Today ash and I went to a Mediterranean Food & Music festival, being held as a fundraiser for a Palestinian/Jordanian Orthodox church. We didn't really know what to expect or how big it would be, and it turned out to be pretty modestly sized -- I think like four souvenir stalls, two food stalls, and a general cooking area. They also were using an exclusively token-based economy so the first thing we had to do was get in line at the ordering stall to order food, where they gave me tokens for said food and put our order in. Not the most efficient system, but if they're trying to keep track of everyone's raised funds I get it. Anyway, we got food (I got a spiral potato, it was delicious but the spices were a bit much for me when we had a tiny $2 bottle of water to share between us (we could have gotten back in line for more tokens but eh)). We looked around, I learned a little bit about knafe (Palestinian cheese dessert) during a brief period where the very loud music wasn't playing, and then we left to go to the grocery store. A decent way to spend a Sunday!
Grocery store, and then home where I dicked around on the internet for a bit and fired Oblivion back up. Then ash and I hung out for dinner, watched a drag queen roast the Met Gala outfits, and then we played 9992 (1458?). Still very much to go in that game! I'm enjoying watching the twists and foreshadowing play out, knowing where it's all going (unfortunately not The Titanic again)
I turned over the relay torch materials to the host last night and when I woke up around 11 they had passed it on to the next person, which was a little annoying because I wanted to edit it very slightly and had thought that I'd have several hours before it would get looked at, but it's probably not a problem. I woke up at 6 this morning and got onto my computer to fix something and specifically didn't do the editing because I thought I'd have time.
I did also peep at the next person's post history and they seem to have a habit of joining relays and then dropping out when it's their turn, so even on the off-chance they did look thoroughly at my materials before 11 it doesn't really matter. Hell, even if they did look and do complete their leg of the relay it doesn't really matter, because the edit is pretty inconsequential anyway -- just clarifying a grammar point a little.
(It is a grammar point that was really recently decided on and that I need to experiment with and decide on rock-solid rules for, but what's there is fine for use in the relay)
Anyway! I'm very tired and my stomach is a little upset. I've taken a stomach pill, so hopefully it settles. Either way I am going to watch youtube and play video games until bed, now.
Woke up and fed the cat, had breakfast, and then went back to sleep for a while. Woke up again, played Oblivion until dinner, and then ash and I watched Stepford Wives (2004) while we ate. I got shrimp fried rice, and it was bafflingly and completely unseasoned. I ended up throwing seasoning on it myself and the result was pretty good, but I would like very much to not have to season the food I get from restaurants myself, it's a quirk I have.
This was neither of our first time watching Stepford Wives (2004), and it is a very fun movie, and also a very bad movie. Apparently it has a low-average score on review sites and that tracks. Also apparently the ending was completely rewritten and re-shot due to producer demands and that also tracks. I got the vibe that Christopher Walken in particular had completely checked out by then. Also apparently there were "tensions" on-set between the director and the stars which is very unfortunate to hear, but again with so much producer interference it's pretty expected.
After that we watched a Coke Francis video about a Nic Cage movie while I put ash's newest keyboard together, and ash decorated the case for it. I wasn't done by the time the video finished, so we watched another couple random youtubes, and then I was done and we went to our bedrooms.
Next person in the relay has confirmed receiving the torch, and I haven't gotten any questions about it so hopefully they are moving along on translating it.
I am going to do more video games, but I'm unsure if I'm going to jump back into Oblivion or if I'm going to poke at something new. I think I will try the something new and then jump ship back to Oblivion if I bounce off
Just watched Cael spend ten minutes1 trying to figure out how to eat a 1 inch piece of shrimp2
He's lucky he's so pretty
1An undercount if anything
2He must have really liked it, he usually gives up and walks away after a few seconds
oOps my torch doesn't explain plurals at all
Oh well
So I'm trying to rotate my sleep back a bit so I can get stuff done during the day before it gets too hot out (as it's going to start doing pretty soon, right now the weather is still largely very nice but this weekend we're set to get to triple digits). Tonight that is not happening due to Games With Dave but last night I went to bed early and then predictably woke up at 5:30 and fell back asleep around 7:30, which is not great. Naturally that means that after I woke up again to feed the cats I went back to sleep until around 2, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid.
Anyway, had breakfast and then I went outside and did my PT exercises for the first time in a while, and walked around the pool also for the first time in a while, and then I took a shower, and all through that I completely forgot that I'd agreed to get dinner prep started for ash before he got home.
So we had spaghetti for dinner and tomorrow I'll do the prep I was supposed to do today. Oops.
ash and I watched a Sagan Hawkes video about the 3D Worker Island, uh, creepypasta? Short story? Unfiction? Thing. And then we playing 9992 and we're getting into the real meat of the story! It's very exciting even if some of the puzzles we had today were honestly kind of phoned in.
Then Games With Dave -- more Satisfactory, I got our current rail lines connected and working and then I made a third train station and connected it to the rail lines and got everything working again. Dave did, uh, some resource management stuff I guess I dunno, but I painted all the train stations pretty colours and colour-coordinated the trains to their home stations :>
Also the trains are named Jeff, Peabody, and Mr. Man and I love that there's no theme or anything. The train stations are Your Ass, My Ass, Mirror Dimension, and Grand Central.
Now it's gotten late but I have to stay up to give Cael a chance to get his energy out a bit, or he'll bother Oz all night. Once he's done it'll be right to bed with me.
Your train names are excellent and I would be happy every time I got to ride one of them and found out which it was.
I want nothing more than to get to eat the edible teacup flower in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
