I think he also tends to recommend a couple other lore channels when thanking people for research, but I haven't checked any of them out so can't vouch for quality or content, but they also might be good

@mek thank you! I'll give those a try! I meant to at work yesterday in-between cases but then I got the refrigerator scene which kinda took all my energy. I find the Elden Ring world and lore generally interesting, but so much of the content out there aimed at digging into it is, to put it bluntly, insufferable. Destiny was kinda the same way, I briefly looked into content about the lore (back when it was still vague enough to be interesting and not just, bad) but the primary way to do so was, uh, a guy who calls himself the "Lore Daddy," just to give you an idea of how unpleasant that was.

Also just a general scream into the void that the State of the Internet + Twitter is incredibly frustrating and I just want rich people to fuck off in submarines and let me talk to the gay people in my phone in peace and also the Supreme Court is actively trying to diminish my personhood, but uhhhh we stay silly or whatever I don't know

tbh though I don't have the energy to switch social media platforms or to incorporate new ones into my rotation, so I'm just going to stick with what I currently use (discord, Twitter, Instagram, here) and go about my business as long as I can. I don't have it in me to start a tumblr or post in other places 💀💀💀

Yeah, I've never gone looking into other potential sources, and resisted watching VaatiVidya's stuff for a long time, for that exact reason. I've sort of talked about this before, but I also don't like how much editorialising there is in the community, that then gets taken as fact because a big name said it. I don't have any examples because I specifically avoid it, but people just interpreting the lore in one way or another because it's left ambiguous, and then that interpretation becoming the fandom's canon for it

Hideyuki Kikuchi's Vampire Hunter D, Volume 01, adapted and illustrated by Saiko Takaki ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I'm too lazy to check but I think I gave volume one of the light novel five stars and I enjoyed this just as much

Decided to give some of the manga a spin! This one was interesting in particular to see the differences between it, Yoshitaka Amano's art, and the anime movie. Larmica is a good example, Amano illustrates her mostly in spot blacks as a menacing shape:

Whereas Takaki was like yeah she's going to have a weird silhouette and high fashion will be set to Yes:

And finally the anime movie was like well we have a set style and a limited color palette and she needs to look distinct from Doris so uhhhh:

Like it's interesting to see three pretty distinct interpretations of a character that all still have the same vibe. Anyways, tl;dr this was a good and snappy interpretation of the first book, which is a solid entry into the series and a fun adventure!

I've already read volume two but I have more thoughts on it so I'll write that review (+possibly the review for part two of vol 8 in the light novel realm) tomorrow when I'm at my desk and not thumbs-typing on my phone.

Weekend! It is occurring!

Yesterday I was very lazy and it was great; I flopped on the couch and played a bunch of Elden Ring and even ordered a pizza (cheese + anchovies, a controversial pick but one of my go-tos if the pizza is just for me because I love anchovies). I did get some chores done and went on a short run, but mostly relaxed and I definitely needed it.

This morning I took Baby Dog to the dog beach and, while doing so, discovered two things:

1) this isn't a discovery but she had a blast, as she always does! I love taking her to the dog beach and the only thing stopping me from doing it constantly is it would physically hurt her too much cuz she's an old lady
2) PEOPLE LEFT THEIR 4TH OF JULY TRASH EVERYWHERE!! I'm mad about it!! There's cardboard fireworks trash and beer cans and stuff ALL OVER the lakefront 😡😡😡

So I've decided I'm going to incorporate trash pick-up into my run, i.e. run out there with a few bags + nitrile gloves, pick stuff up, throw it away, then run back. It's maybe a bit hippie-dippie of me but I hate knowing the trash is there, and it's also in an area I'm not sure Parks & Rec will notice for their trash pickers before it washes into Lake Michigan. It's really hard for me to think of someone I like less than a person who litters; there are a lot of behaviors I consider rude/bad that I can at least understand where the person is coming from, but if you leave trash all over nature you suck and you should feel bad about it.

Anyways, lemme go do that before it gets too hot, and then I'm gonna grab a few groceries and by then I'll deffo have earned some video games. I was gonna get a haircut today but I've already decided to do that next weekend so it's a bit closer to when Sophie visits me later this month.

I have decided to do a thing!

That thing is to cut my own hair aka I finally took the soft butch plunge and ordered a pair of clippers. This is partially to cut out the expense of going to Sport Clips once or twice a month, but also for the convenience of not having to run that errand. I feel like it shouldn't be too bad??? I have a true undercut in that it's long on top but at a zero everywhere else, so I don't have to learn how to do a fade or anything. I'll have to watch some YouTubes or look up some advice on how to trim the top with scissors, though. We'll see how it goes! I already warned Sophie that when she comes to visit at the end of the month, if my hair looks goofy, then she knows why 😂

Aside from that it's my Monday equivalent, but my weekend was good and restful so I'm not too sour about it. I did my morning writing and now I think I'll tidy a bit and sneak in some Valheim before I exercise and do the rest of my routine stuff. Oh! And I need to go pick up Baby Dog's gabapentin refill, lemme set an alarm so I don't forget to do that.
