Something Disco Elysium does right (or tries to), and which all games should try to imitate, is that it's okay to fail. You are not punished for trying to do something you're bad at, and it going badly -- the player character is, sure, but the story continues, the story accepts that this is what has happened, the story often rewards you for that failure

I don't think Disco Elysium achieves the best possible means of implementing this, but it does it much better than any other game that comes to mind.

Talking with Lee I've also realised that succeeding at a skillcheck doesn't necessarily mean success -- you can successfully perceive someone's emotional state and still have them refuse to help you, or have the conversation go badly

Basically, make checks you think make an interesting story, that are true to how you're playing the character, and let the story go from there as it may

Really often I'll see a creator of some sort end up in this position:
All of their fanbase asks for something
They take five years to do the thing the fans are asking for
"I did what you asked for! Why is no one watching this video!!"

Bruh, it's because all of those fans got tired of waiting and left

So google started their process of changing the UI again a while back -- I had opted into it until one day it abruptly changed the fonts to no longer display bold, an even bigger problem on the low-contrast colour scheme than it would have been before. I switched it back and gave them feedback that I could no longer tell the difference between read and unread emails (I mean, I can if I stop and Look at them, obviously, but it's more difficult and takes more effort than it should).

Anyway, today they pushed the change so it's no longer optional. And what that means is that I'm up at 4 AM because I went digging around for how to force gmail to display with actually readable fonts. I'm not completely happy with the result and might play with it more, but I've got it bolding unread subject lines and everything is a font weight that won't give me eye strain and that's good enough for now

Now to get ready for bed

Been thinking for a while about making a program to teach teket, separate from other lesson plan plans. Might will move forward with that - I have the shape of it now, just need the content

Also thinking a little about the ket clicker but that's not ready to move forward yet

Frankly it's silly to try and figure out what Musk is thinking and what his plan is, when the simplest conclusion is just that he's rich and doesn't believe in consequences

Like "I might experience repercussions for doing this" just straight up doesn't occur to him
