Welp

Went to vacuum the cat tree in my room, turned the vacuum on, and immediately lost power. The breaker isn't tripped but I tried throwing it a few times anyway and it didn't fix it. So right now I don't have electricity and it's looking like we'll have to get the property managers to send someone over

So aside from fucking up the electricity, today I have:

-Washed the hall rugs
-And the blanket that gets hung over the hall gate
-And the pillows that block off the bottom of the gate
-Vacuumed the traction pads for the rugs
-(incidentally Do Not try to walk on those when they're upside down they are So Slippery, I almost broke my neck like three times)
-Swept the hall
-Mopped the hall
-Wiped down cabinets and doors in the hall
-Simmered a potpourri pot for a while
-Cleaned, dried, and put away the simmer pot
-Tried to vacuum the cat tree

I think that about covers it, aside from picking up some small things here and there. Still need to put the rugs back when they come out of the dryer

Well I'm out of electricity overnight at least. I am worried I/we'll get in trouble for fucking it up

Maintenance request has been put in (despite the portal now having you do so through an LLM which hallucinated an issue with our vent hood), hopefully it gets handled promptly

Okay!

Last night I went to bed around eleven and woke up around five thirty, actually got up around seven, and prepared for electricians while having breakfast and watching Downton Abbey. Yesterday I'd moved a bunch of furniture around, including getting ash to help pull my bed away from the wall, so the electricians would have access to any plugs they'd need, but there were some things (like my dresser) that I had to move today so they wouldn't be in everyone's way all night. So just before 8 I locked ash's animals up behind the hall gate and pulled my dresser out; at 8:30 they messaged they were 20-25 minutes out so at 8:45 I locked Cael up in my bathroom (he's very friendly and it makes me nervous because he's not one of the cats we're supposed to have. Will the electricians tell the property managers about the giant grey cat in our house? Probably not, but I don't like risking it), and at 8:50 on the dot the electricians arrived. Two of them, one of them probably an apprentice under the other

First they went out to check the breaker box, and told me that the design is very user-unfriendly and difficult to tell if a breaker has actually flipped -- he said he can't tell without a tester, and he's a professional -- and while part of the breaker was not operating correctly (he replaced that bit to avoid a future problem), that was not the issue with the electricity in my room, so they came inside and started checking outlets. After determining the range of the outage, he started at one end, popped off the cover, connected a wire, and electricity immediately came back, so he didn't have to move on to any of the others.

He said if you have any new outlets, there is always a broken wire behind them because "they" just get a handiman to do it, and the handiman will just use wirecutters to do the job instead of strippers, and always nicks a wire in the process. This does make me worry about the other outlets, but for now everything is working

And that was it, they left and I went to watch some more TV. I got furniture moved back around enough to not be in anyone's way and for the robot vacuum to be able to leave the guest room, but I haven't really put anything back yet. I'm looking at it as an opportunity to clean the weird places behind furniture that never gets cleaned, so I'll put things back as I have energy to do that. I also have long been considering moving some stuff around in my room and may do that while I'm at it (cat tree to over by the window so the cats can look out it, minifridge to over by the wall where it won't spend all day getting baked by the sun). Also a chance to defrost and clean said minifridge -- though of course by now it has defrosted itself.

Tonight I am doing some laundry -- we've still got a bit of a flea problem, and it seems mostly to be Cael, so this weekend we're going to give him a flea bath and try to get the environment as flea-free as possible. I've vacuumed my cat tree and ash is going to vacuum the other cat trees, and I'm washing my bedding, and hopefully hopefully this can get taken care of.

Also tonight I'm going to catch up on some internet since I haven't used a computer since the day before the power went out. I did also mend a split-open pillow a bit ago -- it's not a pretty mend, but it's closed. But that and laundry is all I'm doing tonight

I Need to remember to try to pay my phone bill again tomorrow, the website won't let me log in for some reason but because I've paid all my other 'beginning of the month' bills that task has been slotted into 'done' in my brain

Paid a bunch of bills and cut a bunch of coupons, waiting for the laundry to finish so I can go to bed

So back in early April I decided to pre-order the Jet Lag Hide & Seek Home Game because I thought it would be fun to adapt it for online play and rope Erika and Dave into playing it with me (more on that in a tick), and then in late May they sent out an update that they had way more pre-orders than they'd expected and the estimated shipping was being pushed back -- for pre-orders made in April, specifically, the orders were "shipping now" but all orders after that were estimated to happen mid-late July

Well! At least I got my order in early-ish, I thought, and I waited. And the rest of May passed, and then most of June passed, and I saw other people's copies getting delivered and I hadn't heard anything from the store, so I thought I'd send a support email just asking for a timeline update (specifically understanding that they are backed up on orders and acknowledging that "now" could mean "before mid-late July" which hadn't happened yet, but still wanting an estimate on when my order might ship if it was possible). That was June 18th

June 30th (almost two weeks later) I got a delivery notification. Today the package arrived. No reply to my support quest at any point, which is the part that irks me a little! Like I said I understand they're busy, but it always feels sneaky for me to send a request asking about when my order will get shipped and then shortly after it magically gets shipped, with no acknowledgement of my request. It also always feels kind of gross when companies blame slow response times on not using AI -- like yes I appreciate you have real humans doing that job and I appreciate that you're not overworking them, but maybe there is a different solution to the problem than threatening to turn to AI for it. Maybe your company is too big! Maybe you need to hire more people!

Like I'm not expecting a same-day response or anything but weeks is kind of ridiculous.

Anyway! It did arrive and I spent today looking it over. My idea is to try playing it in ESO, and I've been quietly mulling over how that would work basically since I ordered it, and when I went through the cards I found a few that needed a little tweaking and eight that need outright replacing. Maps are going to be an issue but I figure we can eyeball it well enough, and I've been working on some graphics to help us do so, as well as make it clear what areas are valid for play and what areas aren't (due to chunks of map being inaccessible to a free-tier player, as I understand it, and Dave is probably not going to subscribe or buy DLC just to jump on this).

Erika has all day next Friday and Saturday, and since ash is going to be out of town by then I am also free, so the plan is somewhere in there. Dave did not actually agree to either of those days but he didn't not agree either so I'm booking him in. That gives me a week to get everything sorted for it

Other things I did today was go shopping -- still unbelievably annoyed at the cost of groceries, even using coupons on basically everything I bought, but at least I have food &c for a while. As mentioned, ash is going out of town for about a week, so I made sure to get stuff to eat while he's gone. Additionally the store had honey mustard pringles! So I got a few cans of that, very excited to not have to get them at walmart

And I did basically nothing else. I opted to rest instead of messing with the minifridge or any other cleaning, but I'll try to get on that tomorrow -- hopefully my joints &c feel alright. Oh, I did take the trash out, so that's something at least.

Alright, it has gotten late so I'm going to head to bed. I've gotten ready already, all I need to do is put the computer away and lay down in the dark, so I'm not as late as I could be -- probably going to make myself later by listening to a podcast before I sleep though.
