Have officially closed previous bank account

There's a Mardi Gras parade happening this weekend and I want to go check it out, so the current plan is to do that Saturday afternoon. So plan is also to rotate sleep schedule slightly backwards so I can do that

Cat peed on a blanket this morning, so that needs to get washed

Today ash and I watched more Um Actually and probably got each other sick again. Today has otherwise been uneventful, aside from Erika getting the present I ordered for her ~a week ago (copy of Elden Ring), which is exciting but coincides with life things Erika is doing, so I'm being patient waiting for her to have time to play it/talk about what she thinks, but I'm also vibrating in my seat about it.

Going to go chill with my cat for a while!

We are not allowed to get each other sick anymore.

So today Oz woke me up at 9:30, which was an hour earlier than I wanted to be awake. So I tried to ignore her for an hour and ultimately kind of sort of maybe succeeded? Either way at 10:30 I was up to get ready to head out

My plan was to swing by the donut place before I headed back up to the train, and I did indeed do that, and I sat in a parking lot and ate a maple bar and it was very good. I need to get over there more often, the prices are super good and it would be nice to have a donut every so often for breakfast.

I also got a bag of donut holes that I'm going to eat later, so those are waiting for me

Anyway, after that I headed light-rail-wards, and on the way passed by a crowd of inmates doing cleanup duty at the station. I then brainfarted and got on the wrong train for six or seven stops, then got off and onto the right train.

There has been construction happening at the stations every weekend, so some stops every week are closed and being serviced instead by a shuttle. So I then got off the train, to get onto a bus, to get back onto the train. The bus was naturally extremely crowded, being as it had an entire train's worth of passengers, plus all the people who got onto the shuttle from stops between the on- and off-point.

One of the people on the bus looked a lot like a guy I used to know, and I spent the entire ride trying to decide if it was him or not. I don't think it was (but maybe).

But from bus to train again, and then from train to downtown, where I not only missed the parade but people were packing away all the festivities by the time I got there. I was not particularly heartbroken to discover this, it was a little expected.

So I walked roughly the parade route to the other end of it, and at a certain point there were definite signs of some kind of event, which is to say the area was full of kids and people hawking souvenirs. I passed through that toward where a ... party? Ish? Something, was supposed to be happening concurrent with/post parade. Downtown has gotten really walkable and I am really happy about it

Pretty soon I heard music and found a fenced-in something under an overpass, and a little investigation revealed it as the thing I was looking for, so I got my wrist-band and then got metal detectored, which was a little risky because I happened to have a knife with me. Luckily when I told the guy "Oh, those are my keys" he didn't investigate further, and I was let inside

He also didn't check my bag or anything

So this was a stage with some very loud, very boomy music being played to warm things up before the actual music started, and a bunch of food trucks and souvenir stalls. I wandered around a little, looking and the stuff for sale before swinging back to a food stall to get something to eat. I wasn't hungry, particularly, but there were some lousiana-themed options that I was interested in Experiencing. Namely one of the stalls had alligator (and frog's legs), so I got that. Alligator, I mean. Deep fried alligator.

Very expensive, predictably. I did like it, though

I wandered around the stalls looking for things I might like or might like to give as a gift, but ultimately got turned off by the prices. At one point the band stopped setting up and stopped playing pre-recorded music and started playing live music, and I hung out and listened for a while. There was a person in full Captain Jack Sparrow costume walking around with someone in a costume that I recognise but can't name. At this point I needed to pee, but didn't want to do it in a porta-potty, and I wanted to start heading home before it got cold, so I decided to slip out. First I grabbed a fairy crown for ash (and, I mean, paid for it, of course), and then I left

Outside the area was another live music thing and more people just hanging out, and then beyond that was Awful Traffic, because that area has just, a terrible layout for cars even when it's not hosting events. Luckily I did not drive there.

On my way to the station, I found a bug (like, insect, not spy) on my phone which looked like but I am not positive was a tick. I clumsily flicked it off and when I got home I checked myself over for any others and I didn't find anything, so hopefully I didn't carry any home with me.

And then it was the earlier in reverse: train, bus bridge, train again, home. ash and I hung out, ate dinner, watched TV, played phone games, ate ice cream. He went to bed, I went to my room. I am of course tired, and am going to chill until sleep

Speaking (not really) about soulsbornering lore

I had an idea a while back that I've been tumbling around in my brain, about doing a Dark Souls lore podcast that's geared toward people who are interested in the story/world of Dark Souls but not the gameplay, and specifically lore as it's found in the games and not as interpreted by other fans. Obviously this will result in lore-as-interpreted-by-me, but I'd be trying as much as I can to be pulling from primary sources

I don't know how feasible it actually is, but I've started up a copy of Dark Souls 1 with cheats enabled so I can just run around gathering data, which I'm copying into a Big Ol' Honkin' document. We'll see where I end up going with this, but I think 'dark souls for people who want to be fans but don't care about the game part of it' is an untapped niche

Thinking about the puppetry in Dinosaurs again

The full-body characters are portrayed by a person in a costume, who can't see
At least one person manipulating the facial expressions and mouth movements
And a person doing the voice acting

That's crazy, and the craziest part is that Dinosaurs isn't even all that remarkable, except insofar as the thing is inherently remarkable. That's just how puppetry usually works, you have multiple people jaegering one character -- and it's wild that people can do that as well as they do! Just, work together to play one character and be so in sync when you do it that no one can tell it's not one person
