Weekend was successful overall!

I did get all of my errands done, one of which was to, after many years, finally get a replacement for my television. My television had a line of dead pixels on it since the move and also does a weird thing with the sound sometimes where you had to hard restart it and, anyways, it was annoying but I kept "well, it works and it's fine"-ing it. So for my birthday I went and got a new one! Same size, and honestly a fairly cheap one (especially because I do not want a "smart" TV, I want the dumbest television possible), but it, you know, works correctly and doesn't have a line of dead pixels.

I'm a little grouchy this morning, so I'm gonna have another cup of coffeedrank, do my writing, and maybe work on some art or generally doot around until I have to exercise and get ready for work. Sophie comes to visit me on my next weekend, woo!

Man who on Earth asked for this Wonka prequel movie with Timothée Chalamet

Like there's plenty of movies that come out and I know I'm not the audience for it and I'm fine with that but literally who is the audience for this, I don't even know

Working Stiff: Two Years, 262 Bodies, and the Making of a Medical Examiner by Judy Melinek and T.J. Mitchell ⭐⭐⭐
Three stars

I was interested to read this for unsurprising reasons, and ended up a bit "eh!" towards it for perhaps also unsurprising reasons!

While acknowledging I'm not technically the audience for this book, as it's definitely written for people who have no experience in the field, some of the things she talked about made me roll my eyes a little bit. She also has very strong opinions on suicide, as her father committed suicide when she was young, and I don't know if her spiciness as it pertained to that was strictly necessary. (Especially because the rest of the book doesn't contain a lot of personal thoughts/opinions; it's pretty dry if you take it as a memoir, which is fine by me because I'm not the biggest fan of memoirs, but it did mean her outright saying "suicide is a goddamned selfish act" was jarring. And, uh. Mean?)

Anyways, the parts where she talks about the MEO response to 9/11 and the anthrax attacks were genuinely interesting and I would read a whole book of just that. The rest of her experiences were, I'm gonna be honest because this is a private space and I can sound insufferable if I want, but they were kinda basic 😂

Reading this did make me want to seriously consider, over time, starting to write a book about my own experiences as a death investigator, just because, like -- the problem I always have is people speaking for the field are overwhelmingly wealthy white men (for the investigation side) or wealthy white women (for the MD side). I think that's a problem with virtually every field, mind you, and I'm still a white woman, but, I dunno! I just want some different voices out there.

It would be amazing if you wrote a book like that, and I, at least, would be excited to read jt

I'm on my Friday equivalent!

It's been a pretty exhausting work week so I'll be glad to put it behind me. Plus, it's a Sophie Weekend (tm)! Tomorrow morning I go pick her up at Union Station and then I took some additional time off work, so we get to hang out until Saturday. We have some fun stuff planned, including going to see the Barbie Movie which I'm extra excited about because I genuinely haven't seen a movie in theatres since ... I think since the Lighthouse? So pre-pandemic, in 2019-ish. I'm just not a big movie-watcher, especially solo, so it's never on my list of things to go check out. Fun for a date night, though!

Okay I am doing some last minute tidying and then also cooking a food so I'll have dinner at work later, lemme get back to that and I think I'll have just a bit of time to sit and play Valheim or something before leaving to perform a capitalism.
