So back in early April I decided to pre-order the Jet Lag Hide & Seek Home Game because I thought it would be fun to adapt it for online play and rope Erika and Dave into playing it with me (more on that in a tick), and then in late May they sent out an update that they had way more pre-orders than they'd expected and the estimated shipping was being pushed back -- for pre-orders made in April, specifically, the orders were "shipping now" but all orders after that were estimated to happen mid-late July
Well! At least I got my order in early-ish, I thought, and I waited. And the rest of May passed, and then most of June passed, and I saw other people's copies getting delivered and I hadn't heard anything from the store, so I thought I'd send a support email just asking for a timeline update (specifically understanding that they are backed up on orders and acknowledging that "now" could mean "before mid-late July" which hadn't happened yet, but still wanting an estimate on when my order might ship if it was possible). That was June 18th
June 30th (almost two weeks later) I got a delivery notification. Today the package arrived. No reply to my support quest at any point, which is the part that irks me a little! Like I said I understand they're busy, but it always feels sneaky for me to send a request asking about when my order will get shipped and then shortly after it magically gets shipped, with no acknowledgement of my request. It also always feels kind of gross when companies blame slow response times on not using AI -- like yes I appreciate you have real humans doing that job and I appreciate that you're not overworking them, but maybe there is a different solution to the problem than threatening to turn to AI for it. Maybe your company is too big! Maybe you need to hire more people!
Like I'm not expecting a same-day response or anything but weeks is kind of ridiculous.
Anyway! It did arrive and I spent today looking it over. My idea is to try playing it in ESO, and I've been quietly mulling over how that would work basically since I ordered it, and when I went through the cards I found a few that needed a little tweaking and eight that need outright replacing. Maps are going to be an issue but I figure we can eyeball it well enough, and I've been working on some graphics to help us do so, as well as make it clear what areas are valid for play and what areas aren't (due to chunks of map being inaccessible to a free-tier player, as I understand it, and Dave is probably not going to subscribe or buy DLC just to jump on this).
Erika has all day next Friday and Saturday, and since ash is going to be out of town by then I am also free, so the plan is somewhere in there. Dave did not actually agree to either of those days but he didn't not agree either so I'm booking him in. That gives me a week to get everything sorted for it
Other things I did today was go shopping -- still unbelievably annoyed at the cost of groceries, even using coupons on basically everything I bought, but at least I have food &c for a while. As mentioned, ash is going out of town for about a week, so I made sure to get stuff to eat while he's gone. Additionally the store had honey mustard pringles! So I got a few cans of that, very excited to not have to get them at walmart
And I did basically nothing else. I opted to rest instead of messing with the minifridge or any other cleaning, but I'll try to get on that tomorrow -- hopefully my joints &c feel alright. Oh, I did take the trash out, so that's something at least.
Alright, it has gotten late so I'm going to head to bed. I've gotten ready already, all I need to do is put the computer away and lay down in the dark, so I'm not as late as I could be -- probably going to make myself later by listening to a podcast before I sleep though.
