idk if anyone has been following the Concord thing but absolutely wild how video game companies have started just going "oopsie doopsie!!! we changed our minds!!!" and are hitting the delete button on content that has often years of work and development in it, to say nothing of what now happens to an employee's ability to add that content to their portfolio/etc

like yeah they're issuing refunds but it's not a Cyberpunk situation where a broken game was released, it just did not land well and they're like "nevermind actually"

makes me even more determined to own physical media wherever relevant tbh

The new 'we didn't make all the money so the game is a failure': 'we didn't get 10/10 so the game is a failure'

This one's even extra baffling because they did essentially zero hype/marketing/trailers/etc so it's kinda no wonder it had an extremely low player count

Like yeah you didn't get Baldur's Gate awards but you also didn't.........try to??? nor do you need to???? please just make good video game and let people play it I promise it's fine

well I guess like, money is a thing, but then we're getting into maybe we shouldn't be spending development dollars and time on photorealism and whatever else

What makes the most sense is that since it's a multiplayer game, the servers cost money to run, and if it's not selling well then they're losing money on that. But two weeks is not enough time to know if a game isn't going to find an audience, especially if you don't market it at all? This just screams that they budgeted really, really badly

I do agree with the theory that Concord's visual style was at one point workshopped more stylized/big shapes because their costume options are kinda baffling otherwise

Some of the stranger ones would be cute if they weren't on a realistic model

The cat person's tail looks like an actual pipe cleaner, and also like someone cosplaying a manic pixie dream na'vi
