Very disappointed that all current means of playing Die Anstalt/Parapluesch/The stuffed animal psychiatry game are broken. Apparently there was an update to the app ~a month ago, but it remains in a semi-unplayable state, and the copy on the internet archive and on the flash game archive are nonfunctional, and same with the copy on a random HTML5 site I found. It's not even that I care super much about that specific game, though it's very fun and I miss being able to play it -- it's that it's just so disheartening the condition the Old Internet has been left in after adobe killed flash.

Weird day. Didn't get enough sleep (cat) but stayed up long enough to take a shower, then went back to sleep about one in the afternoon? Apparently? Though before all of that I spent some time trying to figure out what was going on with that order I mentioned.

After I woke up I took a cold bath because it was very warm inside by then, and setting that up took forever and un-setting-it-up afterwards was a lot of work, so I ended up hot and sweaty again anyway. But not as hot, so.

Read to Lee while he made dinner, then during dinner went out and replaced a bunch of sprinkler nozzles, hopefully that is all set now. I'll find out on Saturday when the sprinklers go off again. Then we watched some of the Jordan Peterson Some More News video, and then Lee had me go play the current iteration of the game he's been working on (it's good, and very much Its Own Thing. A lot of people aren't going to get it, the ones who do will love it). So I spent the rest of the evening working my way through as much of that as I was able, which I believe is all of it.

And also tried to find a way to play parapluesch, or to find out if there's been any news about it at all. I'm going to need to get someone with a facebook account to look at the page for it for me

Lee got me a little golden apple and I need to figure out where I'm going to put it. With the Eris statue is unfortunately not a viable option since it's liable to fall and break if I try to leave it out there. Or potentially get stolen by a bird. I need to set up better display areas anyway, though, currently my room is just made of clutter

Oh shit my wordle streak

Whew, streaks maintained by tricking my computer into thinking I was in Alaska

Anyway, as I was going to say before I interrupted myself, I should go to bed on time tonight. So I'm going to finish eating and then do that.

Alas, I can't afford the preorder for the books I want after all, money is just a little tighter this month than usual. I will be very, very glad to have Oz's vet bills paid off, which should finally happen innnn about four months? Assuming she doesn't rack up any more in the meantime and assuming none of them hit an interest spike which I'm almost positive I've been paying them off fast enough to avoid.

Anyway, I should be able to buy the books after the preorder dates anyway, I just won't get the PDF copies along with them, which is a bummer. But there is no fun money this month

Despite a pool guy showing up unexpectedly and interrupting my plans, I have been productive this morning/afternoon. Got some light exercise in, have done some chores, paid bills and such.

Last month I got this little pomodoro game and I'm only just now getting around to messing with it. I don't think it's going to be super helpful for me or anything -- I don't actually think the pomodoro method quite works for me, but I'm giving it an honest shot -- but it's cute. Stardew Valley turned productivity app, plant vegetables and wait for them to grow while you go do something away from the computer, come back and sell them on your break so you can buy more seeds.

I think that's enough for today, though -- I have physical therapy in an hour and a half, so I should rest before I need to head out.

I mislaid my sunglasses somewhere and have no idea where they could be, but also didn't have time to look anywhere but the obvious places before I had to be out the door

Gonna be upset if I can't find them, the store I got them from doesn't exist anymore

I'm watching the Sandman adaptation and it's really making me want to reread the comics, but I've been avoiding doing so because I don't want it to be fresh in my mind when I'm watching it.

Most of the changes that I've picked up on haven't bothered me any more than a 'well, I mean' 'ehh' sort of way. A lot of them I get, and I'm sure there are a bunch that I'm not even noticing because I both don't remember the details of the comic super-duper well and because they haven't negatively impacted the story-as-I-remember-it. There are a few omissions that were definitely for time which I'm a little bummed aren't in there. The insistence on making Dream's escape intentional is driving me nuts, that just feels like it misses the point of the whole thing, and the change to the punishment Dream gives Alex also bothers me -- Dream is petty and vindictive and spiteful and can do so, so, so much worse to you than making you sleep forever. It's such a missed opportunity to drive home how powerful Dream is -- part of the point of the first issues is that humanity underestimates Dream because, I mean, he's just dreams. He doesn't have control over anything real. But it turns out that sleep and dreams are very important to humanity, that they have enormous effects on us and our reality, and to water down "eternal waking" into "eternal sleep" is just, meh.

Also I get the reason why they changed how the exposition happens but missing out on Dream's 'you are lucky you fucked up and captured me' stuff is also a bummer.

I'd been, a little leery about this getting adapted into live-action. Making it 'realistic' just doesn't feel like it fits the aesthetic of the comic, and I'm still reserving judgement on it because while I haven't had any issue with the first episode, that is an arc that takes place almost entirely in the waking world with human people. I don't even think I'd want any more to see it animated -- I think 'comic' is the right medium for it, even if it has definitely shown its age in parts. And, yeah, I get why, but it still doesn't sit entirely right to have Dream have human eyes. Or, even, to be played by a human with normal human proportions. I'll get over it, but it's missing something to be able to forget Dream isn't human, to not have his uncanny inhuman-ness shoved in your face at all times.

When I'm done watching the series, I do am going to dig into wikis for the comic and read about the stuff that I missed out on by not reading the comic when it first came out, and not being in touch with DC comics lore at the time. I picked up on the obvious stuff, of course, but there's a lot that I didn't even realise I was missing something, and I think those might have been parts that ended up kind of underwhelming -- because I didn't have the context I needed for them to have the right impact.

I never actually realised how formative Sandman was to my writing
