Re: Promiseland
In fact the only assignments remaining on the 'potential homework' list are kanji practice pages

Re: Promiseland
It says a lot that I can watch each episode of Dungeon Meshi three times and still find it entertaining and engaging (And get something new out of it each time I watch it (Shuro, from a very ask-culture culture, easily picks up on what Kabru is saying-without-saying! It's very funny how Chilchuck reprimands Marcille for panicking and then immediately freaks out himself! The way the change in how pronouns were translated between the dubs and the subs for this line is neat!))

Re: Promiseland
I choose to believe Kabru gets more gruff in the fight scene but I still don't understand enough Japanese to be able to say

Re: Promiseland
The subtitles are consistently calling the antagonist "the lunatic magician", while every other English translation I've seen uses "the mad mage", which is also interesting. I believe people usually try to keep names and titles consistent, so I wonder why this is different

Re: Promiseland
Class done! We had ten students attending today, four of them (including me) were willing to participate and three more were willing to participate if forced to. Honestly it went better than when the class is bigger because there was less expectation, I guess? And less calling on people who wouldn't respond. And, I guess possibly people felt more obligation to respond because there were fewer people to hide behind
Immediately after role we got dropped into breakout rooms where we were supposed to ask/answer questions applying adjectives in their pre-noun form to nouns, I got one person who never unmuted (I think he wasn't actually there at all during the class, just set up his computer or phone to look like he was attending) and one person who barely unmuted. We sat in silence for a bit, I tried prompting with one of the questions, got an answer, and then we sat in silence for the rest of the exercise. I really didn't feel like trying to force people to participate, nor being the only one putting effort in, so
We came back to the main room, did a little bit of review of that, and then did some ask/answer for 'Do you like x?' 'Yes, I like x/No, I dislike x', then break, then another breakout room where we did that again. This time I got The One Other Student Who Likes To Participate in my group, plus one other person who generally participates but is less gung-ho about it, so that one went well. We just asked 'What kind of x [sports, food, music, etc] do you like?', finished it up with a couple minutes left, and just kind of chatted a little until the breakout ended. Then we reviewed it with the whole class
After that we went over a powerpoint about different festivals in Japan, went over definitions/readings/mnemonics for the chapter 5 kanji, and then class ended. One more class on Wednesday where we'll review things, and then the final on Monday
Naturally my focus for the week is going to be on studying, but the final exists as an assignment in canvas now so I can actually calculate what my grade would be based on how well I do on it, and even if I got every single question wrong I'd still get a B, so I'm not stressed. Still, I'd like to do well, of course, so. I need to cram all the vocabulary lists, I need to cement conjugations, and I need to study the kanji, and I think that will cover about everything.
I've also done today's gardening -- I trimmed the Joseph's Coat a bit to try to get it to grow into a less weird shape, cleaned up some of the trimmings around the pool from the work ash did yesterday, and watered. Today I want to get some work done on ash's keyboard, and I should do that insurance paperwork (it needs to be in the mail by friday). And I need to shower. But before all that, lunch
