for us, kind of stuff. But we did have class and it went alright, we've started chapter 17 now. Should be a chapter 16 quiz to take this week, and I think two workbook pages

Today I waited around for the maintenance guys to come fix the plumbing for about an hour and a half, then they fixed the clog in half an hour, and after that I did some chores. With the sink clogged and dishwasher out of commission, we had a pileup of dishes that needed to be washed for a couple days, so I soaked all of them in hot, soapy water for an hour, then rinsed them and put them neatly next to the sink. Also ran a load that ash had put in the dishwasher last night. I wiped down the counter the dishes had been on, and I moved the hibachi to the place we've been meaning to put it, and I did the usual with the couch (uncover, fluff and rotate cushions, fold blanket, brush off; also realign the coffee table). I think that was about it

While waiting I watched the 2023 OVA for The Girl from the Other Side (Siúil, a Rún), which is a story that I Really want to expose ash to but he doesn't read manga. It's about a little girl who's been adopted by some manner of Fae Being and lives with him in the woods. Plot happens, but also a fair amount of just, slice-of-life stuff. It's great, and there was a previous OVA that I made him watch sight-unseen which turned out to be a mistake because the OVA was Super Confusing and impossible to follow if you were not already familiar with the manga. Maybe this new OVA would be better! It's much longer, so plenty of space to include, like, the story and exposition and everything, right? Alas, it too is impossibly confusing. Maybe someday they'll do a proper anime adaptation and then we can watch it

While ash was making dinner I started reading him another Schnoebelen book -- this is the christian preacher who claims to have been a mason, a mormon, a wiccan, a satanist, a vampire, and many other things, whose books we like to read and make fun of. We're reading one on UFOs now, and it's a great time. Then we ate dinner and watched Dragula -- another great episode, and alas we're only a couple episodes away from the end of the season. It's going to be weird to watch the reunion episode and not jump straight into the finale from it

We watched a Worst Cooks which was also fun, and then ash went to bed and I'm about to jump into game night with Dave. This will take up the rest of my night but if I can I want to squeeze a little relay work in, as well

A lot of trouble getting up and moving today -- very grey and cold. I wanted to jump in the shower at some point but didn't end up doing it so I'll try to do it tomorrow. ash got home early due to Thanksgiving tomorrow but even though I knew that was happening, I planned a schedule around him getting home at a normal time, so that threw me off a little.

What I did do, is I finally got around to cleaning the coffee table. It has rolly wheels that have been sticking a lot for a while, and since I'm rearranging it back into position most days it really started to annoy me, so I flipped it over and cleaned out all the hair and such that had gotten stuck in them. I then also wiped the table down and cleaned the glass panels on it. It still needs more TLC but it's a good start, and definitely rolls a bit better and more predictably now

We were due to watch a Sandman today but instead, since we were both tired and we got to watching things a bit late due to my cleaning the table, we watched a Let's Game it Out archived stream and then some more of the 2025 Youtube Conlanger Relay. We have three legs left to watch and then a couple post-mortem videos if we want to do those

And speaking of conlang relays, I spent the rest of the evening after ash went to bed working on translating the torch I received and actually just finished a little bit ago! I have a full English translation now, including the post-translation polish which was much easier than what I had to work with after getting the last relay I participated in's torch into English. My next step is glossing this into Teket Lau

We got a package in the mail today for a house that has the same number as us and is on a street with a very similar name to ours, that happens to be a couple blocks away, so tomorrow if I'm able I'm going to bike it over to the correct house and drop it off. And then obviously tomorrow will be thanksgiving, so that'll take up a fair amount of the day.

I've been running a little short on sleep for a while, I think, so I was pretty tired today and should go to bed soon

So a couple weeks ago I was drinking sparkling cider and the foam gave me an idea

What if, sparkling cider.... float?

It could be really bad. But it could be good?

I had the opportunity to try it the other night and it was weird. But not bad! I actually think the kind of cider I used (apple pomegranate) was putting me off more than anything, but I also felt that it would work better as a shake than a float

More experimenting is required. But it gave vibes of apple pie with ice cream

Today was thanksgiving! When I got up, I hopped on my bike to take that package to the correct house, which was about a two minute ride one-way so didn't take me long at all. It was quite cold however, a very brisk ride. Shortly after I got home I set my computer up in the living room and watched ash play New Vegas while I worked on the conlang relay. This was broken up occasionally by food prep, and at one point I made two pots of mashed potatoes, one very herby and one sweet (not sweetpotatoes, sweet potatoes). The sweet option turned out to have a taste and texture extremely similar to pumpkin pie, which I think is impressive, and the herby option was just delicious. We also had turkey, of course, and brussels sprouts, stuffing, olives, gravy for other people, and cranberry sauce for me. And pumpkin pie with whipped cream for dessert, and sparkling cider (again; the store had them on sale recently for seven dollars for two bottles, which is crazy and means that we've picked up a few bottles multiple times). As always, we have ideas for things we'd like to do differently or add to the menu next year, which we will probably forget about by then

We watched a Worst Cooks while we ate and then we played some PlateUp! -- we wanted, sort of, to start up Resident Evil 3 but it turns out I do not have it ready to go on the steamdeck. I'd thought I had, but maybe I got rid of it to make space or something? That would be extremely weird if so. But we played PlateUp! and started a candy restaurant where we're dressed up like maid cafe catgirls (except I'm a fox and ash was a bear and then a bunny), and it was very fun

Oz spent basically the entire evening with us, even after we stopped having turkey to share with her. I don't want to jinx anything but she's been pretty active, and much more willing to follow me around again and spend time out in the house with me. This might have something to do with it being cold

She did also pee on one of my blankets so I'm washing that and a couple clothes, but other than that I'll be spending the night working on the conlang relay until bed. Then tomorrow I will resume working on the conlang relay

Alright! I have glossed a translation into teket and slotted in all the words I already have, now I just need to coin 27 words I don't
