Yesterday was ash's birthday! I made a little bulbasaur keychain out of beads for him. Over the weekend I experimented with techniques to get the right shapes and made a little progress on it, and planned on working on it yesterday to actually get it done but ended up hyperfocusing on it Monday night so I got it finished then and went to bed late. Then yesterday I just chilled, watched youtube, and played with ciphers. Well, a cipher.

When ash got home from work I gave him his present, then we ordered food (I got chicken pesto mac and cheese which was delicious but not really enough to be a dinner, and much too expensive given that), then watched some more Worst Cooks. We're almost done with the second season, it's still not quite grabbing me. The first season only had like twelve contestants and this season has sixteen, and I think they didn't adjust the format for the larger pool as much as they needed to, so the pacing feels a little slow. I've seen some later seasons and know it gets better, though, and I'm not hating the current season or anything.

Then I played Satisfactory with Dave! I finished putting conveyors on the south leg of the skybridge and shifted gears to getting a train station placed at the north leg. I'm aalllllmost done connecting that loop, just need to bring the rail line down a fucking cliff, so next week that'll be the first thing I do. Then I make a train that goes between the north and south legs, test it, and then get to work putting more conveyors down. Dave has also placed a marker in a place he wants a train station to go, so I need to go look at that and see what I can do there

Then I ate more food and went to bed! Today I need to prepare for class later this evening -- the professor has graded one of my homework assignments and gave me full marks despite my mixing up セ and サ again (more than full marks, actually, which I think is a mistake, the assignment is listed as worth 10 points and she gave me 20, so I expect that to be corrected in some direction or another in future), and I expect her to go over the assignment with everyone in class. I don't have enough data to be able to estimate how far we'll get into the textbook today since our last class had much of the time taken up by going over the syllabus, so I'm going to have to just charge ahead with my prestudying and hope I get there. Ideally though I will not need to rely on prestudying as much as I did in 402, I would really like to be able to actually learn the material in class

The syllabus has her expecting to take six classes to go over the entirety of chapter 12, but there are only six sections in that chapter and we've already covered two of them. I think expecting two sections per class is probably reasonable, so I'll shoot for overshooting that by a bit.

Granted we did cover the first two grammar points in chapter 12 but didn't do any of the practice exercises for them in the textbook, so probably we will do that today

Second day of class! It was rough. I am not prepared for this material and had very low energy today, but so did everyone else it seemed like. We went over んです and すぎる again, did some practice exercises for them, then went over ほうがいいです and did some practice exercises. Twice we got paired off into breakout rooms and both times I got the same people in my group, neither of whom were willing to do much of anything but sit in silence, so we just. Didn't do the practice. Which I wasn't prepared for anyway, so like, alright, but also come on.

Problem Student continues to be annoying but not obnoxious (showed up an hour late, again, and wasn't prepared when he got called on ('please read the instructions out loud for the class' 'I don't have my book out' ???? So get it??)). Also a student made a class discord, so I'm in that, but there doesn't seem to be much actual interest in the concept.

I'm going to try to really buckle down to be ready for Monday but tonight I'm going to relax.

When I invented the word for 'to cause' in teket, I made it behave differently from other verbs just because I thought it was neat, and now I've expanded that into a wholeass paradigm that I'm calling 'clausal verbs', because they exclusively take clauses as objects. Unlike transitive verbs, which take regular objects and aren't grammatical without one, clausal verbs can also appear on their own. Clausal verbs are often more abstract, like 'to think' and 'to allow'.

Example with an intransitive verb:
irisetne vhan kuu taisaln
swim.HUN-inside IMM.DEF.PAST 1SG OBJ-water
I swam in the water

With a transitive verb:
heki sul rhemin et tarhemin en
same.INAN HABIT tree this OBJ.tree that
This tree is usually the same as that tree

With clausal verbs:
ileta kuu
think.HUN 1SG
I think

tii ileran se ete irisetne vhan kuu taisaln a
? think.ANIM 2SG 3SG.HUN swim.HUN-inside IMM.DEF..PAST 1SG OBJ-water or
You think I swam in the water?

maan se
understand.ANIM 2SG
You understand

met kuu kit heki sul rhemin et tarhemin en
understand.HUN 1SG same.INAN HABIT tree this OBJ.tree that
I understand that this tree is usually the same as that tree
