Anyway I realised you can still test out of units in the pre-path app so I finally made it out of the endless katakana lessons

but GUESS WHAT'S WAITING FOR ME

Tested out of all six levels and the four legendary tests, without sound, in like ten minutes

This is a problem

Duolingo will do nothing about it, though

Thankfully that looks like the last katakana unit, so it should just come up in reviews now

Here's a conversation that happens a lot:

Pedestrian 1: Drivers always get so angry and offended when you don't want to cross in front of them
Pedestrian 2: And they get angry when you do cross anyway because you're making them wait for you
Pedestrian 1: I wish they'd just go and let me cross after they do instead of waving me on
Driver: We stop because we can't tell if you're going to suddenly jump out into the middle of the street

Cool! We weren't actually talking about you stopping though, we were talking about you glaring at us and honking at us and revving your engines at us, you'll notice that's a different thing than you stopping at an intersection

(Also for fuck's sake just let us vent about drivers and having to exist in a car-centric society without being car-splained at, thanks)

Like I get that being a driver is stressful, you have a lot of things you need to pay attention to at once, and I know that you don't want to hit a person and be responsible for hurting them or killing them. I know people are unpredictable and you just don't know if that person waiting to cross the street is going to decide to just make a run for it and you'll have to stop or slow down suddenly, or if the biker in the lane next to you is going to suddenly lose control and swerve in front of you

But you have got to understand that all of that is also true in reverse -- you, drivers, are also unpredictable and I do not know if you're going to decide to pull out without looking, if you're going to decide to try to scare me for the crime of making you wait another minute, if you're going to lose control of your vehicle and drive up onto the sidewalk -- but if that happens, it's me who gets hurt or killed

Stop getting offended when I acknowledge that
