Guess who's up too late because he locked himself into watching his computer install updates for hours again

Re: Promiseland
Well! Very exciting turn of events. Computer froze near the end of whatever was taking so long to update and I had to force a shut down, but interrupting the update seems to have broken my display drivers so I've had to pull up the terminal before the login screen, where I am now attempting to re-run the updates. Hopefully that fixes the display or I'm in a lot of trouble
It's currently doing that same update that took five or six hours, you would think it would go faster since it's already done all this, but it at minimum needs to check 24,206 steps which will still take time
I'm going back to sleep

Re: Promiseland
I am a little worried that it froze because it ran out of hard drive space, but I suppose if that happens I'll just have to clear room from the command line

Re: Promiseland
Okay, homework done and uploaded and I am Not going to worry about it
So obviously I was up until around 5 AM waiting for my computer to finish updating, and then the cats woke me up at, I want to say 9-something? I think pretty close to 10. They weren't getting up to anything, Oz was just in the cat tree and then Cael also wanted in the cat tree and the resulting shuffling of cats made noise that woke me up. Cael has mostly been being a polite boy with Oz and I'm hopeful they can start getting along better
Anyway, so at 10 the update was still running and then at 11 when I got up to feed and pill the cats it was still running and then around noon it got close to being done (with that part of the update) and froze, and I had to force a shutdown at which point it would not boot as far as the login screen. Concerning! But I could access the text interface to get the update going again and I hoped that that would fix whatever had gone wrong. During all this I did some research into if anyone else running Manjaro had run into issues and found that they had released a "stable" upgrade a few days ago that will break your computer if you don't do "manual interventions" to make sure it updates correctly, which does not sound all that stable to me. A person I follow who also runs manjaro has apparently spent this morning reinstalling it because it broke enough to just, completely break, and that! Was worrying. I don't know if that had anything to do with the new release or if it was something else, though.
Anyway, let the update run while I went back to sleep and woke up close to 3, I think, and got up to marinade some chicken for ash to cook when he got home. I then sat around until he got home, waiting for my computer to update. And then hung out with him while he made dinner and waited for my computer to update. And then ate dinner and right around then it was done updating and I tried restarting it and it did not work.
So after dinner (we watched a Ted Nivison video about a Christmas movie, because 'tis the season) I went back into my room with ash's computer Just In Case I couldn't get mine working, and tried to get mine working. What turned out to be the main issue was that, something went wrong with the fontconfig file? And a couple programs were throwing 'symbol not found' errors and Apparently that was enough to just fuck up all my shit. But it is working now and I learned a few things about troubleshooting this computer
Rushed to get my homework all done and uploaded and now I am free for the evening, I think! Probably a lot of internet to catch up on since I haven't been able to use my computer all day.
Probably an early night again tonight and tomorrow I maybe can take that chapter quiz. Next week I need to get to dad's house, both to get my "christmas present" (cash) and a christmas ham, which will probably need to happen on Thursday afternoon, due to his schedule and ash's schedule. I am not looking forward to going over there in the cold but let's be real, getting out of the house a bit will be good for me and it probably won't be that cold when I'm all bundled up in a coat and scarf.
Alright, I'm going to go chill. And feed the cats, and eat some more myself, but mostly chill.
