I do hope when I move on to the next class that my classmates are more people who have an actual interest in, uh, paying attention and participating and learning the language because I do feel bad almost always being the first (sometimes only) person to answer the questions in class, but when I don't people really often just don't answer at all.

It's gloomy and rainy again and supposed to be like that into next week. ash and I have plans to take advantage of a 'free museums day' this weekend but with this weather there's a solid chance we won't be able to.

The weather also has me being a little lazy again -- been doing a fair amount of video games, youtube, general zoning out. I got that new Japanese-learning-photography game and have been messing with that, including dropping some suggestions in the steam discussions page, which I never do (steam forums are some of the worst places on the internet) -- to the point of my parenthetical there's someone going into every thread asking for the game to be translated into a different language with 'no we don't need that, we just need it translated into French' and I sincerely hope the game is translated into every possible language except French just to spite this sad little man

But yeah I've been playing that and making an anki deck to go with it. Also a bit of Hollow Knight still -- I've made it into new-to-me-areas which is neat, but I haven't been in the mood to play for more than a few minutes at a time.

ash and I watched Pirates of Penzance today, due to it being Leap Yeap Leap Day! We watched my preferred version, which is the 1980 production filmed in Central Park, because we'd previously watched the movie version and I'd been meaning to watch this one with him for a long while. It's lower quality, obviously, but I feel it has better energy and directing than the movie, the choreography is more fun, and of course the singing and everything is great. I also blasphemously don't actually care for Angela Lansbury's musical performances very much? And she's not in the Central Park production, though Patricia Routledge isn't particularly notable in it, herself. Still, you've got Kevin Kline, Rex Smith, and Linda Ronstadt all giving great performances.

Of course that means we didn't watch Dungeon Meshi today, but that just means we can watch it tomorrow.

It's getting late and I'm pretty hungry so I'm going to disappear to go make some kind of food happen before I have to go to bed

Alright I'm getting tired of this whole fairy vs walrus discourse

(this is probably an incomprehensible sentence to people who don't tumblr)

I've picked out a premade to start with that I'm pretty excited about getting, but I'm going to sit on it for a bit and see if it doesn't go on sale soon. But it's decently priced even if it doesn't, I just have to wait until my budget can handle it

And then the plan is to try to set aside a regular budget for it and start collecting random bits on sale

I really enjoy building computers, but it's so expensive and so easy to fuck a part up and end up out $700 for a graphics card or whatever. Putting keyboards together could maybe be a lower stakes way to do something similar. The problem has always been what to do with them once they're built, because I don't exactly need fifty keyboards hanging around, but possibly I could sell them? Or give them to friends as really nice presents. I dunno, that's for future me to worry about. Present me just needs to worry about the funds

If you end up getting into this, I will 100% pay for parts etc if you’ll make me a pretty ergonomic keyboard

.how quick bright things come to confusion.

This keyboard is the one I'm after, the fully assembled option. I'm going for a retro aesthetic as my first project and I'm a big fan of this one's base/case and it has the kind of switches I want. First steps will be doing some simple, cheap mods to make it sound nicer and then I'll look into replacing the switches and keycaps with nicer ones in future

This doesn't bode particularly well for it going on sale any time soon, but like I said ~$80 is a decent price for what it is.

It's another rainy weekend, but I expect that rains will start getting sparse after this one clears up. But ash and I decided we wouldn't museums this weekend after all, because we don't want to be out in the rain and the weather is making my everything hurt. Instead tomorrow we'll play Xenolanguage, if we both have brain and energy for it -- this is a board game ash kickstarted three years ago and finally got delivered last week. It looks interesting, it's inspired by stories like Arrival (see previous summary of that one, because it, Story of Your Life, and the author Ted Chiang have all come up a few times in my life recently, which is curious) and revolves around, functionally, writing flash-fiction with the other players to intuit the meanings behind alien glyphs and try to figure out what the message the aliens left for humanity is

Another low-energy day -- did a very short Arcadia recording (and knocked out an intro/outro after we were done, while I still had everything set up), then just hung out and watched videos until ash was ready to social. Then we watched a Let's Game It Out, three Taskmaster-related videos, a Game Grumps, a Very Important People and a VIP behind-the-scenes, and two Your Grammar Suckses. We also ate soup during all that

So, yeah, not a lot done today, by me at least. I need to do the chore list tonight but aside from that I'm going to continue doing not a lot. I did get the deets on what ash is looking for in a custom keyboard and I'm slowly going to start digging up parts to suggest for it

Look at it this way: it's not February anymore. Doesn't that make you feel better?
