We've been having some issues with our freezer of late, things left in certain parts of it just aren't, uh, freezing. Next troubleshooting step is replacing the seal, which ash is going to look into doing when he's able, so hopefully that fixes it because I think the step after that is full-on hiring a repair service or replacing the entire unit, which we aren't going to be able to afford for a long while.

I've got a large tub of ice cream that I've been keeping in the chest freezer because I don't want it melting in the house freezer, but keeping it in there makes it too frozen to be able to scoop, so earlier tonight I put it in the house freezer to thaw it and ain't that kind of fucked up? Anyway yeah, just made myself a rootbeer float and it's pretty soft, so that gives some idea of the freezer issue, if stuff is thawing that fast in it. The particularly annoying thing is that I had some meat in there that I was going to cook at some point, because it was got for Oz before we switched her back off of raw, but obviously it's not going to be safe to eat so I'll have to throw it out. If this has been going on for longer than we thought, I bet that's why Oz started refusing the raw food randomly, as I recall it was specifically food that had been stored in that freezer and not food that hadn't had a chance to need to be frozen there. I know we were having some issues with dinner meats going off surprisingly fast for a while, I wonder if any of it was getting stored in that freezer.

Anyway! It'll get fixed soon or it'll get fixed later, there's not much to do about it until then either way. It is annoying to have to preplan when I want ice cream, and I'll need to be careful what I keep in there, but I don't think pizza bites are gonna be super affected by the problem aside from a decrease in general quality

In Alex Jones news, he:
a. Is moving assets into a new store that totally has nothing to do with Info Wars and is run by his dad
b. Is back to spreading Sandy Hook conspiracy theories

Truly there is no consequence that will ever stop him, he's going to keep doing this until he's dead

Finished the Ghost Hunters Adventure Club book. It is very, very like A Series of Unfortunate Events, but less overtly tragic, much less child abuse, and if Lemony Snicket were instead a bitter old man with a heart of gold and a specific focus on writing advice and mechanics rather than puns and witticisms. It's also very much a book for younger readers, so the writing style and plot are easy fare - if I'd read this in middle school I think I would have loved it.

As a mystery it works, though some of the absurdist humour would prevent you from properly working out the clues on your own, and the mystery is solved exactly halfway through the book at which point there is a second, greater and more action-oriented mystery. I would give the plot a pretty solid three out of five - I wasn't bored at any point but I was never on the edge of my seat, either. But, again, this is for young teenagers and one of those I am not.

I will probably go ahead and give the first one a try, and if they come out with a third I am very curious how they'll square that with the end of the second so I'll definitely read it.

Having read it, is it any more clear why the main marketing strategy for the book is having Arin Hanson of Game Grumps wear a wig, pretend to be the author, and cynically berate the audience? No.

For what it's worth, after doing research into what replacing the seals would take and cost, I've accepted it's time to get a new fridge/freezer, rather than fuck about with this one. I've also accepted that the rate at which are food is spoiling means that it needs to happen sooner rather than later, which will save us money and potentially prevent food poisoning.

So, that'll get done this weekend. Though they probably won't be able to deliver it till mid next week
