OH YEAH I need to finish Outer Worlds, too, I totally forgot that game existed until I was browsing my console backlog

Been thinking about this as I ponder my next novel project after my current one and tbh I think this has become my main thesis as a writer
I want to write pretty straightforward fantasy fiction (fantasy westerns, in my case) that feature thirtysomethings and older going on adventures. I want those stories to be appropriately grown-up, but not in ways that blandly feature "gritty realism" like sexual assault or homophobia. I feel like a lot of adult fantasy fiction is either twentysomethings in an urban fantasy romance (totally fine, just not what I'm looking for) or decides that because it isn't YA it needs to be Game of Thrones maximum edgelord and nahhhhhh man I want Howl's Moving Castle but with a bunch of middle-aged cowboys. I want all the plot energy of an anime isekai but with a fisherwoman pushing fifty whose knees make popping sounds when she sits down. I want the hundreds-year-old vampire to fall in love with a history professor who is old enough and experienced enough for them to geek out about different types of medieval ballistae together, or something. I want queer people to be growing old and still hurting and loving and existing, god damn it.

Bonus weekend day!
I don't remember if I mentioned it already but I had a personal day to burn so I have today off! I spent the first part of it resting because I am both generally tired and hormonally tired, but once I got my sea legs back I went on a run, finished an art, poked at some video games, and then realized I was a bit restless/grumpy in ways nature would probably fix. It did! I took Baby Dog on a long walk by the lake because it's a really lovely day outside. The lake itself is very choppy due to recent storms but it was actually nice because where we walked the lake would frequently break against the rocks and splash us with some nice cool water.
Anyways, it cured what ailed me. After that I got cleaned up and was going to play more video games, but my building's internet was out because Xfinity is bad and it should feel bad, and also ISPs in general are a wretched monopoly so there's not much I can do about it. I decided to make good use of the time, though, and worked on some writing notes! (I wanted to actually write but Google Docs is also bad and it should feel bad, meaning my actual writing file for some reason refused to pull up offline even though it reasonably should.) I added the notes I took from some recent research and cleaned a few worldbuilding things up that have been in my head but not made it to "paper" yet. I'm finishing that up now even though my wi-fi just came back up, and then I think I'll be ready to flop and play aforementioned video games.
All-in-all a successful bonus weekend day! Tomorrow I want to do some writing sprints and I'll probably need to run a few small errands (need to check if my next library holds are ready to pick up), but mostly should be a nice chill weekend.
Masque started poking at Elden Ring a little bit and it's wild to now be the person with almost 80 hrs in the game going "yeah, so, you have to go into multiplayer options, then you use the finger remedy -- oh so if you don't have it, it's a consumable, so you have to go buy one or you have to make one -- oh, you haven't unlocked crafting, so you have to go to that dude and buy a crafting kit -- okay now make your weird finger juice -- okay now take the finger juice and make sure we're standing in the exact same spot in our different games and you'll see -- yep okay that's me you can summon me now, but make sure you're in the spot you need me because if we're on the world map I can't enter dungeons and if we're in dungeons I can't enter the world map so like, yeah, it's a whole thing" like Fromsoft why
I caved and bought Baldur's Gate as a present for myself for getting all my writing sprints done today (dear fucking god I am only like three chapters away from finishing an entire novel what the FUCK) so it's installing!!
I wasn't going to buy it on PC bcuz I'm a console main but the Xbox port isn't expected until early 2024 and if I do not make a blorbo that gets to smooch that terrible fancy vampire man soon I will perish
RIP I can't play Baldur's Gate because my laptop literally has no room for it I tried to run it off the external and it was just too laggy and a combination of the game being so enormous and my laptop not having a large hard drive means there's not a super feasible way for me to play it. Alas! I submitted to Steam for a refund which I'll hopefully get because they can clearly see my playtime was less than four minutes. I have a bunch of other games to play so I will certainly live, although definitely an example of Xbox's commitment to complete feature parity between the X and S being a bit of a double-edged sword.
Aside from that today is my last weekend day and I've already done most of the chores I needed to do, plus ran to grab some quick groceries this morning. I'mma sit and play Final Fantasy 14, which may not be Baldur's Gate but does still have plenty of blorbos in it. I have a bit of that vague feeling that I should've spent my three day weekend differently, or more productively, but I continue to try and recognize that is brain demons speaking because I've gotten plenty done and had a fun time resting and hanging out with my friends.
