However! I have installed manjaro on my desktop PC and got that all set up, and my hope that the hdmi port would miraculously start working again after I'd done so did in fact bear out. So I can start working on stuff in my study1 without having to set my laptop up in here every time

Like, I understand why we as individual citizens are going about life-as-normal to whatever extent we're able, because you gotta, and what other option is there, really. But the president is at war with our country. How has that not changed anything? How are the politicians just being like, shucks I guess he gets to do that. We'll vote on it in ten months. Just gotta live with it in the meantime.
I know people are doing things but they're doing the things we do when we live in a sane country. They're voting on whether ICE gets more funding??? The militia the president is using to kill our citizens???? What the fuck is happening?????
The government and bureaucracy are slow machines, I get that. And I don't want our representatives making rash decisions that could just make things much, much worse. But like. Surely the time for debate is past. The house is on fire, someone's gotta get up and put it out.

Yesterday I continued getting the desktop set up, and did some python/evennia study, and in the evening I played Peak with Erika and Dave! We did not make it past the second zone, but that's to be expected with one player who hadn't played the game at all before and a player who had never played that zone in particular, and I think despite that we did pretty well. I would be very down to trying again some time
It was also Dave's birthday!

I finished the first episode of Umineko When They Cry and started the second -- the first episode is 143,481 words long, which is pretty substantial (and I will be completely honest with you, could absolutely be half that length without losing anything). Episode 2 is about 10,000 words shorter so I should be able to zip right through it! >_>
Today I am going to ride my bike over to dad's, so I won't have much time for anything else. It's a nice day out, though, so should be a lovely ride

I did not make it to dad's.
I did try to repair the flat myself but I'm pretty sure (?) you need to remove the tire to do it and I didn't have a tool for disconnecting the motor, so I attempted to walk it to a bike repair place. Unfortunately I did not make it all the way there, fortunately because ash picked me up off the side of the road and took me home instead. We considered swinging by the bike repair place, still, but it's not urgent to get fixed so we'll do it this weekend or something, if needed. Now that we're home I might in fact be able to do it myself, though having walked it so far on a flat tire I am worried that the tire walls are damaged and the whole thing will need to be replaced. Dunno! We'll find out.
I am trying really hard to find a way from the parkway exit(s) to dad's house while limiting time spent on major roads and I haven't yet been able to manage it. Aside from all of that, though, it was a nice ride -- I got a little lost on my way to the parkway (basically missed my exit) and so got to experience a little bit of a different trail, and while doing that I also saw a coyote! I considered stopping to get a picture of it but decided I didn't want to stop that close to it -- it was walking on the levee as I approached, and walked down the side of it as I passed by.
So yeah. Will be trying again to get to dad's next week, hopefully the weather is nice.
And for people keeping track of the pool guy situation, it is still not resolved. Per the property management company, they have been in contact with the property owners repeatedly and they insist each time either that they have paid the pool service people or that they're going to. They also say they've paid the water bill, so we'll find that out in a couple months I guess depending on whether or not we continue to have water.
I've started skimming leaves (and whatever) out of the pool but like, we don't know how to maintain the pool pump and we haven't been maintaining the pH balance or anything. At some point the pool is going to need more maintenance than we can provide and since we are technically paying for that through our rent we're not going to just pay for it again without renegotiating the lease. Of course there is the worry that if we push too hard we will be kicked out of the house. But we really can't just ignore this -- I guarantee the managers and the owners would be really upset if the pool got damaged from all this neglect, and if we don't keep nagging about it it will in fact be our fault for letting it slide.
Ugh. I would like to live in a world where people actually pay for the things they say they're going to
