I do not use wrist rests but I did not know this and after Googling it the internet appears incredibly divisive and angry about it, which checks out

B/c something I've found is that if I am having a really rough day, then wearing a brace that has a metal bar on the bottom, and also using a wrist rest is really helpful. I don't use wrist rests if I have just my hands, but if I've got the metal bar in place, sometimes it is so nice to be able to have something to lean on while mousing.

Re: Promiseland
Class done! A few notable things happened in it, but to start with we did over an hour of just going over the homework that was due yesterday, having each person read two of their answers. At mine I got a 'We're going to stay on Michael's homework for a minute because his handwriting is so good', and a few other compliments on my handwriting, which was very nice! Further down the list of students we got someone who, uh. I'll just say there hasn't been any indication so far that he's particularly far along in his studies, is still struggling with some of the basic things as far as I've noticed? And we get to his work and it is, full of kanji and the teacher goes quiet for a minute reading it over and then asks him to stay after class and points out that he's using だ instead of です which is some more advanced sentence construction,
Like I don't want to say he google translated his answers but, like.
(Also just to say that that guy who has been struggling whom I've been rooting for has improved and I'm very happy for him)
Anyway, we get further along and there's a bit in the homework where we're supposed to form negative constructions which can be done in a few different ways as explained by the textbook, but as we were going along I realised that the header on the homework has one of them in specific -- I don't read the headers! So I missed that! And just practiced all of the negatives, first one each and then sort of at random for whichever I felt like using? Anyway I spent a while deciding if I was going to apologise and explain myself in a comment on the homework file or if I was going to stay after class and explain myself in ""person"", but then we sort of wrapped around and I got called on again right in the middle of those questions. I explained and the teacher said that was fine because it is in the textbook, so that worked out.
After we finally finished going through all of the questions, the teacher pulled up another exercise where the tape/book described an item and we had to pick out which item was described in a list (like the list has two bicycles, one of which is ¥50,000 and the other is ¥8,000, and the exercise is like "This is my bike, it's expensive"; or the list has two hats, one of which has a "¥" symbol on it and the other has the New York Yankee's symbol on it and the tape is like "This is a New York Yankees hat". One of them was a pair of Nike's and a pair of heels and the tape was like "These shoes are not Italian. These shoes are American" which was, uh. I mean I guess?)
Then we just went down Chapter 3's vocabulary list and then we got let out. There's a quiz on Wednesday, another flashcard homework and a couple pages of the workbook due on Sunday, and then next week is spring break
After class I medicated the cat, sprayed my roses for aphids (they're all looking very nice!), and took a ten minute walk around the pool, and now I'm going to take a look at the homework pages and maybe start working on the flashcards but I also might, not, do that. I do need to eat a lunch before anything else, I think, might steal a leftover pie if there still are any. ash made meat pies with mushroom puree last night and they're very good
Oh shoot I need to vote

I am Not A Doctor, but this is my understanding of the issue through a lot of research and some personal experience:
In the vast majority of cases, wrist rests do not provide any significant ergonomic benefit and in fact will usually increase the number of risk factors for injury in your computer workstation. The reason is that if you ‘rest’ your ‘wrist’ on any type of support, be it foam, gel, webbing, cloth, etc. you are applying pressure to the underside of your wrist which will compress the tissues, resulting in decreased blood flow. More specifically, you can compress the carpal tunnel and possibly pinch the median nerve, which can lead not only to long term injury, but short term symptoms such as tingling, numbness or coldness in the hands, and finger muscles which fatigue quicker due to reduced circulation.
I believe if you're specifically resting your palm and not your wrist on the wrist-rest there's less risk, but it's also going to be hard to set that up so that you're doing that without bending your wrists, which is itself an issue. If you've got pressure on your wrist while you're typing, you're compressing your carpal tunnel and potentially causing damage
(This is similar to the issue with typing while resting your elbows/forearms on something, you're compressing your ulnar nerve)
