Bad pain day and pretty braindead. But Dave got me Satisfactory a couple days ago and we played it for a few hours last night. This is another one that's not super my thing single-player but I'm having fun with it multiplayer -- I just don't really care for that kind of logistics, but I'm enjoying finding resources that Dave can turn into a production line.
I also played through Paradise Killer a few days ago -- it's fun but I'm a little eh on the ending. And now I'm playing Shadows of Doubt, which took me a while to get into but now I'm really enjoying. ash and I have also been playing it together a bit, and That's Not My Neighbor, which is like an anomaly-finding version of Papers Please (without any important time-based mechanics).
I got a Pimsleur subscription last week and have been doing that every day for Japanese. I was doing the Irish course at the same time but fell off it pretty fast -- apparently the Irish taught in the Pimsleur course is the Munster dialect, which was a surprise. It's not what's usually taught, and it's just different enough from what I've already learned to throw me off (and also I just don't like how the Munster dialect sounds as much as I think it's the Connacht dialect that I've learned bits of). I plan on digging back into that when I have more brain to spare.
Planning on going to dad's on Tuesday, the past couple of scheduled trips up there have fallen through but this week the weather is supposed to be nice. My plan, ideally, is to ride my bike all or most of the way there -- it should take about the same amount of time as it takes to public transit and I can take the path along the river for most of it. Once I get up into Citrus Heights I might jump on a bus just to avoid biking on busy six-lane "streets", but I might be able to stick to neighbourhood streets and just walk it when I need to get past dangerous-for-biking areas.
I got fancy fake nails last week
and removed them specifically to go to dad's and then didn't end up going to dad's, so now I have to wait until after tuesday to put them on again. I'd planned on swinging by a store today to get nail glue and more polish remover but the pain has prevented that, but I also still have some of the press-on sheets that the seller sent with the nails, so I can just use those again. After dad's.
I think that's about what's going on lately. This week was spring break and I wanted to get ahead on classwork but did not manage it, so next week I need to get back on things.
blah blah blah republicans are mad at a trans musician yadda yadda
Looked up her music and now I've got some albums to buy later
Went to dad's! Google said I could make it there by bike in an hour and a half and I figured I was safe since I'd be riding the e-bike and not an analogue bike. Google was wrong! Left at about 2 and got there at about 4:30, so ended up not able to spend much time there. I did also get a little lost at one point and also dropped the bike down a hill while trying to walk it down. Also accidentally ran a red light because it turned yellow just after I entered the intersection and nearly got hit by two different cars who didn't make sure the intersection was clear before they started going. Still entirely my fault and I'm glad I didn't actually get hit.
Yeah so. Made it to dad's in one piece. It was a very nice bike ride, the parts that were on the trail especially. It took some getting to the trail, though, including on a lot of gravel and I think I can skip that part in future by taking the train to butterfield, which is about where I came out. I did find riding on busy 10-lane streets actually less stressful than riding neighbourhood streets in some ways, because everyone involved there knows exactly what they're supposed to be doing, as opposed to every time I have to stop at a stop sign in a neighbourhood and figure out who's actually going to take their turn and who's going to insist I go ahead of them (and if everyone else stopped at the intersection agrees with that). Also a great thing about being on a bike is that I can just become a pedestrian at any moment, so I can just wait at a crosswalk if I don't feel like dealing with an intersection.
An interesting thing that I've noticed about riding an e-bike in particular is that drivers often get offended if a bike is going faster than them and will try to pass regardless of how safe that is.
But yeah. Hung out with dad for about twenty minutes, I think. I picked up a privacy screen -- he has a bunch of traditional japanese ones laying around and I thought if I put one next to my bed between where Oz eats and the door, it would stop Cael from bothering her; I also might grab one of the bigger ones for recording quality purposes, can make a miniature sound-dampened room -- and also got the hat I left there in december. He is doing okay though he's started drinking again and the AA meetings he's going to are uh, not therapeutic? Apparently they just watch TV for two hours and then leave. So, so much for that helping.
ash picked me up and we came home and I sat down for a while -- something that I have learned from the heart-rate tracker thing is that once my heart-rate gets up into my 'exertion zone' it takes forever for it to come back down, and I'd been biking for, you know, two and a half hours, so. While I was sitting around I did put the claw nails back on. I did a better job this time so we'll see how long they stick
We had dinner, we watched some youtube (Taskmaster and part of a Lily Simpson video we'll finish later), ash went to bed and I played Satisfactory with Dave. We went straight to 1 AM and have a bit more automation happening -- I have been doing research, somewhat to Dave's annoyance (it takes resources that could arguably be better used to different purposes), but I've also been running power out to mining nodes and conveyor belts back to the hub from them. I also found a cave that's blocked off by boulders so next time we will probably blow that open.
Alright! I'm going to go get the cat and let the other cats out, and then probably watch youtube or something for a bit and then go to bed.
oops
discord updated and I really just can't bring myself to care about this one
If anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about:
