All workbook pages done, just got to do the flashcards now. Going to work on that tomorrow between getting ready for Sor visit, but it's possible I'll still be doing it while they're here. For tonight I'm going to get some picking up done and then go to bed, so I can be not useless tomorrow

Incidentally last class or the class before, the professor mentioned having removed some students from the class for lack of attendance/participation and that student who probably cheated on his homework is indeed not in the class anymore.

It in fact appears that he's the only student who's been dropped from the class recently

I have a Sor!

I went to bed at, uh, a little later than I should have but it was not super reasonable of me to expect myself to get up early on a rainy day in the middle of a season change, so I was responsible and let Sor know that I wouldn't be able to meet them halfway from the airport (already a compromise from meeting them at the airport) but would go meet them at the station here with an umbrella. Then I went to sleep, with my curtains open and having taken a melatonin so that I would get immediate deep sleep and then get woken up with the sun, which resulted in waking up at about 6 after about 4 hours of sleep. Recently decisions to get a few more hours of sleep when something like that happens have been disastrous, so I just stayed awake until ten-ish when it was time to go meet Sor's train. That mostly went off without a hitch, or more like the usual and expected number of hitches when dealing with public transit.

Since it is rainy we've been hanging out in my room all day; tomorrow it is supposed to rain less so we will hopefully be able to go out to the store and get some groceries to keep ourselves fed over the visit, and then the week is supposed to have beautiful low-mid-seventies weather so we'll go out and do stuff then. But we ate a bit, watched some youtube, watched some dropout, played some Overcooked, made and ate pancakes, watched some dropout, played PlateUp!, and now Sor is taking a nap. When they wake up we'll decide if we're up for a bit longer or if we'll just go ahead and go to bed.

Cael has been handling the guest well! He was nervous at first but quickly got used to another person being around and now has not had any particular change in his mood or behaviour. Oz knows Sor so after a brief 'what the fuck is happening' she has also calmed down and is behaving largely normally, though it's thrown off her appetite and she's barely eaten today.

I also did get my homework done somewhere in there. I have an Arcadia intro/outro I need to record and I need to write up the chore list, but other than that I'm good on responsibilities.

Today we woke up, ate breakfast, and then took the train and my shopping basket to a local grocery store, then to the nearby chain store to get whatever we couldn't get at the local store. It was ridiculously expensive for what we got, but we have food and snacks for the week! Then we got home, put it all away by which I mean just kind of piled most of it in the corner, watched another Total Forgiveness, ate a bunch of snack foods (including some crackers and cheese featuring a candied-lemon-stilton and an aged whiskey cheddar) and played a bunch of PlateUp!, until it became time to go bother ash while he made dinner. Then we ate dinner while watching the most recent two Taskmasters

I also got some butterfingers, for the first time since learning they're not nestle anymore! They are in fact not nestle!! The new recipe is a little nuttier than the originals and a little less flaky, but it's delicious and I'm very glad I can eat my favourite candy bar again.

Sor is now replying to emails and writing daily words, and I'm going to do my daily games (wordle, murdle, connections, lingule) and then we'll watch things or play games or something. Tomorrow I have class, but then we'll probably go out for lunch or something. I'd like to do the underground tour with them, and see about going to the zoo or the dinky local amusement park, but probably not those on class days.

So really soon after class started, this comes in the discord:

1.png

This is a guy who has never said anything in class, aside from when roll's being taken. He'll get called on and he's just gone, dead silent at any other point in the class.

2.png
3.png

Like my dude.

Apparently she took him off the digital roster but still had him on her paper roster because she did accidentally call on him once class had started and someone else goes 'He says he was dropped from the class' and she goes 'Oh yeah, he was dropped for non-participation'

4.png

Like my dude, there is more to class than role call, I don't know what to tell you

5.png

Please do! Maybe they can help you get your shit together!

Anyway, so at the beginning of class vibes were rancid, I guess a bunch of people were suddenly paranoid that they'd get dropped, too. But you remember last time when I said she had said she was going to start dropping students for exactly this reason? That was prompted by exactly this guy failing to respond to the teacher calling on him and then claiming his microphone doesn't work. And she said, explicitly, that if you haven't participated in class she's required to drop you by, as it happens, this particular week, because this is the last week you can drop classes without penalty. So, he continued to not participate, apparently does not do his homework, and so the teacher dropped him! Just participate! Pay enough attention to know what she's asking you about and respond when she calls on you!

Anyway suddenly this class we had way more volunteers for exercises -- for the first half. After break we were back to status quo.

But we did some practice saying things do or don't exist, and a breakout room where we practised asking/saying what we're doing this week, which went alright. Then some practice saying where things are in relation to other things ("猫はテレビのうしろです。/ 猫はテレビのうしろがいます" (neko wa terebi no ushiro desu/neko wa terebi no ushiro ga imasu) - the cat is behind the TV (/the cat exists behind the TV), another breakout room in which most every student was an active participant??? A complete shock! And then a guessing game where we tried to guess the number another student was thinking of, basically. That went until the very end of class time, which I think is a first, I don't think we've had a completely full day before.

So! I have I think another five pages of homework and if I don't get more homework assigned I can probably get it done the day Sor leaves but if I get more assignments in I should do some of it while they're here. But for now we're going to eat lunch and then go out exploring somewhere, I'm not sure where or what we'll do.
