I'm glad she has a new vet for a 2nd opinion, I will say if it at least validates some of your concerns (which I think are all valid and kind), I did not feel as ignored when Baby was in her gray hairs -- it's obviously a tough thing all around and may just be some of the wretched difference between how people treats dogs vs cats, but I legitimately did not feel pressured to enter "we are on end-of-life care with no further major treatments" conversations until she genuinely needed to be on home hospice w/ me giving her subcutaneous fluid. I think they're not treating your concerns seriously, and that you're right to be upset about it.

Well another inevitability happened and a cat peed on my futon, presumably Oz. I've been up since 5 so I really don't want to be up late cleaning it, but what can you do, I also don't want to sleep on a peed-on futon

Thankfully missed the silk pillow, but did get my other pillow and of course the cover and mattress. Cover and pillowcase are in the wash, pillow will be in the wash when they're done, and there's vinegar and baking soda on the futon. I've been meaning to sun the futon again so tomorrow I can do that, and no real harm done, but Oz very rarely pees outside the litterboxes when they're clean and I just cleaned them last night, so I'm a bit worried. More worried than I already was worried.

So I got the futon out sunning all day, and had half an hour left on the timer when the pool guy(s) showed up. Because there's two of them now the work goes quicker, so they arrived much earlier than they usually do. I went out to pull the futon in and said 'Let me get that out of your way' and the guy said 'Oh it's not in our way' and like, maybe not but you are getting pool water on it and it's explicitly out there to dry, so. I'm only a little annoyed, I normally wouldn't try to have it out there on Wednesdays at all except the cat peed on it last night

Anyway after another couple hours I brought it back inside and it's covered again and set up for me to play games with Dave while sitting on it. Sunning them expands the fibers after they've been compressed from being slept on, so it's super fluffy again, it's funny

I think I've mentioned I'm getting a weekly food box of snacks and stuff for myself -- last week I got orange cranberry scones and they were super green. They didn't smell, and I did end up eating one and it tasted fine, but they were a uniform mossy green and naturally I was a little concerned! The pictures on the product page weren't green and the description didn't say anything about it, so I asked the company's AI if they were okay to eat and the AI told me not to eat them and to request a refund. I did so, including in my refund request that I wasn't sure if they were bad but that the AI had told me to refund them, and included a picture of them, kind of hoping that someone would get back to me but of course I never heard anything about it and my refund was just automatically granted, so. When Lee got home I asked his opinion and he said he was worried the mix might have been tainted with something, or something, so I threw them out. I did have a bit of an upset stomach that night and thought it might have been the one I ate

Since I didn't get to eat them last week, I threw some into my order for this week and when they arrived today, they were also green! If it was enough of a bad batch that the same issue is happening multiple weeks in a row (or if it's just a normal thing about that product), I thought someone might be talking about it on the internet, so I started searching, and this is how I learned that the anthocyanins in cranberries can react with the baking powder to turn baked goods green! Basically it's a pH test

I’m guessing there are anthocyanins in cranberries, as there are in blueberries. They react with baking powder and turn green. You might have seen this before in blueberry muffins or pancakes.

Red cabbage contains excess amounts of a class of plant pigments called Anthocyanins.

This is a common "Accessory Pigment" in most flowering plants, and is responsible for the pink and blue colors in many flowers. Hydrangeas or cornflowers for example.

Red cabbage has been selectively bred for a gene mutation that causes this pigment to be overproduced.

Anthocyanin is a natural Acid-base Indicator.

In acid conditions, it reacts with excessive H+ ions. This modifies the electron structure in the molecule, making it tend to absorb green light.

In basic conditions, the excess H+ is neutralized by substances like bicarbonate ions. This shifts the energy of the pigment so it tends to absorb red light, producing a bluish- green.

Indeed, red cabbage that is grown in acidic soils will tend to have a more pink tint, while that grown in basic soils will tend to look more purple or purple-green.

So it's a shame to have wasted last week's, but it would be nice if the AI had been able to tell me that it's a normal reaction that happens sometimes in that product, or if a human had been able to respond to my questions at any point, or if the product page mentioned that the product may be green, or. But now I know, and this will be very useful information to have!

Oz has a little cat bed/house next to where my bed goes, and she spends much of her time in it but when I get into bed for the night she crawls out to lay down next to me

Oz's eating right now is better than it's been in a long time, though only for her kibble -- no interest in treats, still, and only eats a very small amount of the wet food. But she's eating a lot of the kibble and very consistently. I haven't crunched the numbers but I would not be at all surprised if she's currently eating the amounts she was before she started going food averse

Her poops are still not great, and obviously I am assuming that her eating will not stay good, and she continues to have the loss of muscle mass that makes her look so skinny. But it's heartening to see her interested in her food right now

So two months ago, I woke up with my eyes super inflamed, super light-sensitive, felt like they were full of sand. It was awful, but I flushed them out with clean water and went back to sleep to let them rest, and when I woke up again they were mostly fine. Figured I'd gotten something in my eyes that scratched my corneas while I was asleep, since I'd been doing yard-work that day and spraying dirt off of things with a hose. Didn't think too deeply about it after it was over.

Today I woke up with one of my eyes super inflamed. No idea what I could have done to irritate it, this time, possibly both incidences have been allergies, though it would be weird for it to just be the one eye. It actually feels like the inside of the eyelid got cut or scratched and that's the issue, but I flushed it out when I woke up, went back to sleep hoping it would be better again, and then woke up and it was better but then rapidly got worse. Flushed it again, went back to sleep, and now I'm in the same position again -- felt better, getting worse. I think I'll need to keep it closed and covered until whatever's wrong with it is healed, and of course doctor if it keeps being an issue

Unfortunately there was an Arcadia recording scheduled today, and part of it is recordings that have needed to be rescheduled already, which is annoying. But I can't read fluidly with just one eye, and keeping using the other one is probably making things worse. Also, obviously, missed the torah study

Okay, I have finangled my eye-mask to be an eye-patch, I'm going to, go figure out something to do with myself that doesn't involve too much seeing.

This happened again this morning (currently at 'woke up feeling better, possibly getting worse again?)

It is allergy season again, but it's still weird for it to happen in just one eye, and I was only outside long enough yesterday to water one of the roses, I've definitely spent more time outside in more pollen on different days

I cleaned and refilled the cat's litterbox yesterday, but don't remember doing that in specific before either of the other two incidences, and obviously have done that between the last incidence and now without issue. Same with laundry

I did put lotion on my face before bed last night and remember doing that before the last incidence if not the first - this is my best guess, that the lotion is getting into my eye in my sleep. I'll have to be more careful about it, and hopefully it doesn't happen again

But if it does, that's a list of possible triggers, off the top of my head. I didn't do anything else yesterday but hang out with ash in the living room and play video games in mine. It's the right eye again, which I believe it also was the second time

Going to mention 'pinkeye' to make this easy to search for in future

Been a while since this happened but it's happened again. Right eye, feels like there's something sharp in it and it's gone super watery. I did not lotion my face last night. I have flushed it out, and now I'm going to try going back to sleep and hoping it feels better when I wake up again

(I also did not do laundry or clean the litterboxes, I was outside for a bit to walk back and forth from my room to the back patio but it was raining-ish all day so I doubt it was pollen)

Happened again, right eye

Looking at those posts, this happened in May, July, April, November, and now June - if it weren't for November that would be a pretty weak 'in Spring' pattern. With November it's nothing

I did fuckall yesterday, no litterboxes or laundry or yardwork or lotion. Lee was doing stuff with mica powder near me, it's possible some got into my eye? I doubt, though.

Seems like every time but the first it's been the right eye, which kind of suggests it's not an external cause. Getting to be time to talk to a doctor about it probably, but is it actually worth worrying about for a thing that happens for a few hours a couple times a year or is this more of just one of those things that happens sometimes? The frequency of incidents doesn't appear to be increasing, so maybe its just something I have to deal with every 7-9 months
