Just watched someone play a VR game where you're a person in a wheelchair and it wasn't implemented fantastically, but what a great idea for getting past the movement issues VR games are known for!

The way Cael eats something is he bites in its general direction and hopes it ends up in his mouth

So Sandman season 2 is coming out next month and I was reading some comments people had left on that news, which included this amazing take:

I watched season 1 and I regret it. Dream is insufferable. Constantly whinging and, for as old as he is, keeps falling for the dumbest of tricks. He's almost doing the batman gravely voice. My head cannon has turned the guy with the teeth for eyes as the hero of the story.

Neverminding the first half -- Dream is kind of insufferable, whiny, and falls for very dumb tricks (these are important elements to his character arc over the series) -- if the show isn't for you it isn't for you. But to hate the protagonist so much you decided the serial killer who eats people's eyes is the hero-

Men truly are something else

The Corinthian (the "guy with teeth for eyes"):
-Is literally a nightmare created by Dream
-Kills people
-Eats their eyes
-Tries to destroy the world (in the show, in the comics he's pretty content to just run around killing people and eating their eyes)
-Is reduced back into his original components with very little fanfare because he is (importantly! This is the message of his character!) a petty, spiteful, and ultimately insignificant thing

A suitable hero I guess!

I did decide that I'm going to watch the second season despite everything going on with Gaiman. I won't be supporting anything else he's involved with (unless and until credible information comes out to refute the accusations against him) but I don't think the people working on an adaptation that started before the accusations became public deserve to be punished for Gaiman's behaviour. And this season is going to be the ending, so I won't have to worry about continuing to support any further seasons (or about the series just ending without a conclusion)

PlateUp! yesterday with Erika and Dave! We continued our pub, but all of my settings had been reset to defaults for some reason, so we lost pretty quickly. We decided to franchise it and continue in a new restaurant, which went pretty well and was very fun. We went for about three hours before Erika headed off to bed. Our restaurant serves three kinds of in-house brewed beer, miso soup, pumpkin pie, and ice cream. After that, I hung out with ash for a bit, and then I did some solo PlateUp-ing, which I also continued today. I have a fish restaurant that has gone through two franchises -- I might franchise again soon, I'm not sure, I do like this layout I've got going but of course the customers are starting to get overwhelming.

I am starting to get back into Japanese study but only a little -- just kind of poking at jpdb and maybe doing pimsleur lessons. I poked at playing Pupperazzi in Japanese, earlier, because I think it would be a good game for it, but didn't get very far into it before I switched to youtube and plateup.

I've also been playing a lot of Shadows of Doubt lately, including actually solving a stolen item case for once! These are notorious in the community because doing them properly requires incredibly lucky timing, so I know a lot of people just never pick them up, or if they do they cancel them as soon as it becomes clear that there's no evidence at the crime scene anymore. However! When I discovered all the evidence had disappeared from the crime scene (security camera footage and fingerprints both only last a couple of in-game days at most, so despite actually breaking in to the victim's home to try to get the fingerprints because the victim couldn't be bothered to give me access to the crime scene before they went to work, there wasn't anything there for me to find) I instead copied down the victim's entire address book -- 20 people -- and searched every single home and workplace of every single person on that list (thefts are pretty much always someone the victim knows), and when I got to the very last god damn person on that list I found the stolen item just sitting out on their kitchen counter. It took literal out-of-game days to do that but I got it done and returned the item to the victim! I also terrorised 19 innocent people and their families but that's fine, probably.

We were going to work on cleaning my room again this weekend, but I'm still kind of recovering from Monday and expect to take the weekend easy, and I think ash has similar plans. A movie and video games, perhaps.

I have been staying up too late again and should stop that -- I'm going to miss out on all this nice weather we're having before summer sets in. Next week looks pretty unpleasant, I see a 99 on Friday and it's not much of an outlier.

So with that in mind I'm going to finish eating dinner and then get ready for bed.

The kanji of the day is 事

Derived from 史, originally a pictogram of a hand holding a flag, a pen, or a weapon, a cross bar was added to distinguish 事 from this glyph. 吏 developed along the same path, and the three kanji now have similar meanings. 史 has meanings of recordkeeping and history; 吏 has a historical use as referring to a low-ranking official, but in modern use seems primarily to occur in terms using multiple kanji; and 事 means "matter", "task", and more generally "thing".

The kanji of the day is 生

Originally a glyph depicting a plant sprouting from the ground, this kanji carries meanings of life, birth, raw, pure, unrefined. It is used often in terms like 学生 (student; where 学 has meanings of 'knowledge' and 'study'), 生卵 (raw egg), or 誕生日 (birthday)

I have planned out an adventure for tomorrow!

First, I need to renew my library card. It expired a couple days ago, and the website says you can renew it by calling an automated number, but when I tried it said my card number was invalid, so. I'm going to the library! To ask them to please renew my card.

Second, I just bought a new instant camera! The reason for this is that I have a penpal and we're about to switch from online to snailmail correspondence, and I think it would be fun to be able to include some pictures with my letters. So I researched instant film, found the cheapest option, and then bought a cheap camera on ebay that takes that film. It turns out to be fully manual, so it'll take some practice to be able to take good shots with it, and I have already run out of the film that I bought to use with it (because I only ordered one cartridge, to make sure that what I was ordering would actually work with the camera). Anyway, so I'm out of film, so I'm going to stop at an OfficeMax and pick up some more, and that's stop 2. There is actually a non-chain camera supply store nearish me, but not near where I'm going tomorrow, so in future I'll try to resupply there, if they carry the kind of film I need.

Third, I learned yesterday that there is a revolving sushi bar here! I looked up their menu and the prices are extremely reasonable, and they don't appear to be too busy on weekdays, so I'm going to go try them out. Allegedly they have robots that bring your drink to you. So I'm going to go there for lunch while I'm out.

And then after all that I'll make my way home, likely by bussing south to the train line and then train the rest of the way. Hopefully it all goes smoothly!
