I'm watching Shogun and the pilot sounds so much like the wall standing guy in voice and cadence

Watched an episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman on a whim and apparently I had no idea what this show was about and just, made up an entirely different show in my head? Disappointed, because that made-up show is the one I actually wanted to watch, but as far as I can tell it is just made up and not a real show that I confused with Dr. Quinn

I am incredibly curious what show you thought it was because I looked it up and was surprised to find it's a Western

I thought it was a woman doctor living with (near?) a native american (? african? aboriginal?) tribe and helping them with stuff and then there were white characters who would seek her out for help with things because she was a woman but she was That Damn Good at being a doctor. I especially had the impression of her being curmudgeonly and asocial and wanting just be left alone to do her work -- not a mother with three kids (adopted or no) trying to ingratiate herself to a small-town society. Like House if he were a woman in the wild west
I have such a clear image of what she looked like so maybe it is a real show (or movie?) that I just thought was Dr Quinn, but I haven't been able to find anything like what I was imagining from searching the internet

God the college is so predatory sometimes. As soon as you sign up for classes you start getting 'Remember to pay for your classes or you might be dropped!!' emails, nevermind that I've signed up months in advance and don't need to pay for the classes until a week after they've actually started and nevermind that if you do pay early and end up getting a grant or scholarship that the refund process is a bureaucratic nightmare. They need the money!! Pay it now or you may be in some unspecified danger of losing your chance at higher education!!
Anyway today I also got a fucking phone call from them reminding me to pay for my classes cough cough by august 9th cough cough or I'll be dropped from them
Sigh

Re: Promiseland
So while it's been cooling off outside, at night, I can't for the life of me get it to actually cool off in my room. No matter how I set up the fans it just, stays 80 all night, which is annoying. Right now it is 73 outside and yet 81 in my room
It is no surprise that the heat has me staying up later, to take advantage of the coolth, and sleeping through much of the day, to avoid the heat. Last night I was up until 8 AM and then woke up at, like, three or something. I also read 136 pages of Don't Sleep, There Are Snakes, by Daniel Everett, a missionary-turned-linguist. It's about some of his experiences with the Pirahã, a small community in the Amazon who speak what is currently regarded as a unique language with no living relatives, and which, per Everett's analysis, has several unique features that challenge certain assumptions we have made about how languages, as a whole, work. It's interesting, and I can tell that he's trying to avoid writing from a eurocentric viewpoint, but at the same time he does some distasteful gawking at the Other's ""barbarism"". Anyway, if I continue at that pace I'll finish it in a couple days
As for today I did a small amount of language study, trying to ease back into it -- it's always rough returning to it after a break because I have to re-catch up on all the things I've forgotten, and all my tools don't really take that situation into account so I kind of just, get thrown back in where I left off. When ash got home we hung out for a bit and then got in the pool for, I don't know, twenty minutes? Something like that. It was nice, and we talked about Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and when we got out we ate dinner and watched an episode of it. Then a Make Some Noise and then for once I went to bed before he did -- he hung out in the living room for a while longer but I went off to play Stardew with Dave
It is spring again on Legitimate Farm and Dave is doing a truly unconscionable amount of farming whereas I have set up some sprinklers and planted some flowers and built some bee houses. We are working toward a couple of upgrades but I have sabotaged that by building more bee houses, and I still need a couple more. Thankfully getting wood is not all that hard in the game
We cut off a little earlier than we usually do so he could go hang out with a different friend, and now I'm gonna play a little more video games before bed. There is a recording tomorrow so I cannot sleep all day, and I need to set up a little early so I can try to get everything working. After that, Sor and I will do our Dungeon Meshi date! This will be the finale, and then probably we will watch the second season of Our Flag Means Death. I have heard... not great things, but I'm curious to find out why, if nothing else
Anyway, yeah. Going to go do the things
