It's cold! I'm tired of it being cold! That feels like a good start to this as any; it's early February which means I am ready for the transition into springtime, and despite knowing exactly how this sort of thing works will be shocked and devastated when we get hit with at least one more painful cold snap before that happens. The space heater I keep under my desk also broke recently, and while a replacement is on the way I don't think it'll arrive until Monday. I am good at many things and am well-trained in ignoring discomforts but having cold legs???? Under my own desk????? As if I am a barbarian in the wilds???!

😤😤😤

Regardless, I shall muster onward, if only because it's almost 10:30 AM on a workday and I still need to run to the grocery store, exercise, and try to get some words in before I leave for work. One of my goals this year is to finish the first draft of House Hierophant, which I was on track to do last year but [screeching eldritch noises]. I've broken this goal into writing 1k words a week, and so far I've kept up with it! The hardest part on days like today is not spending my entire time before work spaced out, so let me get up and get some stuff done to avoid that.

Ta!

It's my Friday equivalent! I am glad for this because I am tired, and the way personnel/scheduling works out my current Thurs/Fri equivalents are a little more exhausting than my other days (we're a bit short staffed on that rotation, and the staff we do have aren't exactly the, uh, A Team). But I just have to survive today and then I can write and play bungame to my heart's content.

(bungame = Final Fantasy 14, which is a game where you go fishing and dress up your gay rabbit son so he can smooch his boyfriend, possibly it has other functionalities though)

I should've gotten some writing done at work last night, because it was very slow the last half of the shift, but instead I watched a playthrough of Superliminal (tagging @mek to check that one out if he hasn't already) and refreshed feeds a bunch of times. I don't love it when I do that, but I can't always win the battle of me vs. disassociating brain. Ah well!

Speaking of Superliminal, I just watched Sophie play through all of it and it was delightful! A nice and tidy little puzzle game with really great visuals, and the only puzzle we had to look up was --

I'm not sure of the specific level but it's when you're in the red light/spooky visuals, and there's a giant pit between you and the only exit door. If you fall down the pit, it starts you at the beginning of the room in a loop. We couldn't figure it out and it turns out, you just have to jump into a specific spot into the pit and angle your camera so that the red paint causes the wooden beams to be silhouetted and semi-visible. That's the only puzzle I thought was a little too much trial-and-error, since I'm unsure how you would notice the platform without just jumping into the pit a bunch of times. Possibly there was a clue we didn't notice, though.

I meant to get more things done today but mostly I've been chilling long distance with Sophie, which has been nice! I'm in a mind to take it a little easy on myself, for unknowable reasons, but I suppose the reason doesn't always have to be knowable. Sometimes you are tired, and want to rest, and that's okay.

I got the apartment tidied this morning (still need to start a load of laundry at some point, though) and today I do have some errands to run:

Haircut
Wash car/air in tires
Grab a few groceries to prep for Hell Week*
Possible optional errand into Best Buy if I have enough errand spell slots, which is iffy because I have a pretty low threshold before "doo doo doo running errands getting stuff done 🎵" turns into "I am so overstimulated that I have become a sailor lost at sea, yearning and thinking of only home" so, we'll see

+need to exercise before I do all that
++need to get some writing done

So! Gonna sit and drink my coffeedrank and doot around in bungame, and then I'll have to get up and try to knock out as much of that as I can before I crash and crawl back home to hide.

*Hell Week is my upcoming work week; every three months we rotate what days we have as our weekend, and every third change is a shitty one because [long boring explanation of scheduling that results in] you having to work ten days in a row. I have it broken up into six days, a day off, three days, and then three days off (during which Sophie will visit!) so it's certainly survivable, but is going to be kinda gross.

Also I was looking up some stuff about the game and I see it billed as a "horror puzzle game" a lot and, lads! It is not! I am not someone who is ever eager to gatekeep or set rules about genre, and I won't do so now, but I am a little tired of video games, specifically, being described as "horror" when what someone means is "there are moments of tension" or "thriller." Y'all!

Productivity complete!

Laundry is done (although not put away yet, but I'll deal with that later), a food is cooking for me to eat, and I completed all except the optional errand. However! I did not do the optional errand because I instead decided to spontaneously reallocate that time/energy to setting up the new dog crate and moving some furniture around to both make room for it and to give Sophie's side of the bed an end table for when she visits. She has not requested an end table, but it feels like a thing one should provide. Gotta have somewhere to set your phone, etc. Anyway, I'm happy with the rearrangement, and glad I got my chores/errands pretty much done, but I am definitely ready to sit and relax for a bit.

So I will do that! I'm gonna eat my food and watch some YouTube, then probably spend the rest of the day alternating between writing and video games. Tomorrow starts Hell Week, but, well, that's a tomorrow Erika problem.
