I was going to light a fire outside tonight but there's been a skunk roaming the yard the past few nights and I smelled it when I went out there. I'd rather not get sprayed or rabies, so I'm going to stay in tonight and try to do the fire tomorrow during the day

Finally got an introductory message from the professor, though the canvas stuff is still all wonky

Also, uh

Hidden text. You are not a member of the groups to which this text is available

A. This is even better than my previous professor who was like 'I don't care what edition you get of your textbook'
B. Pretty sure that's not how the law works

Wild, though, I was sure that was in there by some kind of oversight

And the canvas portal has updated! The calendar is still fucked, but at least the announcements have been cleared out and some new modules added. Hopefully the calendar (and 'missing assignments') is fixed in coming days

Oz 100% has her appetite back and she is Hungry, which is a very good sign. ash got me some organ meats Thursday, so tomorrow I'm going to break those down and start adding them in to her meals

I'm definitely going to talk with her vet about all this when she next gets seen, but we are on years now of trying to get help for her not eating and not really getting anywhere with that. Years of her appetite getting steadily worse, years of her weight fluctuating but never really getting back up to healthy, years of her general loss of interest in pretty much anything at all. And we could go back further, she's had occasional issues since she was a kitten, I've always sworn that she gets depressed, but it's been years of just, not being able to find any food she's willing to eat more than barely enough to survive on save for occasional 'good days'. Like her being 'depressed' became the norm and the alternative became the outlier

Every time I bring her in it becomes about her thyroid. Like, she has hyperthyroidism, she needs to go on a medication. Great, but she's not eating, can we do something about that? But her thyroid is doing good on her medication. Great, but she's not eating, can we do something about that? We did an ultrasound and didn't find anything. Great! She's not eating! Can we do something about that!

And well, maybe if she does well on the raw for a bit and gets back to a healthy weight, that will be data we can use to figure out what the problem is. But I can't just stand around and watch her fade away anymore. Maybe raw has risks and isn't vet-recommended and maybe I'll get scolded for putting her on it, but she'll eat it. I've tried so many commercial foods -- she did pretty well on her medicated food for quite a while -- but I'm out of options there. She does not care about her commercial foods, and I have to cajole her to eat enough of it, hand-feeding her individual pieces and even then she doesn't eat all of it.

I don't know! I just want to do what's best for her, but I don't really know what that is. She's done well on raw before, and got passing marks from her vets at the time, so I must not do too terribly in putting her meals together. And she's eating, and she's excited to eat. I hope it's enough.

So yesterday I got about four hours of sleep and today I got about six hours of sleep, so when ash cancelled today's recording due to migraine on his part and a developing canker sore on mine, I put myself back into bed and took a three hour nap. It's a very gloomy day, so I honestly could have just kept sleeping forever, but I figured 3 was a good time to be getting up again

I am hyperfocusing on Japanese a little, and trying very hard to not burn myself out on it before class even starts. But I'm getting some nice-looking stats on my learning platforms

I am running around ESO collecting mats, but I hear ash has gotten up from his own nap so in a little bit I'll probably go see what he's going to spend the rest of his afternoon on

Just spent an entire hour breaking beef kidney and spleen down into more manageable portions, and I've started adding them to Oz's meals. She's getting both with every meal for now but soon I'll be alternating them. I imagine it'll be a bit before she deigns to eat them, like she did with the liver (which she's still only doing on some days and not others), but hopefully she does soon

I also gave her an egg today for a snack

Spent $110 on not very many groceries today, really feeling that inflation

We witnessed a screaming match at the store while we were checking out -- a woman got caught shoplifting for apparently the fourth time by filling her bag with items and then buying one (1) of them at the self check-out. And man, if you get caught shoplifting, you can't go back to that same store to do more shoplifting. So she yelled at the employee who caught her, demanding to see the manager, right up until the manager was on his way to the front at which point she suddenly had to go

I'm gonna chill for bit and eat some food, then try to get some more sleep. Ideally I will wake up with time and energy to take a shower and to play a board/card game with ash, we'll see how the nap goes
