Okay, gonna watch The Two Towers! I knew a lot about The Fellowship of the Ring before going in -- like, the entire plot of it -- but I know almost nothing about The Two Towers, I think, so it will be interesting to see how well it holds my attention. If I bounce off it maybe I go read a synopsis or something?

I imagine there will be things that I know about LotR in general that turn out to be in this one and I'll be like "oh hey!", but I don't know the story beats or anything

Back to the movie, I do am enjoying how ... sincere? It is? They're doing a larger-than-life sort of thing with characters' emotions, and it comes across as corny at parts but also really works, and they don't let actors do that in movies very much anymore. There's a lot of good stuff in how they made this that you don't see much in movies anymore, despite movies spending a few years aping other parts of this series and just kind of getting it wrong. Truly this was a labor of love and it really shows, for better or for worse.

Something I'm excited about is the shift over the three films from the happy, peaceful, sappy vibe of the Shire in the beginning of Fellowship into the darkness of Return. Hell yeah earn that grit

I guess all the yelling was just because Sam thinks Gollum is super gross

This scene with the riders of Rohan surrounding Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli is big 'D&D characters talking shit' energy

Aragorn is generally kind of overhyped for me but I love his exacerbation here

These ents move surprisingly fast when they want to
