Re: Promiseland
Went to the arcade with ash! It was fun, we won a bunch of stuff, but also we're continuing to just save up our tickets. We also got an actual explanation for the pokemon machine and its tiered prizes, the instructions for which aren't really written down at all anywhere and we haven't been able to figure out before
On the way there I also ran into staples and picked up a couple packs of graph paper (annoyed at the selection, honestly, which was uh, not much, and then when I was paying the cashier seemed confused that I was trying to pay her in cash, and then entered the $10 I gave her as $100, and then instead of cancelling the order and redoing it she just did head math to figure out how much change she should actually be giving me and I had to just trust she was correct. Also they sell toilet paper at staples now?)
It was cold and foggy for much of the day but around noon the sun came out. The weather has been extremely strange for January -- nice, but also very concerning from a climate change perspective. I hope the mountains are getting enough snow to get us through the summer

Re: Promiseland
So as we were leaving the arcade, ash was talking about getting in to pokemon as an adult, now, instead of as a child back in the 90s and 00s (part of the issue there being that he wasn't a child in the 90s and 00s, well, not the later 90s anyway) and I decided that I'm going to make ash watch digimon with me and find him a digimon that can be his thing like bulbasaur is. He agreed very in the 'I am going to let you do this to me because I love you, but I cannot guarantee that I will be willing to watch more than a few episodes' way, but we are six episodes in and he's actually enjoying it! We are both enjoying ourselves making fun of these dumb children, and he is enjoying me talking at length about Themes and character development and etc, and he is very intrigued by the setting
But the important part, which digimon does he like best? There is no clear frontrunner yet, but he likes palmon, except for the vines on her arms; tokomon and patamon are cute but I think don't have enough substance for him, yet; he likes gabumon (but doesn't like garurumon, whomst gabumon digivolves in to (I don't think this is a point against gabumon, I also think ash doesn't like venusaur very much, but it is data he gave me)); and he likes gomamon even though he said he was biased against him because he's popular (and I don't see what he's seeing, there, that's indicating that gomamon is really popular, but I will say that while looking for these images to link to gomamon is the only one for whom I got explicit porn on the first page of image results, so maybe he's got something there?)
Anyway! I'm really excited to be watching this with him, and really excited that he's enjoying watching it with me, it's a pleasant surprise for both of us

Re: Promiseland
To be honest, I don't myself have a One Single Digimon That Is My Fave -- I like the tentomon line because I identified strongly with Izzy when I watched the series as a kid; when I made up my own digimon to have when I pretended to be a digidestined, he was a gatomon palette-swap; when I play digimon world I usually start off with gabumon. There are a lot of digimon that are cool and I enjoy them but I don't have a favourite, really. Maybe we will find one for me, too, on our quest to find ash's

Re: Promiseland
I do wonder if digimon as portrayed in the anime are too personality-ful, and individuals, in a way pokemon generally aren't treated as. Like choosing a favourite pokemon is like having a favourite animal, but having a favourite digimon is like having a favourite person, they just aren't the same sort of thing. Not like, not a thing, but different

(I've been having the same 'want to find my favourite' sort of desires with the vital bracelet. These are all just normal men)

It should also be noted that data here as pertaining to me could be corrupted by the fact that I just don't have very many favourites of anything. It could just be that
