YEESH yesterday was tough
I wasn't depression-tired, thankfully, but I was extremely period-tired and my body just wanted to rest. Due to Baby Dog's recent health issues, I don't have an excess of sick days, so I toughed it out and while I'm glad I did (it ended up being a pretty slow day), I am crawling towards the weekend now. I just have today and tomorrow and then I have a long weekend (Sophie is coming down for the Stardew Valley concert), so I will survive.
Also if you want some work drama --
So to tl;dr the background, each day has a different "doctor of the day," and that assigned doctor has some additional duties in their 24-hour period. One of those duties is being on-call after hours, and we have several things we might call them for (presenting cases we're unsure about, getting permission for organ procurement for Gift of Hope, that kinda stuff). They get paid extra for this duty, and only do it once or twice a month.
I will say outright that we have something like 18 forensic pathologists and virtually all of them are completely pleasant to call, even on days when we're "needy" and have to call numerous times. We have two notorious ones; one is unfortunately the Deputy Chief ME and she's just extremely brusque and will often interrupt you, and the other is probably the worst of the lot and well-known for being blatantly rude and annoyed you've bothered her.
Yesterday's on-call was that second doc!
We only called her twice, because it was slow. The first time I called her for a Gift of Hope request and she was a little spicy but otherwise fine, and the second time my colleague called her for something called a funeral home case. It's kind of a long story to explain what those are, but they're maybe an easy two minute phone call, do require the doctor of the day's input, and are a completely regular and normal responsibility of the Medical Examiner's Office.
anyway the doc interrupted my colleague and said "This isn't an urgent matter. Only call me for urgent matters, otherwise this will have to wait for business hours" which is not!!
how!!!
that works!!!!!!
and we were so taken aback that we ended up having to call our boss, because what do we even do when the doctor says "no" but we still have this entire necessary task to complete?????? what are you even getting paid extra on-call money for if you're going to tell us to lose your number???? who the fuck do you think you are to decide what is and isn't urgent, when your very own SOP (we got petty and looked it up) says you are to be available by phone or in person for ANYTHING INVESTIGATIONS NEEDS IN YOUR ON-CALL PERIOD
GOOD LORD, WOMAN
We ended up calling her boss, politely explaining that the doctor told us to go pound sand, and presented the case to the boss-doctor so we could complete the task and go about our business. Hopefully said boss-doctor ends up doing something about it! imho if you're gonna be paid Batman money to sit at home and occasionally answer questions (and only have to be interrupted after hours in that way a maximum of twice a month), you can suck it the fuck up
