Still pain
Still pain
'The past wasn't actually better, it's just nostalgia bias' I dunno man in the 2010s I could afford a hamburger
Obviously some things actually were worse but maybe progress isn't a straight line and there's actually nuance to what's "better" and "worse" about a given time period
There isnt a leaderboard for guys who are best at knowing how to speak French. Come on now. You can’t beat people at reading nonfiction.
I'm afraid there are actually, people will make a competition about anything
(no context we die like men)
Despite neither of us sleeping well, today ash and I went up to the river for a short walk. Getting there was a little bit of an adventure because google, it turns out, did not really know how to get us there, but we did eventually find our way and honestly the drive was pretty nice.
So was the walk! We walked sort of adjacent to a college campus, and the weather was basically perfect for being outside. We saw a deer! I have never seen a deer down here before and didn't even know they lived in the area, so that was really neat. We also each ate a blackberry off of a bush.
I took a bunch of pictures and most of them turned out really good, until my aperture got set to 'pinhole' without me noticing and they all started coming out really dark.
Tonight or tomorrow I'm going to see about getting the scanner set up, and find out what it does to my pictures when I try to scan them
Class starts in one week. The course is on canvas but isn't published yet so I don't have access to it. I have six chapters of review to go through, so I do need to hop to it on that
I've been having joints pain the past few days, not sure how long but especially in my shoulders and also just a general fatigue. Might be weather related. The fatigue I think is mostly the pain keeping me from sleeping well. I think I'm going to take a nap here in a minute and hope I'm more awake when I wake up again
Oz decided to be a butthead today, hid herself under the couch and wouldn't come out even when I tried to bribe her. When I moved the couch (slowly, so she wouldn't get hurt) she just moved along with it to stay under it, and stayed at the opposite end from where I was so I couldn't grab her. She finally left the couch to find somewhere else to hide after like five minutes of that, where I was able to grab her and take her back to my room. Not a fun time with my joints all wonky though!
Busy day! Went to see Nobody 2 at the theater with dad, Des, and Pete. Pete gave me a bit of shit for wearing a mask but everyone dropped it when I said I live with someone with asthma and someone with sleep apnea; and I made everyone stand in front of the theater so I could get a picture of them all together. The sun was behind them so it's not a great picture, but I like it
The movie was alright! I wouldn't have sought it out myself, I'm not super into action movies and this was very much that. Very viscerally violent, and also very loud.
I haven't been to that theater since before the pandemic (I've been trying to remember what the last movie I saw there but cannot for the life of me), they do assigned seating now (boo) and also the seats are plush, heated, and recline. And there's a swivel table-top to I guess put your food on
After the movie, Des gave dad and I a ride back to his house. I'd gotten him a roll of toilet paper with sudoku puzzles on it at the thrift store, and I gave that to him when we got there -- he got a kick out of it. Des left shortly after, dad and I hung out for about an hour before ash picked me up. We looked at more antique Japanese scroll artwork. He also offhandedly mentioned an injury that he's had for months and let me see, some kind of puncture wound or something on his ankle that is turning black and hasn't stopped bleeding. He says it doesn't hurt, which is extra concerning. I told him multiple times to see a doctor about it and he brushed me off, I don't know what else I can do. Obviously very worried about him
ash gave me a ride home, we stopped at the grocery store on the way where I got some cinnamon-rolls-in-a-tube that I'm going to put in the waffle maker at some point. At home I read more Obelisk Gate to him, and then we watched Sandman and then the Caelan Conrad video on AI therapy chatbots. Then ash went to bed and I went to Satisfactory with Dave.
The foundation for the skybridge is done! Next week I will set up a train station near the south leg (because it's already close to a rail line) that I can use to power the conveyor belts that I will then start setting up. We are nearing Skybridge completion!
Dave and I have been being pretty chill and quiet while Satisfactory-ing, so I experimented with leaving my door open to let Cael come and go after he'd had his dinner. ash didn't wake up to tell me to keep it down, so hopefully I didn't bother anybody. Now we're all locked up in my room again for bed, so I'm going to eat some dinner and then sleep.
Apparently zoom has added a feature to workplace and educator accounts that lets the host silently record the screens of meeting participants, which is. Great.
