I've tested negative for covid, but my throat looks terrible and I feel pretty bad. It could be allergies but I'm going to operate on the assumption that I'm sick

Took the bike out to get donuts! We live very close to a very good donut shop and I always want to go there more often but never do. So I'm trying to change that! And take the bike out more often, especially now that the weather is nicer

The bike did handle a little weird, might need to put more air in the tires. Also really should take it in for a tune up like I keep meaning to.

Daiso today! I think I mentioned at the time but a while back Ivy started jumping over the fence around my rosebushes, so we've been planning on building a better barrier, and Daiso has cheap garden supplies. We still plan on something else more long-term but in the short-term we're going to put up some stakes and wrap some cheap fence material around them. While there I also got some replacement awning material, as my sun-shade doesn't work anymore, also mentioned. I'd planned on going to a thrift store and looking for some sheets to use but this will hopefully be better!

We also hit up the grocery store -- stocked up on mountain dew again because there's a decent sale going, and I was on my last box. I have been drinking too much lately but as I keep saying, have you seen the state of the world? I also got some sunflower butter to try -- it's supposed to be healthier than peanut butter and I figure why not give it a shot? Unfortunately because it's intended to be a "healthy" option, it is unsweetened, and my opinion is that it really, really needs sweetening. I also got a "natural" peanut butter to try -- I've tried things like that before and was annoyed that it also didn't include emulsifiers so the oil tended to separate very badly, but this one still has the emulsifiers so maybe it'll work for me.

And I grabbed some cara cara and blood oranges again.

At home I played PlateUp with Erika and Dave -- we're also doing a pub! I honestly really, really like that mod, it's fantastically balanced and I really enjoy the new mechanics it introduces. We ended up with a bar that serves miso soup and three kinds of beer, which you can optionally have served with a single floret of boiled broccoli sticking out of it like a little umbrella. We played for I think a little under three hours, got a day into overtime, and then Erika wandered off to go to bed and I wandered off to hang out with ash.

Now I'm chilling in my room. I've been playing Pathologic 2 finally and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It does feel very strange to be playing the Haruspex before playing the Bachelor, but that's the intended experience now I guess. I have been thinking that there is something to -- so part of the reason why you were supposed to do Bachelor first in the original Pathologic is that Dankovsky is an outsider to the town, as you are on your first playthrough. And then Burakh is originally from that town, so you're playing his route when you're more familiar with the setting. So it fits in a way that helps you mesh with the mindsets of the characters.

Now, if you're playing Pathologic 2 after playing 1 -- which is not going to be everybody, nor indeed probably most people, but if you are one of them, or if you're someone coming to Pathologic 2 after having, say, watched a two hour long youtube video detailing the entire plot of Pathologic 1 -- the thing about the Haruspex is that it's not just that he's originally from the town, but that he's returning to the town after spending someodd years away from it and discovering that it's changed in such a way that while some things are familiar, a lot is strange. I probably don't need to spell out the parallel there.

I still would rather be playing the Bachelor route, but I'm not hating it.

Alright, I have not been getting quite enough sleep, so I'm going to go chill some more and then go to bed. I want to do yard work tomorrow, and I really need to dig into this week's linguistics work.

Yeah woke up at like 6 feeling awful, felt moderately better after some more sleep but still not great. Today is one of those days where standing up and walking across the room raises my heart rate to 120-130 bpm. So today I spent most of the day in bed, playing more Pathologic. I have started cheating on that, though not excessively. Pathologic is just one of those games that's super easy to get yourself into an unwinnable situation in, so when that happens I'm giving myself a little boost to get out of that situation. Spawning a bread, like. I could be fudging with the difficulty settings to make it easier on myself and I probably will on a second playthrough when I have a good idea of what all needs to be fudged but for now this will work.

Rose and &c arrived! It's in extremely good condition and I'm excited to get it into the ground, though that didn't happen today obviously. I did unpack everything and give the rose some water, and I mixed up the pest-deterrent into a spray bottle and sprayed all my current roses down so hopefully there's less aphids on them in the future.

Watched an Um Actually and then a Dragula with ash, then he went to bed and now I'm horizontal in my room again. Going to do more video games and hope tomorrow I feel well enough to work on linguistics. Definitely going to be an early night again.

The reclassification of animals in pachydermata appears to have happened around the 1800s (though I'm having a lot of trouble getting actual information on when it became obsolete) so I think that tumblr post is just, wrong. "Pachyderm" is still a commonly used term (doing an internet search brings up loads of results of, frex, news articles about zoo animals in the 2020s), usually for an elephant but sometimes for other 'thick-skinned' animals, apparently. It's just a synonym now, like you might call a horse an 'equine' without necessarily intending to refer to the entire taxonomic family
