A book of Names

The best place to start would be the earliest one that had any lasting power. There were several names that I'd use on services, but none of them really had any sticking power as they were mostly just cool sounding words. I probably made 8 different Hotmail emails in the early days with various Fire out of Edgy-Adjacent coolness but forgot about all of them quickly because I could never remember what numbers came after them.

But the first name that had any real sticking power was loosely based on my real name. So this is the tale behind KrazyDavid to get this started. Primarily, at least.

The nickname was a middle-school one, and was, in the grand scheme of things, actually a pretty good one to get as far as school nicknames go. It started because of gym class. I had a very competitive tryhard approach to sports, and honestly was probably still getting the hang of keeping my temper under control in heated moments. Which certainly includes intense physical activity. I don't know if there were similar tendencies in other sports, but I remember getting feedback about Basketball. If I had the ball, I had a very intense low run, and I remember once someone still managed to get their arm under mine to try and steal the ball and that exchange ended with both of our hands colliding with his face after a particularly hard dribble. I also remember staying home one Halloween because I'd sprained my leg trying to block a shot in Soccer, so it wasn't always me doing the damage but I took Sport Seriously and sometimes hurt happened.

So, one of my classmates had an English assignment, and he wrote this pretty straightforward horror story that basically boiled down to "Teenagers trespass on spooky farm, get horribly murdered. When the teacher asked where he got his inspiration, he reportedly told them "It's Krazy David from Gym class!" There were joking accusations of blaming me for killing the fictional teens and eating their hearts and such for a while after that. I got a chance to read the story, and one of my greatest regrets from that year is that I foolishly lost my copy of it and left it on the bus after I read it, for I would treasure it to this day.

So that was the original origin of Krazy, who later ended up being my main handle through DeviantArt. Most of the characters that I have that I've also used the name of are basically self inserts that just zoom in on specific aspects and focus them a bit more, and Krazy started the trend. He'd have the hot anger, the enjoyment of exertion. Arguments less for being right and more for the adrenaline of when things are boiling over. Runs a drugstore in Snowtown, passively creepy motherfucker. I tried to sneak in as many hints as I could that he is actually just a mass of tentacles in a human-shaped trenchcoat.

He was the one that created Food, who I am just now realizing will eventually need their own entry in this list and I'm worried about that.

Eventually he got a bit of a rework after falling by the wayside and part of that was a name change, because Krazydavid is a very DeviantArt name and I wanted to be able to use something that was less Deviantart, so Kantaris (A name that comes from a villain in one of the Time Crisis games) became the new name and there was more thought of an actual look. While he still has the Action > Thought and more of a temper than some of the others on my roster, he also picked up some new areas as I attempt to port him Changelingwise. There will be a different Corporate Drone later one in the list, who is the Happy Wholesome Ideal, but Kantaris has some of the Clocked Out jaded drone in him. Some of the experience and thoughtlines of working food service or retail apply. One of my favorite quirks of what I want to do with his changling-type presence is a rule about how the Doman works: Nothing bad can happen if nobody sees it to report it.

For completeness, to save mentioning it seperately later, Kantaris was also one of my WoW characters (Did not have much actual character development in there) and also on one of the text based MUDS I used to play, where he got into a political marraige with the head of the Evil side and that was about his only real development.

There's a line in Galaxy Quest towards the end where a character is introduced as "Another 'Shoot me'" because they played a disposable extra on a tv show. Back in my Text Based RPG days online there was a game that I wanted to cheat in, so I figured I'd have a second account to get the extra daily allowance. My ohsoclever name for this second character was "Shootme" because I think my original plan was to make several over time as I finished with one and I'd get to say the line. This: A. Never happened because I never defined 'finished' and B. was poorly thought out because of the implications people would assume from the name and C. Such a brazen attempt at cheating I can't even figure out why I didn't try to hide anything.

This was the first of my "accidental main swap" moments in online games, as by the time that I'd gotten caught I'd actually spent more time building Shoot's home ingame and had more investment there, so when the admins made me choose one to play, poor Krazy (see previous post) got benched as he had less going on.

Shootles, as his nickname eventually drifted to, (Real name Rick Kaiser) is an undead. There's some Discworld logic and inspiration in how he works, with some Zombie Prom and a smattering of other related media adding to things. He eats people, will steal body parts off to make repairs when needed, and is probably on the whole the nastiest piece of work in my roster. He's got the cold anger, willing to wait and delay a grudge as long as needed. Also his sense of humor is actually on his character sheet as "Puns in grave situations" and nobody can take that achievement away from me.
He's present in Snowtown, mostly as a pain in Katters and Zebra's sides (quite literally at times). Also existed on Tumblr for a while. Has been ported to changeling in theory but mostly only has Actual Presence in the Hospital thingy. I have to be a little careful about trying to bring him into things because by design he can tick off several checkboxes that some people don't want to deal with but he's neat to do things with.

In theory he was going to get a girlfriend at some point who was also an undead of sorts, but she never really got a name or backstory aside from being a folklore ghost-type and was mostly just because I wanted to have a joke at one point about bedroom dirty talk not being a good idea when the partner involved has the Entire Deal of cutting people for commenting about her looks.

Technically at one point we did decide he was Erika's son but given how weird everything got on that family tree I don't know how much we can trust ourselves on that and honestly by now I'm too afraid to ask.
