After nap, Lee and I hung out in/by the pool for a while and I read to him (we are slowly and inexorably working our way to the ending of Fifth Season), then we watched Arrival and then a few youtube videos (I introduced him to Dogen, which is not something I've been able to do before now because Dogen's videos are 99% subtitled Japanese and Lee likes to look at other things while listening to youtube), and then the day was over. I ate more dinner, recorded a few Arcadia bits that needed doing, played some Missing Translation while listening to youtube, and now I'm about to go to bed.
I'm working my way toward another language kick, probably tomorrow or the day after I'll do more of my translation playthrough of Tunic. But it's also got me thinking about conlang projects. I'm thinking about combining two ideas I've had, previously -- one about a seasonal ket festival and one about visiting your girlfriend on Kuris as a second-generation emigrant. So, visiting your girlfriend during the festival (as a concept I've been referring to it as the "whalefall" but it'll need an actual logical name for it in-canon). Learn about the culture, talk to people without making an ass out of yourself, stuff like that. There's a genre of games meant to teach you Japanese in which you play as a foreigner visiting your Japanese girlfriend, I'd be poking fun at those. Might do that one in RPGmaker so you can walk around and look at stuff, but it'd be easier to do it visual-novel-style in Twine or one of those engines specifically for VNs.
But yeah, talk to her dad and use honorifics correctly to give a good impression, or don't and make an ass out of yourself. Pronounce things correctly, or don't. Stuff like that. Commit social faux pas.
I think I'd want to include some kind of greater plot that you're working your way through, but it would work well enough as just a slice of life up to and through the festival events. Good ending, spend a nice evening with your girlfriend, bad ending, you've embarrassed yourself so much she's broken up with you. Unsure.
I still need to make the clicker game, though, and the Stardew Valley mod, and the Legend of Zelda translation. I'll keep poking at it, see what happens.
