Most languages do this stuff by talking around things and making indirect requests -- not putting people in positions where they have to say 'no', for example. I want to do something with, it's respectful to not waste someone's time and to just get to your point as succinctly as possible. But I'm not sure how to effectively differentiate that from more casual speech

I also would like something like there being a specific question format used when speaking with a superior, where -- I'm not sure how to describe what I mean exactly but instead of asking 'this or that' or 'what's your opinion on this' or etc, you have to make a statement of what you want/expect the answer to be, but marked somehow as 'unless you'd rather something else'. The exact opposite of the 'don't put people in a position to have to say no' thing, showing respect by not wasting time nor making someone else spend energy on figuring something out for you

"What should we have for dinner?" == "Let's have chicken for dinner, unless...?"
"Do you want me to take out the trash?" == "I'll take out the trash, unless...?"
"Should we go to the park or see a movie?" == "Let's see a movie, unless...?"*

Of course, this would also create the format
"Can you check on the baby?" == "You'll check on the baby, unless...?"

This sounds very rude to someone from my culture, of course, but either it's perfectly fine in teket cultures, or it's still rude and you just don't make those kinds of requests to your superior

*This one would get formatted differently, unless you actually had a preference for one option over the other. But the point is to avoid giving options, and to trust that the superior would be able to express a preference for something else even if you only give them an option for one thing, should they desire to

Possibly differentiate all this from a more explicit imperative form used when speaking with inferiors

And then speech with equals (and close-equals) could prioritise autonomy, and that's the one where you're careful to leave options open and to get the other person's opinion before making a decision

Spent a long time in the guest room today! It was not entirely -- or even mostly -- productive, but I did get some things done. I checked if Twine and Scrivener were installed and working; I copied the most recent version of the teket lau document over to that computer; I did the above brainstorming and fine-tuning

I ascended again in cookie clicker,

Before all of that, I also washed some of the dishes I've had in my room, and set the dishwasher to re-run when it became apparent that it hadn't run properly the first time. In a minute here I should go actually empty it

I also took my morning walk around the pool, and (over)filled the pool while I was at it (oops) ((it's fine, it barely overflowed))

Oz did have some opinions about how long I spent in the office, and I would prefer to not stay in there to this late in the afternoon anyway; I'll need to keep better track of the time and not hyperfocus on random dumb shit like rereading threads here

It's a lovely day and I might go sit outside for a bit until ash gets home, after I do the aforementioned putting dishes away

Just learned discord doesn't let you choose where it installs to, it just forces itself onto your default drive? What the fuck is this nonsense

I'm trying to clear space on that exact drive because it's honestly kind of small and used mostly for operating system stuff. I'd prefer discord not be taking up room on there!

So youtube has been recommending this video to me for a while:

A couple of nights ago I finally decided to check out, but then as the video started and the creator was explaining what it was all about, I started getting the feeling that this was something I might want to look into and experience myself before I got too spoiled. So I did

And it's extremely cool, and I highly recommend also checking it out!

It's a very classic internet-horror-story premise -- the OP of the mod's friend died, they inherited a map the friend had been working on and decided to finish and upload it in honor of said friend. Spooky stuff starts happening

My journey here was that I played for a while, it seemed neat, I checked out the supplementals that came with it (mostly a journal OP wrote while working on the map, again very classic internet-horror-story, down to the amateurish writing), I thought it was charming, I looked up some tips to get past things that I was stuck on,

I started to get the impression that this was much bigger, more complicated, and more skillfully made than I'd first thought...

I started to get really excited to play through it, and dig into things, and to share it with ash when he was awake. When I got tired of playing, I'd figured I was far enough into it that I didn't need to worry about getting 'spoiled' any more, so I watched the video, and got to be newly impressed by all the details that went over my head -- subtle, little touches to unnerve the player without them being able to put their finger on why. Details about how much work had to go into the map to be able to make it -- the technicalities of how difficult it would have been to do what they did. Connections between the supplementals and the events of the game. Little easter eggs and surprises stuck in for specific actions the player might take

It's a really good game! Really impressive both from a technical standpoint and from a storytelling/game design standpoint -- amateurish prose notwithstanding. It's one of the best examples of liminal horror done in a video game, basically the only example of The Backrooms done well at all (in my opinion). Highly recommend messing around with it, especially before it properly kicks off and everyone's talking about it. I had ash do much the same progression I did -- mess with the game, dig around outside the game for a little more information, back into the game, then the video. I think that's a good, thorough and enjoyable way to go about it, so you get the experience of uncovering stuff for yourself, and then also get second-hand the full experience of what the game has to offer without having to, like, do the Doom-quality boss fights. Unless you're into that in which case go for it! Maybe with a walkthrough at that point

Though, also recommend watching the video at 1.25x speed. It, uh. I don't want to be mean but it sounds normal at that speed.

Woke up late today and honestly could have just gone back to sleep and stayed that way, except that my throat was super dry, so I went ahead and woke up enough to drink some water and eat breakfast. I did a walk around the pool, pilled the cat, and went into the guest room to do a little work on the 'learn teket' website. I went to sleep last night thinking about it, so I wanted to go ahead and implement what I'd been thinking about before I lost interest again

Anyway! Got a proof of concept up -- it of course needs a lot of work still done on it, even with actual content aside, and the quiz part needs proof-of-concepting as well, but it's doing what I wanted it to

I stopped around four, and when I got up I was really light-headed for some reason -- I figured I needed to eat, but I made myself a sandwich and it didn't help. I would later decide that it's a weird migraine symptom, as I also started to get a headache, but before that I sat at the computer in my room for a while and hoped it would go away, then hung out with ash in the living room and ate dinner. At 6:30-ish I decided that it wasn't going away and I should go lay down, so we watched one more episode of Um Actually and I did that. It's 11 now and I'm still feeling weird, hopefully it's gone by tomorrow.

Given that, I've mostly just been laying down and zoning out on the internet. Gonna go back to that now, and probably go to bed soon
