People are like 'you should change which bank you get your direct deposit through asap' and like even if I did have another bank to deposit into, you can't just change that on a whim, it was already too late to change where my direct deposit goes a month ago

No updates since 8 o'clock yesterday. I really don't want to have to switch banks (/credit unions) again but jesus this is not being handled well. Word is still no direct deposits (and even if it did go through we don't have access to our accounts anyway, so) so I'm calling social security to see what can be done about all of this. Worried because the automated message in the phone tree says I need my current bank information to be able to change anything and I don't, have that, because I can't access my account! So!
"On hold" now in that I'm waiting for a callback, hate all of this.

A lot of confusing and conflicting information coming from people allegedly speaking with bank employees -- direct deposits Will Not go through, direct deposits Were Not going through but will go through now, direct deposits are being handled manually while the system is down (especially suspicious of this last one) -- the bank is making official statements daily so probably won't hear anything from them until tomorrow I guess? Hopefully good news at that point. A lot of people have a lot of very strong opinions about how long they think it'll take for things to be back up and running
I get not wanting to cause panic by releasing false information prematurely, and I absolutely get putting more focus and manhours on fixing the problem than talking to customers, but it is 2024 and if people don't get their information from the source they are going to get it from someone else or make it up whole-cloth out of assumptions and preconceptions, and all of the latter are extremely easy to come by on the internet. Even caution aside the communication on all of this has been severely lacking. I don't know what I'll do about all this after the smoke clears
