Tonight's 'huh, I guess that wouldn't be a universal experience' moment is that I'm listening to a podcast on which one of the hosts is saying he doesn't know if he's ever actually held real gold

Sacramento was a mining town during the gold rush, so all of our souvenir shops have little vials of Genuine Gold Flakes. Not unique to us, of course (I've also seen them in Nevada and Arizona) but the assumption that everyone will have had one of them at some point in their lives would naturally be silly on actual reflection

(as a kid I also had a 24 karat gold guardian angel necklace. But the little vials were my immediate thought)

Oh shit!! I have been ignoring the new Tomodachi Life stuff because I assumed it would just be for Switch 2 but apparently it's for regular Switch??? Hell yes!!

Probably looking at another week for the new bedstuff to arrive -- the sheets and stuff are handmade and made-to-order, which I thought maybe wouldn't apply to me since I ordered a bundle and I'd assumed that the bundled stuff was already made in advance, but seems not. But it should all ship out on Monday or Tuesday, I think, and then it needs to travel from Massachusetts to California

I'm pretty excited to rearrange my room, honestly! For a bit the old bed is going to just be leaned against a wall in here while I make sure I can sleep on the futon and won't need to swap back, but assuming that's the case we'll then find a place for it that isn't my room. I plan on getting some garage cleanup done this week, but realistically I won't make a bed-sized dent in that for a while, so I dunno. It's not actually my bed, so I will defer to whatever Lee wants to happen to it when it comes to it.

Even if the futon doesn't work out I do think I am going to swap out the current bed for something, and will probably go loft bed and steal my mattress back out of the guest room. That was my set-up at my parents' house, was a full-sized loft I'd gotten from amazon. But if the futon does work, I'll want to get a loveseat or something with storage under the seat, to store the futon in when not in use.

Thing I am worried and thinking about is Oz food. Right now she eats on my bed so I can keep Cael away from it, and there's the screen there so she has a little privacy/security while she's eating. I am unsure how I can meet her needs with the arrangement I'm envisioning, but I'm also kind of hoping that if I swap her to partially wet food that maybe she will need less food just sitting out.

Dunno! I will work with her as things move along.

Oz needs:
-Food available at all times
-Especially at around 6:00 AM
-Privacy and security while eating
-Food in small, square-shaped bowl
-Not too much food at once (needs to be refilled through the day)
-Sometimes needs me to feed her 1-2 kibbles at a time by hand

And it needs to be in an area I can reasonably designate as 'hers' and teach Cael to stay away from it

My bedstuff has shipped! As of a few days ago. It's coming in one 60 lbs package, one 30 lbs package, and one 20 lbs package, and it has an estimated delivery of Tuesday but is coming via fedex so I'm just going to assume it'll be a day or two late. Ideally when it gets here I will shower, wash the bedding, sun the shikibuton and kakefuton (mattress and blanket), and move the current bed such that there will be room for the futon. I can almost guarantee I will not have energy for all of that but hey, hope springs eternal and all that.

I also have ordered some cans of wet food for Oz, fingers crossed that this she likes. That is due to get here on Monday, and I ordered through chewy again because petco didn't have some of the things I needed to get (the specific litter and dental treats I use). Loyalty to any given major corporation is foolish, so.

It rained for a couple of days, and has gotten colder again -- my joints were extremely unhappy with that turn of events, but today was pretty nice so I walked to the store. I wanted to get some alcohols because I'm hoping that getting a little buzzed can help me loosen up and get some writing actually done, and also I wanted to get some smirnoff ice because smirnoff ice is tasty. I got a bottle of Redwood Empire Pipe Dream Bourbon, which frankly tastes like every other whisky, to me, and some Smirnoff Ice Lemonade (in four flavours) which is delicious. I had planned on picking up some other things, like milk and soda and baby food but the walk was a little rough on me and by the time I got there I wanted to just get in and out. And getting the bourbon involved interrupting an employee and asking them to unlock the cabinet for me.

Lee is leaving on a little solo vacation this weekend, and on Saturday I'll be playing the Peak update with Erika and Dave. Unfortunately with the weather being what it has, I haven't been able to get much done so I've been back on the youtube and video game grind. Which I'm about to go do again tonight.

The chewy package got here sooner than estimated, and they also must have heard me talking shit because there was padding in there this time -- a single sheet of packing paper between the litter and the side of the box.

But the package did have some wet foods, so we tried one with Oz tonight! At first she didn't show any interest, but I put one of the broths on top and she ate the whole thing. I also gave a small spoonful to Cael in lieu of his usual lunch, and he ate part of it but seemed to get frustrated and wandered away. He does that with food a lot, he's not at all food motivated when he's not being chronically underfed.

Hopefully Oz will now be interested in the wet food without needing a broth mixed in, we will see. Tonight was a chicken and quail egg -- I got three different variety packs, I am unsure yet if I will pull one tomorrow from this same pack or switch to one of the other two. But I hope this gets Oz excited for food again and that it helps her put on some weight.
