I'm pretty curious actually how everyone is doing in general because like,

Screenshot 2024-10-17 at 01-01-48.png

I don't think I'm doing super particularly well or anything so I assume that most people in the class are also coasting on high As, maybe high Bs? But I dunno maybe I am doing kind of exceptionally! This sort of class does hit a convergence of several things that I'm just good at, mostly that everything we're learning and being tested on has a right answer, without being math. I'm not having to write any persuasive essays or anything.

But again I just always assume that since that sort of stuff is easy for me that it's easy for everyone. You just put down the correct answer and you get the points. And as noted the professor can be pretty lenient about her grading, I've had her correct things on several assignments without docking points

Obviously I can't just ask people what their grades are, especially in a context of "Hey I'm finding all this pretty easy, how about you?". But I'd love to just know like, what kind of percentile I'm in here or something.

Also yeah we're going to have to write and perform a skit as part of our final and I am Not looking forward to it. Also also we're going to be doing that in pairs, which means Someone is going to have to work with Disruptive Student and 😬. Cross fingers and touch wood it's not me -- I think I'm on pretty friendly terms with some of my classmates so hopefully I can pair off with someone before ending up a picked-last outcast.

Midterm taken, 42/60 but there were a lot of questions that could be correct but not the answer the system was expecting (like 'translate this sentence' can be translated correctly a few different ways, or she could be expecting people to put spaces between words and I didn't, or I could have used kanji where she was expecting most people to spell out hiragana, etc). So we'll see if that grade changes after she reviews it

Uuuuuuugh I did not get one of Oz's vet bills paid off fast enough and now I'm getting hit by carecredit's predatory interest rates. I need to focus on paying that off and putting a stop to it as fast as possible. Thankfully I finished paying Erik back this month so that's a bit that can go to that card instead, and other cards are just going to have to take a hit.

I thought I had that, but carecredit makes it really, really hard to keep track of what you owe and when

Alright! What have I been up to lately

Honestly a lot of video games -- I started playing dothack again, you may recall that I'd previously gotten to the final boss of the game but wasn't high enough level to beat it, so was going to go back and grind until I could. However that was before the steamdeck, so I don't have that save file anymore and had to start completely over (again). I'm finally doing that! I'm maybe halfway through it now

Finally got Kuukiyomi (Consider It) to play with ash, which I've been wanting to do for forever. It is like warioware (sudden, abrupt minigames where you need to figure out what you're supposed to do and then do it very quickly before it moves on to the next minigame) where the premise is it puts you in a situation and you need to do the considerate thing (like, you're sitting on a train and a couple shows up but there's no seats together for them to take -- the considerate thing is to move so they can sit together!). On top of all that, it is very Japanese and several of the scenarios are based on cultural things that, as americans, ash and I just do not understand. You can also be a complete gremlin and be as inconsiderate as possible, if you want. It's very fun and very funny -- doesn't have a huge amount of replay value, but it's worth five bucks and there are sequels to it.

A new Daiso has just opened up in the city, so ash and I are going to go there tomorrow and then to a dollar tree, to pick up halloween decorations. Then we'll decorate a little, and probably do more decorating somewhere in the week. I want to get a pumpkin to carve again, too, at some point a bit closer to the holiday.

The temperature at night has had a very sharp drop and I've had to pile some more blankets onto my bed. It's still pretty warm during the day, but not oppressively so. The cold has not been great for my joints and has made sleep a little difficult, but I don't want to full-out winterize my room yet. I do will throw some more, more blankets onto my bed after I wash them on Monday

My mouth sore is finally starting to heal, but annoyingly most of my treatment methods are re-opening it, so I'm going to try being more gentle with it for a while. ash got me some chamomile tea which is supposed to promote healing or something? So I'm drinking that. But it was very, very painful for a while so I kind of, retreated a little into disassociation for a bit there.

Oh, ash and I also started the Claire playthrough of RE2 a while back, we're pretty close to the end again. Just got into the underground lab today (and then died, so will have to do that again tomorrow). It is very interesting how they handled the two perspectives for the game, and I am enjoying the second playthrough more than I did the first.

Alright! Gonna go play video games and watch youtube, and then go to bed early so we can go out in the morning(ish) instead of the late afternoon

So we went to the daiso! First we went to the new one, and we saw that there was a line of a couple dozen people waiting to get in, and we were like, we do not want a free goodie bag that badly, so instead we went to the one we'd gone to before and wandered around for a while and bought some halloween decorations and some snacks and a couple of house items. We did not go to dollar tree afterwards, because ash had a headache and I was getting hungry and tired of wearing a mask, so instead we got mexican food and went home.

Once home, I watched youtube (and nebula) and played video games for a while, and then I took a nap for an hour or two, with Oz. After that, ash and I watched that Markiplier series that's on Amazon -- Edge of Sleep. It's based on a podcast he did? I knew basically nothing about it a week ago, but there's some kind of deal going on with amazon where they won't release the Iron Lung movie Markiplier made -- that is completely finished and ready for release -- unless this series gets good ratings, so there's a push for people to watch it to push the ratings up. They also released it three days earlier than planned without telling anyone? And apparently just kind of shrugged and claimed it was an accident when Markiplier asked about that? So that's weird.

Anyway it is... it has potential! The writing and acting are not great and they definitely needed more consultants and/or research into the stuff they wanted to put in there, but it's fine. It's a fine show. It does not end, though, and I don't know if there's even plans for another season? Or if the podcast has a proper ending? I really need media to just tell me if it's not going to end before I go into it, it's so annoying to get blindsided by that.

That said, good for him (and everyone working on it with him) for getting it made! It's neat to see him on like, a real not-made-for-youtube show, and my understanding is that the intent is to get Iron Lung in theaters. (I have higher hopes for Iron Lung being good than Edge of Sleep, but I don't have much to base that on except for vibes of the original material).

I am going to chill for the rest of the night. Tomorrow will be a study day, review everything I've learned so far and preview chapter 9's content, plus some chores like laundry.

It was not particles, I forgot to conjugate a sentence into past-tense (put "δ»Šζœγ€δ½•γ‹ι£ŸγΉγΎγ™γ‹" instead of "δ»Šζœγ€δ½•γ‹ι£ŸγΉγΎγ—γŸγ‹" for "Did you eat anything this morning?")
