Mapping the Kingdom
I started working with a new therapist two weeks ago.
I really like her, so far. She's a lot... a lot more experienced than previous therapists I've had, which is a huge relief. I feel like I'm being a little dramatic saying it, but I have to be honest and admit I am a little above... beginner level, in my problems and brainstuff. She's also being very aware and respectful of the fact that I've done a lot of work already, and of my own intelligence, and drive to /do/ something.
It feels like a really good fit. And I'm... excited isn't quite the right word, but glad. To be doing it. To be maybe moving toward getting better. Or, maybe "better" is wrong. More functional.
The therapeutic approach she's using is called Internal Family Systems.
I haven't done a lot of research into it yet, because I just haven't had the energy, but I plan to. What I understand so far, is that it's about acknowledging the various parts of Self, what they are trying to do, how they are trying to help you, and find ways for them all to work /together/ toward living a life that you're comfortable and happy with.
So that's what this thread is about. That work, and how I'm doing it, and how it's going.
As of right now, I'm trying to experience and think about things more than write them down. This is... a bit of a change for me. But she suggested it, and makes sense. I will probably think about that in text, too. But some things I want to write down.
Also, for a bunch of reasons that I should /also/ probably think about, I like doing this kind of work in places where other people who I love and trust, can see. Or, at least some parts of it.
