Looking at Yoshitaka illustrations made me think of D's character design in general and one of my favorite things is how various artists will try to stay true to the character but also spice up his silhouette/details, since canonically all we get of D is:
ethereally beautiful
wide-brimmed traveler's hat
wears a blue pendant
wears all black
big cloak
long sword
Since the Yoshitaka illustrations are essentially D canon a few things he standardized but that aren't in the original novels tend to stay in the character's design, such as the -- I'm actually not sure what's on his hat, but the little pendant/embellishment on his hat is fairly consistent, for instance.
but critically in the Saiko Takaki manga he sometimes has a striped scarf (it's borderline just Zebra print, tbh) and it's my professional opinion this should be canon forever:
I also have strong opinions about D having curly hair, in that he should, although that's more a Bloodlust and post-Bloodlust design change. I just think it's cute when tough guy characters have curly hair!

anyway I guess that's enough infodumping about my niche interest for now, tune in later for more Vampire Hunter D Thoughts and Facts with Erika: Man I Love This Weirdo
