Re: Promiseland
I don't want to sound like I'm being all, judging people for being sad that a store they associate with their childhoods is closing and so on. For a lot of people, Joanns was the resource they had for a hobby that brought them a lot of joy and connected them to a community. A lot of people were good friends with the employees working there, a lot of people were the employees working there, and a lot of those people worked there because they had a passion for the crafts they were helping people make. I, too, grew up in a store that existed in my neighbourhood because it systematically destroyed every other option, but I was passionate about the things inside it and good friends with a couple of the employees who worked there. I have no real love for the corporation who owned that store and if they went out of business I would shed no tears, but that's because I actively kill the 'brand loyalty' instinct inside myself. I don't look down on the people who feel like they're losing something, because they are losing something; I just want them to see the bigger picture of it, too.
