I took a picture before it got shipped off, though I didn't get one with it plugged in/lit up

Stats:
-Drop CSTM65, chosen because the face plates for it come in orange. 65% (no F-row or numpad, but does have arrow keys) so it'll be decently portable without having to memorise a bunch of macros to be able to use it -- I assumed you'd really want access to the arrow keys
-Orange CSTM65 face plate, rainbow base weight
-TTC Bluish White V2 switches -- I couldn't ask your opinion on switches since it was originally supposed to be a complete surprise, so I went with a safe tactile over a linear or clicky, in a medium weight, and then I also went with silent so it could be used in a work environment if you want to. These had the best reviews with those stipulations -- if you'd rather something different, bring it when you visit and we can swap 'em out!
-Originally Matcha Mango keycaps which I knew wouldn't be right but wanted to try 'em just in case. They were in fact not the right colours, so I found the right ones on customkeycaps.co.uk -- the only seller I could find with the correct green, and any orange at all. Mixed and matched those, and threw on some of the Matcha Mangos where the customkeycaps.co.uk sets didn't have a good fit (I personally hate the grittiness of them, but I'm glad you like the texture!)
-Lastly an artisan pumpkin keycap from an etsy seller -- I wanted an orange pumpkin, but it wasn't to be.

I'm glad it got there safely and that you're enjoying it!

Stayed up slightly too late reading (Graceling, which expires in like five days, so I want to read it quick, and also it hooked me pretty nicely so I want to keep reading it quick).

Today has Too Many Things and I am sad for it. But the very last thing is my sweetie Tuesday showing up from out of town --we are doing different of The Big Geeky Thing That Happens MLK Weekend In Boston but we'll get a little time around the edges to see each other.

The Too Many Things actually worked out pretty well. All the things felt smooth and functional. I was very tired when I got home (15 hours after leaving the house) but it felt successful and good.

I earned a die each of the four workdays this week, and will probably do enough daily tasks to earn one today, just by dint of getting out to the scifi con and scoring a lot of like social points. Glad that today's classload isn't too severe, although it's probably going to be a lot of direct talking to kids again. I should try and make sure I prep for Tuesday's lesson, although that's gonna be Weird Times because next week is full of testing and funny schedule for the end of the year. Hm.

Tired. Got real prickly and sad yesterday, watched some Gravity Falls with Austin and mostly got over it. Then we stayed up way too late talking, which was nice (it is good to date people I like talking to late into the night) but also bad (I am going to work on about 4.5 hours of sleep).

I can explain a system! I can explain a system real good!

I have a "daily tasks" checklist, and I need to achieve 15 points on it to earn a die for the day. Dice are bought in advance because every four months or so I go into a goblin fugue state and then a week later a box arrives from one of the several places I purchase clickclacks from and I stash them back into the "I do not have these dice yet" pile. Earned dice come out of an old advent calendar that I've reused for several years, refilled by various friends from aforementioned pile. This gives me the best possible balance between "I like these dice" (because I did buy them on purpose) and "an exciting mystery!" (because I don't know which sets the friend picked for the calendar.

The checklist is a google sheet and it's not strictly a checklist these days so much as a category list. So like, one of the boxen is "hygiene" and I can get points in that box for showering, brushing my hair, etc. "house chores" gives me points if I do dishes, make dinner for my roommates, clean the bathroom...and I can get more than one point in the same box per day.

15 is a pretty achievable goal for most days, and having the categories be just a little vague means I have both flexibility as to what counts, and an extra chance t actually sit down at the end of the day and identify "what did I do today" which probably helps with mindfulness or whatever. I've not run particularly good data on it, but I first implemented the dice-rewards part of it at the start of 2022, and I've gone through about four boxen a year? So like 120 days a year in which I actually do 15 tasks worth of accomplishment and log it?

It's good for my brain and also pretty colours. I'll try and take some screencaps later.

Since last posting I got gross-sick with food poisoning, skipped a day of school, went to see Dropout improv, and am now attempting to be back into the thick of things, while the world collapses.

So mixed bag!

It's very early. I am up early so I can hopefully get my grading done before it's due, because I sure as fuck haven't done it any other time.

Like everyone, I'm falling apart. I can tell I'm a shitty teacher right now, and I really don't like it. It should not be the students' jobs to hold me together (and I think I'm mostly not asking that of them, but also, I am having close to zero patience for them having nonsense, and it's not fun being the yelly teacher when I run out of patience. Not sure where to get more patience.)

I keep looking at social media which is, of course, a problem. But I also keep going to school and (mostly) loving my students and trying to encourage them to be kind to each other, and I don't hate those parts.
