Oh no this one has so much kanji

Target again, no idea what. "[]wareta[]bouru [object] []sayo! Soshite, [] [object] []te[]sayo!"

Incidentally in the previous level I can only take Arin's/the game's word that the boss was a mad scientist because it was a spinning death polygon, but there were indeed syringes and scissors that moved around and damaged you if you touched them, so points there. So in this one maybe it's going to do something to the flippers (bouru)? Whatever's happening there are two informations the game is giving you

Arin says the target is "the army of eyeballs" and "reclaim the stolen brain ball and fight off the eyeball army"

I admittedly am a little suspicious given the "skeleton paddles" "bone flippers" thing that Arin is less translating the words on the screen and more has prior information of what the levels contain, but he's not not translating the other parts, in ways that would be difficult to just pull out of the visuals in the stages, so. Maybe "bouruno" is used for "skeleton" in something else he's familiar with, and "furippatto" is "paddle" in something else. They're not wrong per se, it's just weird to me to go there, and the object being described is a pair of skeletons holding a pair of bones to use as a table-tennis paddle (/pinball flipper), so like, if I asked someone to name the object in English there's a good chance they'd come up with "skeleton paddle" without knowing anything about the Japanese terms being used in the game. You feel me?

But like, he got "mad scientist" and as I noted the mad scientist in the game is not obviously a mad scientist, "watch out for the misleading movements of the scissors and syringes" is definitely a translation and not someone making up an english sentence, this next level does indeed include a stolen brain ball and an eyeball army, and as noted the "stolen brain ball" and "eyeball army" are in kanji (mostly) and not katakana. It's just weird and I want to pick his brain about it, but of course I'll never be able to

It also, like. He could have played part of a level to make sure the game works, decided that the things were "skeleton paddles", and so used the term without like, fully reading/translating the screen where they're introduced, and then did fully read/translate the other intros because he hadn't seen them or their levels before

Unfortunately none of the comments on the video or in the reddit are talking about Arin's Japanese skills so I may never know, and in fact can only assume that he is accurate on all the parts I can't read

It is also a little suspicious that three weeks ago they uploaded a video where Arin played a Japanese quiz game and humorously had no idea what any of the questions or answers said. I can think of reasons for the difference in skill level between that video and this, it's just also a little hm.

Anyway! It's not actually really any of my business how much Japanese Arin knows, and I'm going to remain proud of him for knowing any at all

I'm thinking about a game where the premise is that, because it's in a language the player doesn't understand, the player keeps doing things that mess things up and makes things worse. Go for a real Daniel Mullins vibe. It'd be fun to play around with really directing the player to make "incorrect" choices while also making it clear to anyone who did understand the language what the actual correct choice would be

And then the game gradually gets more and more broken as the player fucks up more and more stuff

I do will note both that the "suteeji" at the top of the second "world" stages has changed, and that Arin has translated the info for this next stage as "trap warning! Beware face gut's trap", which is both accurate as far as I'm able to read and again not something someone's likely to just come up with based on level visuals

The katakana definitely says "face gut" and unless I'm about to see an intestine with a face (possible) then I have no idea what it's going to be

This is facegut? Probably? Trying to decide if there's a different way to read "feisugatto" that makes more sense with the... fly... thing... than "face gut"

I will never know what "dogma" is because they're not going to continue playing and I'm sure not going to try to find a copy to play myself, but Arin's translation said something about hitting it with vomit, so!

ash got some red wine and didn't end up liking it, so he gave me a glass and it tastes,

bad?

Like it doesn't have a definable taste, except bad. It doesn't taste like anything, but it doesn't taste like nothing? It has a slight bitter, vinegary aftertaste, and it's... sticky. Like it makes my mouth feel dry. And beyond that I can say absolutely nothing about the flavour of this wine. It tastes like bad.

You know that tumblr post about the people who mixed, drinks or ice cream or something, in such a way as to create a perfectly neutral flavour? It's like that but worse

It's like trying to describe the smell of stale air, or water that's been sitting on the nightstand overnight. It has no defining characteristics except that it's unpleasant

And you're damn right I'm finishing the glass
