Re: The Cracked Mug v 2.0
Gonna try to draw during D&D! Saying it out loud so I actually try and don't just refresh feeds in-between turns

Trying out something new, WIP since this one's gonna take me a while
it's forecasted to be a beautiful Memorial Day weekend in Chicago and I work as a death investigator for every day of it
Vampire Hunter D Volume 6: Pilgrimage of the Sacred and the Profane by Hideyuki Kikuchi
Three stars
I'm conflicted on this one!
The plot: A++ great, in this one D is set to travel across a dangerous and sentient desert! That is as cool as it sounds! We also get a few more breadcrumbs of D Backstory and some interesting interactions between him and the other characters:
In the last third of the book it's revealed Tae is pregnant with a dhampir; it's implied to potentially be D's half-brother, and he is conflicted but ultimately kind about this. He even reassures her by saying something to the effect that dhampir children are thoughtful and not too difficult to take care of. Tae is a young mother on top of being pregnant with one of that society's most hated creatures, so one of those same creatures going "well we are very polite and self-sufficient" was genuinely sweet.
The characters: hit-or-miss; the two brothers could've just been combined into one brother, Granny Viper was The Fuckin' Best, Tae was--- fine I guess, and Lance was a Good Lad (tm)
My big conflict (I have minor conflicts too, like character motivations and some plot stuff being a bit muddy) is this is one where the overall quality is dragged down by just, Unnecessary Rapist Character. One of the brothers that travels with D openly talks about how if it weren't for Granny Viper protecting her, he would sexually assault Tae. Then the millisecond he's alone with her, even though they definitely have way bigger things to worry about (like the sentient desert trying to murder them to death), he gropes her. Granny Viper appears to interrupt and whips the shit out of him, but like, Kikuchi-san can we please Not????

Also I have officially started the last of the available omnibus books; the next omnibus isn't published until December of this year, and since I doubt I'll wanna wait that long I'll have to start buying individual novels. This is fine, just slightly less convenient. I'll have to browse for a good used book place online and see if I can get a bunch of 'em for cheap.

Do you have any opinions about reading ebooks? If you don't mind them you could probably get these next books through a library app! I started using libby a while ago and it's been so convenient (you could also just borrow physical books from a physical library, I guess, but I assume you have a reason to not do that if you haven't)
I don't want to be suggesting the obvious to you or anything, I just know I often forget things like that are an option

I like ebooks! Normally that would be my route and I'd libby it or library it (the Chicago public library system is very handy and robust!) but in this case I want to own and keep the books as I go along. The physical copies are in general something I'd like to have, but also contain the original illustrations from Yoshitaka Amano, which I think is hit-or-miss as far as whether an ebook includes it or includes it in a way that's pleasant to view.
