Ended up walking to the store anyway, which was a bit more adventuresome than expected because when I got there there was a power outage throughout that shopping center. The grocery store was still open, though, so I shopped in their emergency lighting for a bit and then the power came back and I shopped as normal. Unfortunately when I was done the drug store next door was still closed so I couldn't go in there

I was responsible and clipped coupons last night, so I saved about $20 off my order, and mostly just got things I actually need, so overall a win. I did get ingredients for rootbeer floats, so when I got home I had one of those. I also got a couple more birdfood options to hopefully entice a wider variety of birds to hang out. I fully expected mice to have finished off the peanuts already in there when I woke up -- they'd been trying to get up there all evening and managed it a few times, but I scared them off each time and maybe now they're too gunshy to try it again. We'll see if the added food redoubles their efforts

Okay, I should eat real food that isn't ice cream, so I'm gonna do that and watch an Ann Reardon, ciao

Just watched Turning Red finally -- I'm glad it exists but it is very not for me, somewhat predictably. I felt it went on a bit long, but the plot was very solid and had a few twists to it that were well done. Just, I'm not a teenage girl, so. Really happy that there's a movie out there that has a really good take on a female coming-of-age story, zero interest in seeing it a second time

They've added an intermission to the show which I appreciate but have been very curious where they put it

They put it between Guiteau's assassination and his song, which is. A choice.

Show was fun! A real range of talent but nobody terrible (except the child they shoehorned in to represent America™), they made some weird choices, sometimes to the detriment of the show (see above, and also the decision to explain the plot to the audience before the show started, which, why). Appreciated that they switched Booth's 'n-word lover' to 'negro lover', which is still a Bad Look as they say these days and has the same impact and effect as the original line, without being, like, offensive for the sake of it, you know. Speaking of Booth, his actor was Hot and Talented -- at one point he falls off his makeshift cane, onto a box, and then to the floor (an intentional stunt, to be clear), and keeps singing. Just amazing.

The show being in such a small space was really interesting, the actors were able to make some very subtle acting decisions that you can't really get away with when the audience is farther away, and overall the blocking and choreography was super well-done. They unfortunately did have a few points with an actor who isn't in the scene but is present for the scene, where they'll be standing "off to the side" but in practice "in front of part of the audience", which didn't work out great but stopped being an issue after the intermission. Which, again, put in a weird place but also I don't really know where would work. Ballad of Guiteau was very interestingly done -- the small space meant no stairs to the gallows and not a whole lot of space for him to be doing his chickening-out bit, but they took advantage of the change there to let him ham things up and do some somewhat more complicated choreography.

ash pointed out, correctly, that the costuming was extremely weird, putting all of the ensemble men in like, tailcoats and that sort of period clothing, which. Like, there's no point the ensemble is present that that's the appropriate era, so it's. Weird. The women were largely okay, but.

Anyway! A good time, and after the show ash and I talked about it for like two hours. I need to see the bootleg again, now
